I didn’t participate in Rocket Summer because I was still doing a bunch of catch-up reading from months prior! 😢 Thankfully, I’ve been on vacation for a little over a week, and I finished several items in that time! -Death Masks, by Jim Butcher. #5 in the Dresden Files. Excellent occult detective. -Tommy Taylor and the Ship that Sank Twice, Unwritten graphic novel special -Super Team, Fables vol. 16 (graphic novel) -Lila, a character study of a woman living in rural America in the first half of the 20th century. And I got to start several more items, including the 3rd Wheel of Time. 12 items read in July, with a goal of 11 for August.

I finished the Dan Dare story I was reading, I'll read more through August, expanding my Rocket Summer for more Kuttner and Dan Dare comics.

Good luck with the FF series. I'll be doing the same once the Marvel Masterworks series reaches 1996.

"Some would claim that I read trash all the time. Some would claim that, Roger. They're crazy."......as he speaks to his mummified companion.........(ahem).

I love it when you look back at (or exchange glances with?) Roger, like you're checking with him to see if he agrees with a point you are making. Also, congrats on finishing up Thor, vol 1. I have finished Thor Omnibus vol. 1, which is not the same thing. I am now trying to read my other favorites, Avengers, Captain America and the FF, cycling between their omnibuses. But I am not moving through them very quickly. I also just started reading the Rougon-Macquart series by Émile Zola, even though I am 70, I read slow, and there are 20 books in the series. Thanks for your awesome videos, which are almost always entertaining, and funny, and interesting. Which puts you in a class by yourself, in my experience.

I read trash all the time too. You read interesting books that for the most part I have never heard of but always sound interesting. 😀

Dear Michael, the reason I'm writin' is how to say 'chitin'😀

Maybe The Green Brain causes the same chitinous pronunciation problem as The Green Death. The problem with chitin is GWEEN.

A day late, and I didn’t stick to the formula, but I did finish three Rocket Summer books. From the Earth to the Moon (some of the chapters heavy on the math seemed a little much at first, but then I got totally caught up in the story), Thuvia, Maid of Mars (absolutely loved it), and Body Snatchers, which has been on my shelf for years and was added thanks to your video. Turns out I’ve got the 70s version. It’s a little jarring to see the 70s dates when the 50s feel is so heavy, and he does have Miles and Becky watching a movie version of one his books that was released in the early 70s, but I’m hoping those were the only differences. Guess I need to find the original sometime. Either way, I really enjoyed the read. Thanks for the project idea!

When I first read Dune way back when I went looking for more stories by Frank Herbert. When I saw The Green Brain, I took one look at it and ran away screaming. 🤣🤣🤣

Gregg Press did a somewhat fancy edition of The Green Brain. Which, dang, now I kind of want that. 😉

I re-read The Green Brain in anticipation of your review. The 'love interest' element gives it quite a trashy element. It's typical Herbert wierdness but oddly enough, I liked it. The 3 people on a boat (survival trope) saves it for me. And it's short.

The 'animal attack' sub-genre provided me with hours of cheesy entertainment growing up. I recently re-watched "Them" (the giant ant movie with Joan Collins) and "Day of the Animals," which was totally worth it just to watch Leslie Nielsen go native. Oh, and "Kingdom of the Spiders" with William Shatner. Great, cheesy fun all around.

I read Adam Roberts' _The Death of Sir Martin Malprelate_ which i think would be right up your alley. Also reread Anthony Powell's _The Acceptance World_ , which I suspect you wouldn't care for. Shocked by how little I remeber of these books. Started on your girl Jane Austen's _Persuasion_ now 🎉 The only non-Dune Herbert I've read was a short story collection -- used to have skme other books of his, but purged then when I realized they'd sat around on my shelves for a decade and i still had no great urge to read them

I think you just wanted to put yourself next to Jessica Alba.... 😁 I have pre-ordered the 3rd Hanuvar book. And I did before your attempted mind control order to your video slaves to buy Jones' book. Good stuff....

I have had a weird week two. Both my parents had medical issues which not in any way life threatening has been bad. Also, my brother and niece went on vacation an left my niece's pet lizard with them. So of course it up and died on them. My brother wants the body preserved for burial. So there is a dead lizard in my parent's freezer. (In a bag in tupper ware.) I did manage to read all of The Averoigne Chronicles by CAS. I don't like the Averoinge stories as much as Smiths Zothique or Hyperborea ones but they are entertaining. I think Lee and Kirby's Fantastic Four took a few issues to get going, but when it did...

I read another chunk of lovecraft stories and I'm also still reading the tommyknockers by Stephen King. When it comes to scheduling things for my channel I write it down in my notes and really try to stick to it. I don't know what I'd post for epic comic book Wednesday. Hmm?

Isn't an inverted version of Italy a long inland Sea? Anyway great of you to give him a shout out. I've been very impressed with how much of booktube has taken up Rocket Summer. If it's this popular, you may be able to work with the other definition of Rocket summer: a sudden warm spell that defrosts everything - perhaps as a February event. Maybe not this year - don't want to seem greedy, or like an ingrate. . .

Not sure if you are interested or not, but in about ten days Marvel is releasing August 1961 in trade paperback if you don't have the omnibus. It has all the Marvel comics that were on the news stand that month that the Fantastic Four 1 was released.
