My husband and I have a special term for the clothes we wear in the house: “lazy clothes.” We aren’t so particular about needing to change immediately after getting home from somewhere. It’s more a signal of we’re finished being productive outside the house and now we can relax. Even though we do plenty of productive things inside the house wearing our lazy clothes, now that I think about it. 😁 Our kids haven’t really picked up the habit, but my one rule for all of us is no laying in anyone’s beds with outside clothes on. Seasonal allergies around here can be rough so its a pollen thing as well as a germs.

12:37 On the bus pants, I soooo agree! I CRINGE when I see travel vloggers who say they have traveled the whole day enter their hotel room and jump into the bed with their airplane clothes! Gross! 😮🤮🤢 Some even put their bags on the bed! I have seen some who even use those shiny hotel bed covers as a blanket. Aaack

I, too, change out of outdoor clothes as soon as I'm home. I work in a setting with a lot of children and I also take public transit. For hygienic reasons, I will change. But just as important, is the mindset change once I'm in indoor clothes. I can relax and get into a cozy mode.

My friends and I had this discussion about changing clothing when we get home. Especially after riding public transportation in NYC.The subway cleaners only clean the trash and mop the floors at the end of the line. Only when it goes to the cleaning depot do the chairs be cleaned and sanitized 😮

Omg Monkey!! Haven't seen him in your vlogs for a hot minute. I love all the kitties you guys care for but Monkey "chirps" a lot like my own cat so I'm very partial towards him hahah. Also, totally agree with on the outside clothes thing... getting into bed while wearing clothes that I've already worn outside (and sat in public transport in) is basically a cardinal sin lol

We had the same kind of weather last week! Rain and then it turned into snow and was nice and fluffy and beautiful! I think it was our last snowfall, the crocus are out and the daffodils and tulips are coming up, the lilacs in my yard are budding, so ...spring is upon us! Re: bus pants - I am a germaphobe and I absolutely understand the idea of bus pants. Same for the subway, like..all the seats and the poles that other people touch after touching god knows what. GROSS!

Your conversation about the outdoor clothes vs. indoor clothes led me to a surprising realization about myself. I've been doing the same thing for almost as long as I've been in Korea. As soon as I come home, the outdoor clothes come off and the indoor clothes go on. But I never did that back in the States. And I'm sitting here wracking my brain trying to remember when and why I started doing it. I hadn't ever thought about it before. Now it's probably going to be driving me batty for the next week. Thanks, I guess 🙂

As a German where it's common to change out of outdoor shoes as it is in Korea I think maybe it has to do with the same mindset? Also it is less common to walk around in gym pants in Europe and Asia, so it makes sense one wants to lounge around in comfy clothes over the stiffer materials like jeans.

Whether it's shirt or pants, I think in the Asian context, most people change out of their outdoor clothes into something loose and comfortable for indoors, like T-shirt and shorts in the case of Singapore. This is usually the case when you've been out for a long time (not nearby neigbourhood food centre etc) and all that dust that settled on your clothes, the tiny critters you may bring home (like bugs) from outside unaware, are some reasons that explained why most people take off their outdoor clothes the moment they step in and leave it in the kitchen to hang. It's like how you won't want to bring your luggage into the living room/bedroom when that had been in hotels (which may have bed bugs) and where the rollers have touched every foreign ground. Do westerners change their clothes immediately after they reached home?

I always change out of my work clothes as soon as I get home, but if it’s the weekend I would just wear the same thing all day, but Hough I may get into pajamas fairly early if I’m not going back out. I always thought it was to preserve and protect your nicer clothing?

We also change our clothing when we get home. We do not have much public transport here, so it is mostly our car and possibly chairs in various places. We do not think of it necessarily for cleanliness but that makes sense. We mostly have outside clothes and inside clothes. The inside clothes is mostly for our comfort. I think many people have inside and outside clothing.

Re: The Bus pants! I get it. That makes sense. 😂 Most Aussies change when they get home, no-one wants to stay in their work gear. I too would strip off any public transport attire I wore that day and wash it too. Being a support work for many years, especially through the pandemic, you see first hand what germs can do to a person. I drive to work & back & sit on my own chair at work, so no need for bus 👖, but I still change as soon as I get home anyway. I call my home clothes my 'Homies'. I started doing this when I had my kids rather than being in PJ's all day, when you're at the lack of sleep stage of having a newborn (long time ago now) I'd wear homie clothes instead. Clothes I can take the bins out to the street in, not be embarassed in, if someone came to my front door, surprise visitor, etc. On an additional note, I truly love watching Beemo in your videos he has such bright beautiful eyes and the way he gently taps your arm for some 'gimme some food please' requests is adorable. The downstairs cats are cute too, but Beemo is my favourite. Thanks for sharing the snowy walk video. Being an Aussie we dont see snow unless you go specifically to the Snowy Mountains or live in that region. I just love seeing the snow on the 🌲 and the area all covered in snow. 😊

Hello and Good Morning both. To change from work clothes into casual house clothes was not due to my working environment or journey home in was to change the mind set from Work to Home. And I cannot change clothes without showering so I just shower and put on some clean homewear. It feels so good LOL.

I don’t think I EVER did a lot of what I do now until the pandemic. But now I have outdoor clothes and indoor clothes but I struggle with figuring out what clothes will be indoor only and what comfy, cute, and quick throw on clothes will be for outdoor only lol! My dad and brother don’t change when they get home though so I feel like the living room furniture is contaminated so I cave with that lol. But I’m wanting to wipe down travel bags of if I’ve had a bag on the ground out in public too and I wipe down my phone when I get home. I think it’s just a marketing scheme but I want to spray down my clothes with those new sanitizer sprays that came out during the pandemic but I ran out and can’t find them in stores anymore! I’m hoping it helps me relax a little lol

i think that i only became "aware" of my clothes being in contact with dirty stuff outside after the pandemic. before i wouldn't give it two thoughts. taking my shoes off when i get home though is something i incorporated into my life well over a decade ago as i started watching japanese dramas because it made a lot of sense to me. when i mention to people visiting my apartment that they can take off their shoes, as it is not a cultural norm here, most opt to keep their shoes on. but kyuho is right: nothing is more comfortable than sweatpants! sarah, about you being a germaphobe: I'm amazed by how chill you are touching street animals. I'm not a germaphobe always apprehensive as i think of the potential diseases they might be carrying. if i can wash my hands with water and soap immediately after, i know I'm going to have a hard time because i touch my face a lot without thinking 😅 ps: seeing how neatly you measure everything, you'd be greatly disappointed if you saw how i eyeball pancake batter ingredients and never follow a single recipe 😅😅

It’s definitely something I started in my first year of university when I was on the bus for about 2 hours a day-I just realized it was gross to wear those same clothes sitting all over the house furniture 😖 As for the cats, it doesn’t really bother me! I always wash my hands after touching them, and I very rarely touch my face (germaphobe thing, lol). I don’t mind dirt or soil either, for me it’s ’people germs’, crowded indoor spaces, door handles that thousands of people have touched, etc. that grosses me out.

Yes I've always changed into indoor clothes. It's a cultural thing, but I don't know why. My parents are from Ukraine, but we live in the Netherlands. Dutch people don't change into indoor clothes, but we always do :)

People have kept indoor clothes and outdoor clothes for untold hundreds of years. It was way more common before than it is now. My granddad, for example, would wear his gown over his night suit as soon as he got back from home. I change into my pajamas and slippers as soon I come back home from outside. It’s just clean and hygienic. Nothing cultural or unusual about it.

I change into indoor clothes from clothes I wear out because they are more comfortable American, so I'm not sure if its cultural or not. Keep up the good work, guys

I call my at home clothes my “grubs.” l don’t know why, because they’re not actually grubby. I think because my friend’s mom used to use that word for her yardwork attire. I change when I get home just to be comfy. I never thought much about the germ part, but it does make sense. All I care about is being comfortable, though. If I don’t change right away when I get home, it won’t bother me. But I wear tighter-fitting clothes when I go out and prefer my baggy grubs when I’m hanging out at home.

Yes... I definitely have nicer clothes that I only wear outside, and then worn out clothes for home. Hygiene and comfort are also the reasons I do it.

To make fluffier pancakes: add some (teaspoon) baking POWDER, not Baking Soda. Its. basically baking soda + an acid. This combination makes the pancake rise. Also, to make the pancake moister, use buttermilk. If you don't have it, just add some acid (lemon juice or vinegar to the milk.....trust me you won't taste it in the pancake) (about a tablespoon) into the batter. It makes a difference. Finally, always add a teaspoon of vanilla extract for flavor.

I am a huge fan of your guys' germophobia/cleanliness!!!!! I like that you still wear masks and also that you change out of your public transport pants, when you get home❤!!! Personally I never used to be a germophobe. I used to only care about order and cleanliness, but not germs. I hardly even washed my hands when eating out streetfood or the like and I used to frown at people, who used these disinfectant gels in restaurants. But then I got older and sicker and the pandemic rolled around. And at the start of the pandemic I did a lot of research about Covid and how long it lived on surfaces. And now my life is so stressful. I never contracted Covid until last Nov/Dec 23 and even my MD said I was high risk despite vaccination and Vitamin D, etc. So I also took paxlovid, when I contracted it. I am 40yo now and have a bunch of comorbidities. Anyway I survived fine and now I dont know what to do about my extreme hygiene rituals. Should I keep them up, or not? I can always get Paxlovid again, after all. One example of my ritual- I dont bring any mail into the house (always unpack outside, wipe down with alcohol, then in....) or groceries. Same procedure. Also I always take a shower when getting home and I dont put my street clothes in my wardrobe. Either I wash everything I have worn right away, or I keep them in a separate wardrobe, so the clean clothes dont get contaminated by "dirty" clothes. (Dirty just means "could have been contaminated"😅). So now I feel I have been converted to germophobia and it is hard to go back. Even though I realise I might not need to be all that careful anymore... but its difficult to find a middle ground. 😂
