He was in love...It was Deborah Who filed for divorce and wanted to call It quits I think he had liked to stay with her forever...both had chemistry and you can see he adores her.. I think a part of him still loves her..

So cute. Which year was this from? Robert called Deborah, his ex-wife & he has yet to filmed Gothica which Susan produced so it would be around 2002-2003.

I have no hate for Susan but I feel it’s a little unfair when RDJ gives her full credits for helping him stay sober and getting his life on track. Not denying her role in his life as a positive influence but she had it “easier” because they met after he had gotten sober and more or less gotten himself on track already. I feel he should also give credit to his ex wife when talking about his recovery. Since she’s the one who put up with him when he was at his worst, tried to give him the support needed and raised their child mostly on her own. Despite the tough times they’ve had, this video shows the effort she’s put in to still be a part of his life as a friend even though they’re no longer married.

I dont think his ex wife really helped him with the recovery. Im afraid It was Susan who really changed him for better . When Robert was struggling with the drugs, his wife filed for divorce and separated from him. She was living with some other dude and she would let Robert supervised visits to see his son . I dont think she really did anything for him ...She was an addict too and she was struggling with her own demons too ... Susan was who really got Robert on track and she was the type of woman and person Robert needed to wake up and change. Without Susan, he would have probably kept his addictions and bad life. So I dont think his first wife deserves any kind of credit or special thanks, she was who dumped him and filed for divorce and she moved on so It was not until he met Susan, he changed his ways . It sounds to me like Deborah just gave up on him ,she was married to him the first years but when he showed his bad ways, she left him ,so she was not with him when he was really fucked Up..

@@rosechocolat6121 I don't think its completely fair to say Deborah easily gave up on him. I'm sure she would have given him chances to change and prove that he's serious about their marriage and child. If you see what happened 1995/1996 it seems he was often breaking promises despite multiple chances (missing court dates and tests) and letting down the people who were trying to help him (for e.g Sean Penn who tried to get him into rehab but he escaped). She probably felt it was the final straw and applied for a divorce after his last bender when he was filming Ally Mcbeal. She also probably decided it was best to move out so that her son could grow up in a more stable environment (I'm just giving a guess here cos that's what my mum did for my sake). She may have been an addict too but she successfully sobered up for her son and her family. So props to her for that.

Well, it's disrespectful to mention your ex wife always when you are happily married. As much as he didn't 90% of the work of sobering up, there was a time he nearly went back to drugs, Susan gave him an ultimatum to leave him if he continued and he didn't want to love her or their love so he fought the desire and has never used drugs again.

I prefer him with Deborah...they had awesome chemistry and I feel Indio grew Up feeling alienated...he is not a happy boy maybe because of the situation with his parents and Robert having a new family I wish he had stayed with Deborah, she sounds perfect for him.

So wanted to get ahold of a previous comment, where it stated to the effect Debra was sexier for Robert. Just watching them together wears me the hell out. So glad Indio came out of that union, but Damn!...So much more was in store for Mr.Downey and not that jumbled mess. It was what it was. So much happier for him now, obviously. Life...

I have the same feeling...despite all Happy and smiles he is with Susan, his current wife, I still think a small part of him loves/ misses Deborah It was her Who filed for divorce and dumped him but Robert didnt want a separation. He met Susan and he loves her, Obviously but I still see chemistry with Deborah , I Saw some pics of them together when he was already married to Susan and you can see a small sad look in his eyes when he is around her and Indio I think he feels bad he ruined his family...Its cool he has Susan and two kids now but Deborah and Indio were there before and no Matter how Happy and cool he acts but that doesnt change the fact he had a family which went to hell because of his addictions..It has to be hard he has to live with that......

Come on haven't you seen the way Robert is looking into Susan's eyes? That's pure love and it's obvious that he has found the one the love of his life And I bet the most here can't name a better couple, they are made for each other and still when they look at each others eyes they feel the same way and we can see that

So sad Deborah and Robert separated..:( They seem to get along really well,and they act so happy and funny..I don't get why they could not go back together..Deborah is really sexy and gorgeous,much better than Susan Downey..I am glad Robert is happy with Susan but I think it would have been great if Robert and Deborah had solved their problems as couple.They together looked great and Deborah fits better with sexy Robert :)

Sometimes people just do better as friends. And I like Susan when I see her in interviews, she seems cool and she's accomplished a lot. And personally I think she's very pretty (though looks really shouldn't be the deciding factor anyway).
