Did you know there are REAL mermaids in Florida? Fun Fact: The mermaids use a patented hose system to breath underwater. In order to stay floating in one spot the mermaids must to hold the right amount of air in their bodies. Thanks so much for watching , we really appreciate it :) If you want to catch up on this series you can watch our Nature Coast Trip from the beginning here: kzbin.info/aero/PLOT_jgQ5dAKwdm2hWC4OfvLxTDsJMPADv

What a great day, holding a baby peacock is pretty unique and Frank/Frankie was super cute. Love the mermaid show, you guys looked inspired by them with all your underwater swimming in the springs too😊

Jamie definitely has the swimming skills to be a mermaid. Me... not so much. But I can swim well enough not to drown. 😅 The baby peacock was the cutest thing ever.

How unique is a mermaid show! It’s so cool! Any little girl (or grown up girl’s) dream 😁 The colour of the spring water is beautiful and looks like you had so much fun swimming and snorkelling. Your food looked delicious! The brewery looked amazing, I must say, the beers that you guys try at all these breweries are always so different and unique. What a way to end the day at Sam’s beach bar 🥰

Yeah, I definitely enjoyed the experience as an adult, but it would have been a whole other level as a kid! We always like to try the unusual beers. Some times they end up tasting as strange as they sound, but more often than not they are delicious!

Ahhh the baby peacock is sooooo cute! The mermaid show looks pretty cool, definitely not something we've seen anywhere before. The water is soooo turquoise and clear, would love to go for a swim there. Dinner and tiki bar to end the night off sounds great!

It looks like such a pretty area! I have never seen a mermaid show before - that is pretty unique. I would love to see that. My husband isn't really interested in swimming, but the spring looked like a great spot for it. He would definitely be interested in the tiki bar though. The scallop and shrimp skewers looked incredible!! I also have a weakness for onion rings. So yummy. That habanero beer sounded really interesting. What a great day!
@Explorcation3 жыл бұрын
Ahhh the Habanero beer was soo weird but so good. We really lucked out with all of the awesome tiki bars we got to visit on this trip. And the springs were a really fun place to swim, once you got used to the temperature!

I had no idea Florida had so many springs! Very cool! So many concentrated in the north of Florida. That mermaid show looked super unique! Pretty amazing they were able to stay underwater for so long with just breathing through a tube every once in a while

It really is a crazy amount, and gives us a great reason to make our way up to the north part of Florida. And yeah, the mermaids are crazy skilled and very impressive for sure!

Hey guys...looks like a really nice spot to visit...I don't think we have any mermaid shows in Australia, so would be a nice unique experience to see. Nice capture with the peacock, it's not often you get to see the tail up and vibrating for attention. I've seen it a couple of times here, but not enough. Last year I saw a few beside the road in the outback....not where I thought I would see them. The swimming looked cool... but sounded cold...I was in 43 degree waters only last week... that's in Celsius and so hot. It was really refreshing and those videos are to come. Once again finding more tiki bars and some awesome looking good... ended up being a great day for you. Thanks so much for sharing 👍😜
@Explorcation3 жыл бұрын
Oh wow 43 degree Celsius water sounds painfully hot, but I'm sure you adapt quickly. We really weren't anticipating all of the peacock experiences at Weeki Wachee, but it was a lot of fun to see the adults and the baby. And yeah, we sure didn't have any trouble finding tiki bars on this trip. Always a great way to end a day!
@AquariusTraveller3 жыл бұрын
@@Explorcation yep....43 degrees is really hot but you do adjust quickly and get used to it. After a while it was getting colder and needed to add more water in ...lol

I have met many more professional mermaids than most people. It’s a South Florida thing. But these were the first, decades ago, and the only ones I’ve come across who breathe underwater. Next time I want to swim there. Looks like a lot of fun.
@Explorcation3 жыл бұрын
I (Jamie) think the mermaids of South Florida are pretty magical :) It was really cool to learn about this history of the springs and the park, along with the underwater breathing experience. We were super impressed with the whole experience and would love to go back when the park is fully open again. Thanks for watching Bob :)

Hey Lauren, we planned this trip on a budget and stayed at a Microtel on the east side of Brooksville. It was a nice hotel, but when we booked we thought it was a little closer to Weeki Wachee,. We would have preferred to be a little closer to the Weeki Wachee area. Thanks so much for watching!

how does one become a professional mermaid ? asking for myself and sara! haha
@Explorcation3 жыл бұрын
😆 That is a great question! I (Jamie) am not a mermaid expert....but I did do a little research before we visited the park. It is my understanding that to use the patented hose system the mermaids do have to be scuba trained. Prior to the pandemic you could book a weekend to learn to be a mermaid (like swim in the mermaid fins) but I dont know if that has restarted yet...and it was a bit pricey 💰
@TheDetourDuo3 жыл бұрын
@@Explorcation well we're both scuba trained so that's a start.

The Park runs a Training and Certification course. It includes Water Acrobatics, Water Safety, use of their breathing system and numerous swim skill tests which includes a full length of the exhibition glass window breath hold swim. They also do 2-3 day interest classes running about $500-600 plus lodging and food, there's high demand and it can be hard to obtain a slot in the interest classes. But it's also a good way to decide if you want to pursue the other.
