Are you passionate about becoming a dental hygienist? What were your motives/reasons for deciding this career?

Hi love! I’m very passionate about this profession. I originally had no idea that I would go into this profession until the end of my senior year of HS. I was always intrigued with dentistry, specifically ortho. But I came across DH and I’m so glad I choose this career. I’ll be going more in depth about why I chose this career in my next upcoming video!

Hi, I have a question it may be dumb question. While you are in school do you have a part time job? Or no?

not a dumb question at all! I did work a part-time job for 3 semesters of the program but I worked only 1-2 times a week because during the third semester our clinical were 36 hours a week and that's just clinical. That doesn't even include lectures and studying time. My last semester which is this semester, I actually quit my job because I needed to make time for everything including BOARDS! it was all getting too much.

Did you get an associates or bachelors? If you don’t mind me asking I’m debating on taking an accelerated 18 month program or if I should get a bachelors

I got my associates last year and started working :) but I actually finished up my bachelor’s just this month!! I wanted to get my bachelor’s in case I ever want to dive into other non-chair side parts of dental hygiene but you certainly do not need a bachelors to work chair side

Love your video! You mentioned in your dental material class you did composite fillings! Do hygienists get to do fillings as well?! :)

Thank you so much!! Unfortunately, we are not allowed to do fillings or any restorative treatments as a dental hygienist. However, we do have to learn in school because there are contraindications and we also need to be able to educate our patients on how to properly clean around their restorations

What tips would you guys recommend I’m a high school students this year I upcoming year I will be a senior and taking a dental assistant class that offers me a or teaches me to get a certificate after the program I’m not sure if I will like being in the dental industry but if I do my goal is to become a dental hygienist.

Most of my classmates actually started off as a dental assistant. I think that it’s a great way to see if dentistry is something you’ll love to be in or not! I would recommend shadowing dental hygienists too, I always recommend shadowing no matter if you’re still in high school because you’ll get a real insight. I had no background knowledge of dentistry at all prior to applying to DH schools lol but I fell in love with this career

I’m a senior in high school and I have no idea what major I should go for but I’m debating between dental hygienist or CNA🥺🥺.. i I really like dental hygienist but I heard the school is not easy

hey girl! I think that both are hard in their own ways, you just have to choose which one you'd be willing to put effort in. DH school is really tough but it's so worth it and rewarding at the end! I'll be posting a video real soon where I talk about this topic and advice I would give other people interested in DH :)

Being a CNA doesn't require extensive schooling like a dental hygienist does. As I'm currently a CNA, hopefully, going into dental hygiene. Being a CNA also is not a degree, just keep that in mind!
