Great tips! 👍 I'd say RO water and a microfiber cloth is great for cleaning glass too! 👌

Is there somewhere that has like a checklist for maintenance? Or a checklist for things to buy? Looking into starting my first tank here, and I am absolutely overwhelmed with things to buy and daily/weekly tasks.

I wish these videos was out when I started out. Would of helped a lot. Iv been keeping a reef tank for about 5 years now and after watching these videos I’m changing the way I do some of the maintenance on the tank. Could I ask one question is the top shelf in your fish room out of level it catches my eye every time

Feeding corals has never been in my favor. It results in added waste, phosphates, fueling nuisance algae and other pests (hydroids, aiptasia, spirobid worms, and worms in general)

I find that wetting my filter sock with RO water before I add it to the sump keeps my Skimmer from going loco. Mine seems to not like a dry sock. Maybe this will work for you. Thanks for sharing.

Why gravel vac the sand if you have sand sifting CuC? Can one not ever gravel vac and just rely those sand sifter? I would think gravel vacuuming would just remove their food source.
@BulkReefSupply
@BulkReefSupply 2 жыл бұрын
A lot of it comes down to sand bed depth. Sand sifting clean up crew does a great job on that first 1" or so layer, but if you have a deeper sand bed, your tank can benefit from using a gravel vac. That said, you don't necessarily need to gravel vac the entire sand bed each time you do it. Breaking the tank down into 1/4 or 1/3 sections and doing smaller parts of the tank at a time is beneficial in some cases.

Hey Matthew love watching the series it’s awesome. One subject I just can’t seem to find and maybe you could help with, is a good video showing the correct way to fill a tank for the first time. What I really need to know is how do I know when the levels are correct in each chamber of the sump and at what point I turn my return pump on without it running dry before water from the skimmer chamber can replenish it. I just cannot seem to find a video showing this so any help would be amazing thank you.
@BulkReefSupply
@BulkReefSupply 2 жыл бұрын
Just fill the display up so that the water starts flowing down the overflow. Then, over fill the sump slightly and turn the return pump on. Keep an eye on it the first time you fire up the system so that you can make sure the return doesn't run dry. If necessary, you can always unplug the return pump and add a bit more water.
