So glad to hear from someone else my age who doesn't drink! I'm literally allergic, I get a huge full body rash and really bad headaches/gastro symptoms from alcohol. Based on the severity of the reactions I was told to quit drinking cold turkey when I went to the doctor about it, and also that it might be a good idea to carry an epipen. My partner stopped drinking to support me which was so sweet and has made giving it up easier. I so agree with you about mocktails, it's nice to have something to make you feel a little special. We'll order them on date nights sometimes and at home we drink sparkling apple cider if we want to get fancy.

Zoe so interesting, I have been clean of alcohol for 6 months now, and my sobriety is one of my most precious gifts today. Life changes and you get to see another outlook of life :) . Alcohol doesn’t serve my life anymore, and it is so interesting to see that people just decide to quit it. That’s amazing Zoe :)

Agree with the alcohol....if I am working out in the morning, I cannot even have a glass of wine the night before. And the days I workout, alcohol is so unappealing as well. I like having a glass of wine or two when I am with friends or at a nice restaurant, it makes me feel fancy lol. When I am home, I have started putting Bubbly in a wine glass and that makes me feel fancy too lol.

I have been trying to cut back on my drinking but it’s so hard because I have depression and social anxiety. Drinking helps me have fun and makes me a million times more social. However I get really bad hangovers too and it dries out my skin and makes it super inflamed. I’m so over it.

The rewards systems are the best! I travel all over the US (and sometimes internationally) as an engineer. Basically any vacation I take I don’t need to pay for rental cars or hotels because of all of my points.

I have been sober for six years or so now because of my migraines now. I am in a pretty drink heavy culture for work now and I just get mocktails or water and nobody really cares. They just want to make sure the bartenders make me good drinks too since the company pays for my tab too.

Pausing to comment cause it's such a synchronicity for me that you're talking about limiting alcohol consumption!! I've been on the exact same train and it feels amazing. I've been observing my heightened levels of anxiety/feeling low post drinking for years now and finally said enough is enough, can't pretend this isn't correlated and this point lol. And then I read the book Quit Like a Woman (highlyy recommend) and all the health/wellness effects outlined really solidified it for me (and honestly disturbed me because binge drinking IS so normalized in our culture). I'm not swearing it off forever either, but really excited to limit consumption as much as possible and not give into peer pressure :) Also loving this video and so glad you're figuring out ways to still travel and enjoy yourself Zoe!

Really relating to this video as I found myself not drinking much anymore since the pandemic began. I realized it was because I was around people in MTL drinking all the time as it is normalized. Also, I bought my Flair air tickets two days ago and heading to Vancouver in a couple of weeks! :D (Tho I didn't find $80 tickets) Also going to a Canucks game too. What a coincidence!

I havent drank my whole life. Ive been lucky that all my friends and peers always accepted me. I became like the poster child for like " look being sober you can still be fun!" lol which had its on challenges down the line. But its seriously crazy how much drinking is associated with so much as an adult in society. As someone who is on the outside looking in, i rarely comment on it, for fear people think I'm judging. But its just crazy how automatic it is. Im often the only one someone has met who doesn't drink. It s like smoking is a choice when were young... but people don't realize that they've made an active choice to drink too. I think reflecting on anythings position in your life is important to do here and there! A check in! Glad you found a balance that works for you and glad you're speaking on it!
