As much as I hate replacing CRTs with LCDs in arcade machines, im really glad more arcade monitor options are coming out. I really wish someone would make them slighly curved (like a trinitron screen) and supports scanlines or shaders, to better mimic the CRTs they are replacing.

A 40-inch 4:3 dual-cell-IPS with a curved gorilla glass lens, JVC D-Series & Panasonic Quintrix bubble curve style, is the pipe dream, along with a decent FPGA accelerated CRT beam emulator (rolling-scan), high-res dot-trio mask + HDR injected phosphor glow, and polyphase-scaling. And maybe a nice big 60 inch 4:3 display with a lenticular lens one day would be really cool.

The Arcooda monitors look incredibly good for their purpose. I'd pick these just because of the simplification it brings.

I actually am one of those people who rack mounts the AV equipment for his gaming setup, though my particular rack doesn't quite have the room for the gswitch mounts lol. It's a 6u 2 post rack I got last year that currently holds a tecmojo power strip, Tesmart 16 port HDMI switch, a brush panel to hide some cables and a shelf that holds my gamescare component switcher and RetroTINK 5x. I don't have a scart switch yet so I just connect my PS1 directly to the RetroTINK (the brush panel REALLY comes in handy for that, as well as for connecting cables to the Gamescare switch 😉 )

I am still waiting on my Unico Nova Blast that I ordered in January 2024. Part of the attraction was plug and play JAMMA and the monitor. TBH if I'd known how long Unico would take to deliver and this was on the horizon, I would flat pack, harness and Arcooda to make my own JAMMA cab.

I had the 3DO RGB page open on my cell phone, always checking to see if it was back in stock. On the first of February I saw it was back and bought it right away. The cool thing is that there's a discount coupon, if I'm not mistaken, 50%.

The 3DO RGB kit at that discounted price is something I would have jumped on a year or two ago, but at this point I think I'll just wait for the MiSTer core. We're in good hands with SRG320 tackling that project. Once it becomes stable enough I'm most likely going to just sell my real 3DO anyway

I'm not gonna lie, I adore CRTs, maybe to much, but I love the idea of a 33" 4:3 LCD that's arcade grade, but imo, what these should be is dual-cell-IPS panels, as these have OLED blacks combined with IPS bright levels, which will be a much more convincing CRT replacement, I actually have a broken 33 inch 4:3 CRT TV, that would be amazing if I could drop two of the 33-inch panels inside (for the OLED blacks & contrast etc) with an GBS-C as the controller board, this will only be worth it if they are at minimum 120Hz though, as LCD 60Hz is just too painful to use for vid games, and this would mean you can use rolling-scan (Blur Buster CRT beam emulation), this along with a nice high-res dot-trio mask should give me a really nice large 4:3 display, that would also be amazing for watching full-frame 4:3 video on (Snyder Cut or Buffy for instance). Then again, I like the idea of fixing the CRT by installing an arcade driver board (chassis), if I can find one for a 33" tube size, but it's cool to have the option.

RRGB Weekly Roundup
@kjetilfrugard83955 күн бұрын
I think these LCD-monitors could be a nice alternative to old consumer CRT's. Not everyone want to play retro games on 65" displays in their living room. These LCD screens are more in line with the original CRT sizes these games were meant to be played on anyways. They will take up much less space than a CRT, and with a good scanline filter, I bet they can look quite good. Could be perfect for plenty of people who wants to play their old retro consoles, MiSTer, Switch Arcade Archive/NSO/retro compilations, Evercade, etc. With a nice rotating stand, they would be perfect for games in tate mode as well.

Great recap video Bob! Quick question that hopefully you might know or know who would. I had someone do that 3DO rgb mod with that kit and it looks great! I happen to have the Japanese model that already has the 240/480i switch which is nice. So one side effect to the rgb mod to my 3do is that it has shifted the picture a decent amount to the left. Like the life bar on a character from Samurai Shodown is all the way to the left hitting the edge. Do you know how this is fixed and/ or who could fix it? The colors and picture look great but that offset is just too much.
@RetroRGB3 күн бұрын
That’s a great question. I honestly don’t remember if there’s a fix for that though :( Maybe check some forums or discord servers where people do those installs and see what they say ?

Hi. Will we have an EDFX with FPGA in the future that allows a composite color palette? 🙏
@RetroRGB5 күн бұрын
It’s possible, but it would be really expensive. To the point that it would be more cost effective to get a MiSTer. But we’ll see!
@Fellipe2k55 күн бұрын
@@RetroRGBThanks Bob! I'm very tempted to buy EDFX but as import taxes in Brazil are increasing more and more, I'm waiting for a possible version that has this functionality. One thing I don't know if it's possible is via software through Everdrive Pro
@Izquierda5 күн бұрын
@@RetroRGB For original hardware purists, it would be worth it! Right now the only such option is the Terraonion device, which gives you the correct colors via RGB but tied to bad audio, bugs and inaccuracies, and other stuff you don't need if you already have a TED Pro and for a much higher price.
@StrokedGT4 күн бұрын
Best choice if you can do the mod is Zaxour's turbonanza, you'll get the correct palette through S-video which is really close to RGB, and stereo sound with the everdrive pro.
@Izquierda4 күн бұрын
@@StrokedGT Yeah, I already have a couple of Turbonanza'd consoles, but a portable RGB solution would be nice to use on any consoles and fit it more neatly into RGB setups. It'd be a nice bonus if they could throw serration pulses into the sync to avoid flagging problems on certaom monitors/input cards (which composite and s-video from the turbonanza can also have).

I have ordered Atari Karts! Other than the graphics, it's not that comparable to SNES Mario Kart as it is mostly a racing game, whereas Mario Kart is more about combat and item use.

The Arcooda monitors look super cool, but unfortunately I'm a sicko, so I want a high-refresh OLED so I can inject HDR and do wacky stuff like BFI and strobe emulation.

Those arcade monitors also have me thinking it would be cool to see some one rig up a Pi, or a FPGA dev board, or something to set it up one as a DIY smart tv without all the bloat. Have all the inputs you want plus a media center and apps, and then custom settings for inputs from retro consoles that dont ruin the image.

14:30. I've spent the last week testing loading games from the MCP2. Other than a few translation hacks, everything I've thrown at it has worked as good or better than the MC2SIO. I have a PS2 Slim so it's really the simplest option. I would highly recommend SanDisk Extreme over Ultra as some earlier issues I had were due to a much older SanDisk ultra card. It may have just been my card, but others recommended the A2 cards over the A1. The Prince of Persia intro FMV cut scene stutters on the mcp2 and MC2SIO Overall, it's a fantastic way to use an "ODE" for PS2. The new webui for the MCP2 looks amazing as well.
@Izquierda5 күн бұрын
Prince of Persia intro FMV likely does not stutter when loaded via internal disk drive+network adapter. Especially if read times are set properly on OPL (or using Neutrino).
@rentoptional15245 күн бұрын
@@Izquierda interesting. What is it about PoP that makes it prone to stutter more than most games
@CompletelyAverageGameplay5 күн бұрын
@@rentoptional1524 I saw this commented elsewhere, so don't take it as gospel but I believe it has to do with the way PoP streams its FMVs from the disc. The throughput from the memory card slot isn't as high as the disc drive and/or an internal HDD.
@rentoptional15245 күн бұрын
@@CompletelyAverageGameplay makes sense. Yeah, some games FMVs work just fine. PoP is notoriously bad though. It probably streams directly from the disc vs using some sort of buffer and loading screens.

Did you get a chance to test FreeMCBoot as well? Tito's video seems to show it cold-booting successfully, which official sources say it can't, and which resulted in a faulty boot when I tried it (first thing to get shown on the screen after black is the memory card browser showing nothing, and it doesn't recognize the MCP2 until a reboot).

I mean, it’s all about context. You can get a cheap new 16:9 LCD for around $125 and a RetroTINK 5x for $325. But you can’t connect original arcade boards without a supergun. And it won’t fit in an existing arcade cab. And it’s not 4:3. …so this is absolutely not a budget solution. But in the context of arcade cabs, the price is fine.
