I’m finding these slow stitching videos in Sept. 2024 but I’ve started at the beginning, in January making my way to catch up. Watching 1 or more videos a week, I am enjoying watching and learning. As you were writing “our home, planet earth”. It brought up a sweet memory of my oldest grandson, who will be 24 years old in Nov. He was 6 years old when his brother was born and when he met him the first time, he said “welcome to Earth”!

What a sweet story about your memories of your Dad and his shirts. Picking up pieces that belonged to loved ones does tug at the heart strings. After my Mom died, I had a lap quilt of Friendship Stars that she had pieced and was quilting but never finished. It was five years before I could pick up that quilt and finish it but I am so glad I did. Thank you again for your lovely work and presence.

I am ready finally to get started on this project. First I decided to organize my scrappy fabrics into a pile of strips, so that I didn't spend so much time loving each scrappy piece. All of my larger pieces are now in another container. I can't get enough of your videos. I am picking up some of your expressions and your wittering puts a voice to some of my thoughts as I stitch. Thank you for letting us into your life and sharing your beautiful artsy talent.

Still never seen an episode of Friends lol. I had a TV in the house when my kids were young, for the educational programming and movies from the library that they would watch time and again. Other than that, I haven't owned a TV my entire adult life. I do adore KZbin, however, because I get to pick and choose what gets projected into my head.

Love to hear you going on about the universe. I'm fascinated about is since I'm a child. My grandfather told me all about it. That there is something out there which is endless, with no borders. During that time I lwas growing up in the GDR, so it was like a dream to me. I couldn't picture anything with no borders. I still find that difficult. Later in my life I read the books of Stephen Hawking and I watched films and documentaries about space. And I also learned that people are fearful about the idea how small the earth is in comparison to the infinity of the universe. And that the universe is still expanding. My mother in law is one of those. But now I just burst out laughing: "WD40'"😂😂 That is so funny!! We always have it in the house(like everybody in NL) because my husband cannot stand any door or chair squeaking. So he would fix it right away. By the way in German it is "Kartoffel". The prussian King Friederich der Grosse, introduced the potato, to avoid a famine. People still honour him by laying potatoes on his grave in Potsdam. Hartelijke groeten, Helene
@k3n.clothtales
@k3n.clothtales 6 ай бұрын
Thank you Helene , that's so moving about your time in GDR. I was at university when the wall came down and my landlady was from GDR, she had been taken to England as a child but many of her family were still there. We watched on TV together and I have never seen such raw emotion in another person. At one point, she put her apron that she always wore over her face because she just couldn't deal with the emotions. ❤️

I can Imagine how it must have felt for your landlady, seeing the impossible on TV. My parents told me the day after(I was ten years old at the time) and I’m still mad, that they didn’t wake me up, to witness it live. But since then, my life is split in before and after. It had a bigger impact on my life, than me moving to NL, when I was 22.

Hello! I have been laughing at you while sewing, when you said the sea is lighter at the front, and I shouted no! I grew up in Guernsey and the sea often looked darker at the front near the sand as it was full of Vraic (Seaweed, normally used for manure for potatoes) I do love watching you - when I walk the dogs, we make sure to pass the hidden treasure patiently waiting for collection, and Dexter has only peed on it once :) = thanks for all you do to lighten my life xx

Hello Kathryn, I now have a note book beside me while watching you , to write down all the interesting whitterings, otherwise I can’t keep them in my brain. Potato in different languages reminded me of my former job with a ferry company , I knew the word ‘empty’ in many languages to ask the truck drivers about their cargo. Third Rock from the Sun is a wonderful series, I may try Friends as haven’t watched that. Thank you for another beautiful Monday stitching.

"...on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam." Wow. And the rest of Sagan's quote is so apt right now. How long did you not wash that hand for? 😍 Friends was huge for us as my daughter watched the very first episode, predicted it would be huge and then got cross when it did because it was 'hers'. We especially loved Eddie (who watched Chandler sleep). Your work on Pinterest is gorgeous - the colours!!! Well done for getting four pieces in that prestigious book - amazing. Thank you Mary, I remember Eddie. There were some great characters aside from the main ones. I also loved the celebrity cameos, Robin Williams and Billy Crystal was a highlight, apparently it was unplanned and improvised, also Brad Pitt and his hatred for Rachel, the irony of course that they were married in real life. My daughter knows all the background and fills us in as we watch. 😁♥️

I did as a child love to watch Tennis played on the lawns. Then this side of the pond in school so irritated playing tennis on hard courts in cages. I would have loved to have played on lawns and utterly dreamy in my mind it was barefoot. So enjoyed your chatter today, such a variety of topics! Who knew this science side of you existed. Your series of 21 space quilts in a traveling exhibit, with a guide book to boot, deserves a congratulations and bravo! I used to make quilts, and exhibited some,. Two were inspired by early 19th C quilts (opposite of your style) and traveled in a juried exhibit but I was only able to see photos! I found living on the west coast to be a disadvantage with everything quilt history oriented happening on the northern east coast with gusto and regularity. I made trips back there fairly often but it's not the same thing. I agree with you that we fall in and out of methods and ways of working with fabric. I think I'm the only person in the US who never watched Friends. I didn't own a TV for years as I was immersed in my studies, and never got the bug. Thanks for another enjoyable visit online today. It was pretty darn close to being there!

Thank you, oh yes the science, I wasn't that interested at school, it was taught very kind of coldly and matter of fact and in isolation from reality. Hard to explain, hope you know what I mean. 😁 But as an adult I have grown to see the beauty and the wonder of the natural world through science. It's lovely to have your work exhibited, I like the sound of your quilts. ♥️

@@k3n.clothtales I agree with you. Once we can see the benefit of applied science research, or whatever the subject matter, it's way more fun to consider than the high school version we're taught. Some of your quilts looked quite like images from space.

Hi k3n I have stitched along today and really enjoyed it thank you. I have to just say even though it won’t be popular, I hate Friends 😮only watched one once, just not my cup of tea. I’m quite envious of the fact that you are able to show your previous exhibition work, but at the same time happy to be privileged to see it. I’m useless at posting on Instagram and Pinterest and as I’m not on Facebook nobody sees my work. But never mind it is what it is. I’m looking forward to Wonky Wednesday but have a lot to catch up on! Love your wittering x❤😊

Oh I am so bad for sticking my needles anywhere except the pin cushion 😂 my people aka family and friends all know to stay away from my sewing/crafting chair unless they want to get stabbed! I would also walk around with needles in my pants on the lap area. 😅 since I have become a baba I have developed the habit to check my clothing when I get up so I don't stab anyone when I get the Littles hugs! The biscon pin cushions are helping to keep my needles where they should be so thank you k3n!

Oh, gosh! Maybe I ought to stop periodically to respond to your comments. :-) I can't even remember it all. BUT my granddaughter, who turned 8 on Saturday, is fantastic at remembering and telling jokes. My favourite of hers makes me chuckle and smile every time I hear her voice (still saying w's insteads of r's) in my head: "What is wed and can bweak youhr teeth? A bwick!" I don't generally like violent anything, but this one tickles me, which my mother used to say. Anyway... yes to Carl Sagan; I can't hear your squeaking chair or telephoning husband but wouldn't mind if I did; I will definitely look at your series on Pinterest, as it sounds wonderful; I watch everything on my laptop because I can use my headphones to hear better. Ok, all done. Thank you for another lovely Monday morning. Enjoy your week, k3n.

I am talking and laughing back to you out loud during this video Kathryn, just too many reactions to write down all at once, it’s getting crazy out here in my house! Just the other day i told my son that the thought of how small we are in the entire universe makes me humble and helps me not feel so important all the time (as we people seem to think we are) so hearing you say that in your words resulted in an out loud ‘Nooooo….., yesssss!!’ Sort of exclamation. I find watching series with my son way more fun and interesting (currently the big bang theory) than when i did at the time they were coming out. So yes to Friends, Fresh prince of Bell Air, Sex Education (oh my!😮), Vikings, Peaky Blinders etc. I am still hoping Fame will have a re -run. My son has the habit of imitating all the characters so i sometimes feel like i live in a sit come / action series😅. Anyway, love this piece Kathryn, and the ones you showed us. 21…..wow. How long did it take you to make that whole series?🍀💖

Thank you Machteld, the series took about a year, on and off, a lot of the construction was machine stitched. If I did it all by hand it would have taken a lifetime. 😂 We also love the Big Bang Theory, I would love to see Fame again, that was in my college days and we were all into Amateur Dramatics and walked around in leg warmers with our toes turned out! That dates me 😂❤️

I’ve been watching this in bits before work all week - great way to start the day - and I just got to the question “does anyone else tell themselves jokes and make themselves laugh?” Well, my brother and I were super close growing up and even though we live far away now - or maybe because we live far away - when we see each other we spend a lot of time still in that childhood place of really stooooopid humor that only we understand and laugh at, leaving the rest of the family quite perplexed (and I’m sure annoyed, though they are too gracious to say - still, I see the occasional eye roll). So I don’t tell jokes to myself. When I say silly things, in my head I automatically think how my brother would react. And then I just get the flat out giggles - can’t stop. Is it weirder to laugh at your own jokes or to have a thing going in your head with someone 1500 miles away? Life is short. Make yourself (and your invisible sibling) laugh!!
@k3n.clothtales
@k3n.clothtales 6 ай бұрын
I don't know which is weirder, is there an agreed scale of weirdness and if so, who decided? And what criteria did they apply? And am I weird for wondering? And if so, how weird? 🤔😁 I am an only child but I have a very good friend of many years and we are like that, same silly humour. I don't do it with as anyone else in the same way but the minute we are together, silliness ensues, we are laughing like drains and anyone around us is eye rolling 😂

I often track the time I need for certain pieces by the shows I'm watching while sewing and so I have projects that I internally named 'Dodgers spring training', 'Santa Clarita Diet' and (a rather large piece) 'Narcos 1-3 rewatch' 😂 It's certainly not the most accurate time tracking though, because when it comes to sports I still like to watch with at least half an eye^^
