These weekly quest updates are definitely at the expense of a player's own value. Overall, our rewards for the time we put into the game have depreciated. In short, Blizzard now values our time less. An argument I have heard a few times against pushback to the changes is, "You are earning more XP/reward/etc. for completing weekly tasks than you were before, so why complain?" As many have shown (including in this video), the compensation does not match the increase in effort by a wide margin. Furthermore, while it is an increase in rewards, some neglect to see the threshold for not completing the weekly quest(s) and receiving *no* reward has also significantly increased. I imagine most of us play because we like the game, but we cannot always dedicate so much time to doing things we like, and our various hobbies may compete for the hours we do set aside for them. One suggestion I have seen floating around in response to this is to uninstall/refuse to play the game until the change is reversed. I believe this is no longer good enough as it sets the precedent of Blizzard being able to test the waters with worse changes for the player base at absolutely no risk to themselves. To those this negatively impacts, which should be basically everyone, I suggest we do not play until we see an *increase* in the rewards to effort ratio, and with quests of reasonable requirements as they once were, or a tiered completion system where lower tiers will reward the player with the same or better compensation and completion requirements as before the weekly quest updates. Anything less and we will see the same thing happen again. I have said it elsewhere and I will say it again: If a game begins to feel like more of a chore than fun, I will drop it as I have done several others. I value my time too much.

We'll see how brilliant the strategy is when I stop playing like I did 6 years ago until last November when I decided to check out the game again. I doubt I'm the only one who will dip out if the game starts feeling like a chore fest which punishes you for playing casually. Short term gain at the expense of the game dying in the long term doesn't seem very brilliant to me.

@@marleonka. you could complete most dailies with duels, that requires very little time since the first duels are so short and you can fill the deck with quest requirements now that can't be done AND the quests are harder + who are you or they to tell people what to play or whether or not it inconveniences them. If it doesn't bother you great but these changes screw over a large segment of the player base enough that a bunch will quit or just play battlegrounds

@marleonka5578 with how much they're charging for a pre order only 60ish packs for like $70 and you're lucky to get 3 or 4 legendaries that you have to pray are viable before they go to wild. If you want to disenchant those legendaries for a meta one you'll need to disenchant 4 to make 1.... not even including epics and with how highlander decks are viable now you're most likely needing more epics and legendaries to be a top tier deck. So why can't we want more free rewards? Why should we have to spend almost $100 every 4 months to be able to make 1 or 2 meta decks praying they don't get nerfed and those epics and legendaries we crafted or got lucky enough to pull to make those decks useless because 2 commons or rares got changed? I'd love to know

I see almost no posts talking about the _price_ of the game (gold or packs) going drastically up. In HS there is virtually no difference between rewards xp and gold (thus packs), so raising the requirements for quests or lowering the acquirement of xp is the equivalent of raising the cost of packs. This is the _only_ reason for Blizzard to do this, not 'player engagement' or whatever nonsense they're trying to sell this with. Increase of cost, end of. For free to play players, this is a real spit in the face.

I'm the type of person who always purchased the larger bundle each season. Because my job situation changed I went from free to play to tiny whale, I guess. I also always purchased the reward track upgrade thing. I also complete every one of my daily and weekly quests. The thing is I don't play on ladder. It's too frustrating and I'm just not good enough, so I was overjoyed when I found out my best friend plays as well. We play each other to finish quests. He is strictly free to play and even though we are roughly the same skill level I end up winning most of our games because I have better cards. But we still have fun. I've noticed that at the end of the reward track I usually have around 8000 gold and he has 5000. I used money to buy mini sets and he uses gold. Hearthstone, despite its faults, was always fun for us. But I'm just tired of this direction their heading. I don't think I'm going to spend any more money on them. I'll still play but I'll save all my gold for new sets (not the mini sets) and just ride it out until the game folds. Maybe I'll find a new game to play with my friend. (just not Marvel Snap)

I stopped spending on the bundles 3 years ago. Now it's saving all the gold to buy anywhere between 80 - 100 packs. The only money spent is on Battlegrounds. Ranked is nothing more than a grind. I'm at Plat 5 and it's move two steps forward then two steps back. It also sucks that you can't get dust normal/gold cards. 2 normal and 2 gold but you can only use two in a deck. The other is nothing more than eye candy. Also being a casual player I don't spend 4 - 5+ hours of my life staring at the computer screen. I'm retired and I have things like house cleaning and such since my wife can't do much if she has to use a walker just to get around the house. Most of these "dedicated" players are on Twitch trying to make a name for themselves while hoping people will sub to them so they don't need an actual job. The Rune Stone system is a joke considering if you want to use "that" type of currency you'll still have to use actual money to purchase them. The developers must think we are so stupid to pull stunts like this.

I am a pretty active player who reaches Legend every season. But this week I started doing my quests differently. For instance the Mini-Quest, I build a deck with only Miniturize Minions and Draw cards and hop into Casual Mode, draw cards, play minis, when my hand is empty I concede and queue another game. Fuck blizzard for this

The real issue is that missing a week is much more punishing than it used to be, not that it takes more time. Missing a week means it will take 4-5 weeks to break even compared to the old system. That feels really bad. A tiered rewards system would be ideal, so that missing a week doesn't feel so bad and playing every week rewards you more for your activity.

I've been loving Duels lately, and had no idea it was being deleted until last week. This is the fourth day of my new streak: Days WITHOUT playing any HS at all. This isn't because of some rage-induced boycott; it's because I wasn't having fun any more. One of the main problems that nobody talks is that most of times quests doesnt complete in same time - for example spending mana and dealing damage is easy, but makings wins in ranked and using so huge amount of minis in same time is imposible. Most of the good decks does not even use minis or if there are minis they are just two copies of one card. This means that we have to make decks with maximum amount of minis only and play unranked, because we cant win with them, The older minis quest version required minimum 2 games to do it with 5 times lesser amount of minies. In daily quest also we have terrible ones - like playing murlocs, that are not use in a single good deck in standard and wild atm. Cant believe how greedy and incompetent same time are people in Hearthstone/Microsoft.

Hearthstone is my "After uni" relaxation game, I love to jump in two or three games, get a few missions done and go on with my day as I have stuff to do, getting to win 5 games was just enough games to get my rewards, but 15 is excessive, I don't play this game daily. The more I play these live services games, the more I realize time is a valuable thing, when I was a kid with so much free time I didn't mind waiting a day or two for new missions and do stuff on some games, but now as an adult, you just don't have the luxury of waiting. This is just predatory, and I don't think the Microsoft adquisition wouldn't fix any of these type of things, if Blizzard was already making money in their own way, enough money to get Microsoft interested, they'll continue this monetization scheme or make it worse.

Guys, this season is the first season I play HS since 2016. I don't understand the discussion about quests. For example when I get a Q to play mini cards+battlecry, I just fill my deck mini+battlecry+draw low mana cards. I choose the casual mode, play this random deck for max. 30min including the time I spent on the deck creation while watching my favourite TV series on another screen and the weekly quests are done. (ofc, I lose all the casual matches, but I don't even try to win)

The real motive is engagement metrics and how they get misinterpreted. This channel, Rarran and Thijs are the only things that I keep track of Hearthstone for now. 2023 had more people playing because 2022 was three good sets after a miserable 2021, combined with three more good ones in 2023. Control Warrior, Zarimi Priest and Shopper DH are not things I find remotely fun.

last week was the first one in 10 years where i was unable to complete any weekly quest. 32 minis, 75 battlecries and 10 wins were not possible after hours of playing. i am really thinking about quitting because this would mean the end of progressing. 100% f2p casual player, standard only and mostly playing less than 1h daily just to not lose any quest rewards (until now). usually reaching gold 10 or 5. also the matchmaking is worse than ever, my winrate is currently about 20% while my opponents are not getting weaker after 10 losses in a row... i had 7 bonus stars (second time to be higher than gold 5) and had around 50 losses (just a guess, didn't count) until 6 bonus stars. if i ever seem to finally be winning, my opponent concedes and steals the fun. another reason to quit.

As a player since Closed Beta and Hearthstone being my 'hour a day during dinner' game I can safely say the new model means I quit. There are days where I gain no wins towards dailies and the average Battlegrounds last 25-40mins. People point out easier methods of finishing dailies, but the point should be to be able to play how you want, have fun, and still feel rewarded. No amount of exp is worth the extra time asked by this new system. Tiering or making it work like battlegrounds quests won't make it feel better, either. Not saying the design was perfect, far from it, but it worked.

Sorry but I don't understand why you're upset about this modifications. I mean, actually weekly quests are completed on monday or thuesday without thinking about it even a second. Winning 15 games in a week drive you to win at least 2 games / Day... + one. We just don't get any attention on them, and I think that regular/ daily players deserve an advantage, even a small one. With à 50% WR decks it means playing 4 games a, representing around 30min in game / day (less with aggro decks, more with control...). At the end it won't change anything for regular players, we stil manage to achieve every quests on time, but with more ressources for the new expansion. At the end we speak about 8-10 additionnals packs, with means 1 or 2 epics cards end 1 legendary with Luck, or 1 epic and full dust without (so enough to craft another epic at least). Always good to take. And if you play so few that you don't completed every quests, you won't have all the free ressources... just part of it. Seems faire enough for me

Problem is "regular players" think they are regular while actually they are just scrub in sofa, no career, no wife, no children (but themselves), no realistic healthy life. Playing every day is an "unwanted" criteria for any healthy life (and any wife/partner). I play other games too, don't want to be a slave to weekly chore, there are other not dark patterns. Problem is, since I'm rich because I'm a hard worker, I pay, but even while paying if you do'nt have time to complete weeklies with only few hours a week, you can't grow PAID reward track. Which is a very very bad chess move.

After playing Marvel Snap for half a year, I really appreciate the monetization and rewards of Hearthstone much more. Players unsatisfied with the rewards in Hearthstone should try to build anything close to competitively viable in Snap without paying (or having started at launch). I'm making the comparison because I think as a free to play game, it needs to be evaluated in the context of its competitors. I found the changes to the weekly quests in Hearthstone a bit excessive, but the reaction by the community on Reddit was way over the top. The game is doing well, so I don't know why people are acting as if the game were close to failing.

This very much needs to be talked about, because it's not the only game, it's almost all of them. Most fps right now are battlepass or bust. Its twisted taking actual skill from players to help timmy wallet never lose a game even if he's a trash newb. Heathstone has always been somewhat rigged but omg what it looks like now. As a wild player I can contest it doesn't function, blizz planned that as well.

I vote for weaponized incompetence on Blizzard's part. I have both a paid account and a FTP account. The meta was preventing me from having fun for about 80% of the past year, so I was strongly considering dropping the game entirely at rotation. The set looked like a lot of fun and it has actually been decent for the most part. Changing the weekly quests has killed my motivation to play on either account right now. I was sitting on the fence about leaving the game, and they might have just pushed me over the edge. In their greed, they have probably lost both my money and my engagement on 2 accounts.

Have played since the start. I dont want to play hearthstone as much as they’re asking lol. Now it just feels like some sick homework assignment. Definitely playing less and will probably stop all together. Oh well was a good time.

I fucking hate Hearthstone right now! They made us re earn cards we have had for years and had golden copies of them by moving them to Legacy. So I had to re earn those cards, on top of this season of toys which is so tone deaf as some of their players have been playing for 10 years (me). Then they spring these super long quests which reward about the same points when you can complete them, this is predatory and just a desperate attempt to drive up engagement.

This 15 wins a week makes the game a lot less fun. When I'm loading the game I hope to have fun and relax regardless of losses or wins. Now this just a chore. I don't think I will keep on playing there's no way I can spend this much time on the game.

Before I could easily complete the free game pass gaining around 8k gold. They made it harder so players cant reach this and will be forced to pay packs to get some good legendaries or be able to craft 1 good deck. Blizzard is a disgrace not one cent anymore for this shitty company

I think this is the end of hearthstone - I have decided to quit to many things that are just so wrong for the game I think in 1-2 years hearthstone won't be around anymore
