If you enjoy ice fishing it's very similar in a lot of ways to fly fishing. It's alot of cat and mouse games trying to get them in for the bite and you can physically watch the fish come up and bite your bait or lure. It's really fun. I'd recommend any fisherman to try it. But like anything, it's an endless rabbit hole of knowledge to take in to become good at it 😅

I love my mini speedgoat for fishing. Weather im on the river bank or out on the boat on canyon ferry the speedgoat is always with me. If its not on my person then it lays beside my truck gun.

In response to your answer to my comment, It's not about edge retention but about the initial grind out of the factory being off. Magnacut is known for its edge retention so that has nothing to do with the grind. I have no issue with retention. I thought with my Speedgoat being only ground on one side halfway from the handle that you grind them that way. But now I see it is a flaw.

Great vid. I appreciate a blog on Fly Fishing. But...I hate to put a wrench in things. I have purchased 2 of their knives…Speedgoat and Mini Speedgoat. Both are Magnacut Stainless Steel. They are slightly more expensive than my other over 100 knives. Pros: Very sharp from the factory. Great slicers due to the thinness of the stock. As a fly fisherman, I appreciate that they are stainless steel. Cons: Although they are sharp, the cutting edges on both knives I received are very uneven. As a matter of fact, I had to send my Mini Speedgoat back to be replaced because the edge was so uneven it wasn’t going to last long and needed to be reprofiled. In my personal opinion, I think if MKC is going to keep selling their knives at such a high price they really need to put more time, training, and effort into their process and Quality Control to ensure a better and more precise product. The edges are uneven and definitely not consistent on both sides of the blades cutting edges I received. By comparison, 99% of my other knives are even on both sides of the cutting edge. They may not be the sharpest but that can be remedied very easily. But if the edge is uneven then in most cases it will need to be reprofiled. I am not an expert, but a concerned purchaser of MKC knives.

Thanks for your comment man - sorry to hear the edge was not to your liking, this is a pretty rare occurrence as 99% of folks do not have any issues with theirs. If you read our reviews many of them are about how great our edge retention is. That said - should you choose to you can send them in and we can take care of it through our Generations program 👊🇺🇸
