You forgot about Lila as one of the Umbrella Academy kids. The original number of pregnant women/subsequent super babies in season 1 was 43 (Umbrellas + unadopted Sparrows + Lila + 29 unknowns) , but for some reason in the season 3 timeline its stated to be only 16, and...... ***SPOILERS*** ...most of the OG squad shouldn't be included in that 16 because Harlan killed their mothers before they were born, so really that 16 was only the Sparrows + maybe an alt timeline Lila + 8 unknowns. But now the universe has been reset so who even knows how many exist in this new timeline.

Thinking of the Green Hornet movie makes me sad - after the success of Kung Fu Hustle, Stephen Chow was set to make the jump to Hollywood by directing and starring as Kato, but after a terrible time with the studio he dropped out. Chow found the whole ordeal so depressing that he kind of gave up on being in movies all together, at what should have been the height of his career.

There's a very cool arc for Kraven in the Squirrel Girl comics. As she so often does, she befriends him while fighting him and puts in some energy into reforming him. It doesn't always work. But in that arc, he's very much a protector of wildlife, which isn't totally inconsistent. There are people who hunt and are environmental activist. But if you don't see Kraven the villain first, reformed Kraven is no fun. (He calls her "girl of squirrels".)

Something I adore about The Umbrella Academy is how it kinda takes the same angle as The Boys, in that it has messy and flawed superheroes (albeit in a censored/light-hearted kinda way). BUT it also doesn't go so far as "yeah they're evil, power makes everyone evil... everyone is just shit". Like it kinda strikes a nice balance between the whole dark "power corrupts" view and the "people are ultimately good, just flawed". Also yeah, the way they've represented Viktor's transition and Klaus' general queerness is perfect, like they have definitely put care and consideration into the way non-cishet people are represented. Like when someone comes out to siblings, we do just want them to go "yeah we love you but we're still gonna bully you about xyz because you're my sibling and you're a moron". Basically: no one uses Viktor's identity as a weapon (like using a deadname in an argument) ... 4am essay-rant over jdksdjask
@rubaiyat300
@rubaiyat300 2 жыл бұрын
First off, completely agreed on the strengths of The Umbrella Academy. I really liked how it was a plot point and addressed but it came from a place of love and acceptance. My problem with the Boys, though moreso the source material, is we already have a classification for what they almost all are, supervillains. IE comics have already detailed for the better part of a century what some would do with these wondrous abilities that could help the world. It's not some grand revelation or incisive critique on superhero media or even the human condition. Well, other than telling on yourself about how you think you'd turn completely psychotic if you got superabilities. Heck, the BACKLASH to this kinda of deconstruction is already going on more than 30 years old, ie the ending to Grant Morrison's Animal Man and all the Alan Moore Superman related apologies. The show is a pretty well put together product, but IDK if it's as smart as it or the uninitiated think it is. Like it's a take that at all kinds of shady corporate sliminess but it's superhero media slamming superhero media made by a conglomerate that otherwise doesn't have superhero media.

Big game hunting is actually an important tool in conservation
@cdubsoptional7849
@cdubsoptional7849 2 жыл бұрын
TR was the original conservationist, but if you go to Sagamore Hill, you can see that in his office, he had a waste bin made out of an elephants foot. Buy all the indulgences you want, try to offset your sins with all the good deeds you can think of. But at the end of the day, it's not ok to fly to Africa on vacation, so you can murder the toughest animals in the world. Don't get me wrong, I'm not some bleeding heart. Every week, I transform thousands of slaughtered animal carcasses into lunch and dinner. And as much as I love biodiversity, I don't blame downtrodden, poverty stricken people, for killing dangerous apex predators that threaten their lives, and then selling the carcass to practitioners of traditional "_" medicine. I have sympathy for poachers. They actually have legitimately good reasons to do what they do, even if it's awful. Whereas anyone who identifies as a "big game hunter," is an asshole. If you fly to another continent just to kill things, you're an asshole. And no amount of good works/conservation work will ever negate/counterbalance that.

@@ThreadBomb They actively manage thousand acre preserves where the hunting is allowed. Tags for hunting are issued for animals that are old or aggressive or competing for resources or to maintain balance of predators to prey any other population management tactics that are practiced outside of big game hunting. The money from the tags can be tens of thousands per animal and is directly reinvested into the preserves and local communities. Part of that includes security that cuts down on illegal and unregulated poaching, giving them further control over the biodiversity of the preserve. It’s actually a great example of utilizing natural resources in the 21st century. The hunters get their trophies but those local communities eat that antelope that they have hunted for millennial anyway. But now they have money for roads and water and internet too.

My past self wished to conduct a test to see if I could enjoy a future season of Umbrella Academy without watching the ones leading up to it. At the time, I only watched the first two episodes and the final scene of season one, and completely skipped over season two. As I watched the current season, while I didn't understand every story beat related to Five's and Lila's connection to the Commission, it did not detract from my enjoyment of it as a whole, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. I do feel that the characters seem to refrain from using their powers in certain situations they would probably be useful. Additionally, while I get that COVID would have affected the show's production in terms of locations and extras, does the story always feel like it's taking place in a bubble with very few regular people outside the main cast that actually populate the world (and I'm not talking about the effects of the Kugelblitz)?

I saw Snake Eyes in the movie theatre after the *terrible* Black Widow movie. Let me tell you, Snake Eyes was "Citizen Kane" compared to Black Widow. It's the "Crazy Rich Asians" of action movies!! After watching it for the third time, I noticed they are riding 100% Electric Motorcycles in the movie. I think vanya was done terribly. There's no way you instantly start saying he and Victor I know many people whove changed and you are so used to saying the other way you cant help but slip up. I think they should of had a few slip ups to make it more realistic

If you have known a man called Brandon your whole life and now they are suddenly Beatrice and a woman its hard for friends and family to adapt to saying Beatrice instead of Brandon. Hated this season of Umbrella Academy. It was way too long, the plot got way too convoluted at the end, we got barely any time with the new characters and our old characters did such a 180 on their traits. Allison was awful and the fact that she is the only one that gets everything she wanted pisses me off to such a degree. She literally SA's Luther and killed a defenseless old man.

I have a hard time watching shows. Currently, I'm stomaching The Lincoln Lawyer, because I'm watching it with someone I love, and they love it. But all I see is the scaffolding. A lot of the scenes are shot in a way that makes it obvious that the actors didn't do the scene together. The cinematography is irritating. Everything but the focus of the shot is blurry. I get that it's on purpose, and they're trying to create atmosphere or what have you, but it doesn't work, it's just annoying. Then there's the fact that it takes place in LA, but there's no gridlocked traffic, there are no homeless people or tent cities, and there's no smog. The subplot about addiction does not feel authentic, it feels like pandering. All that said, there are some diamond in the rough moments where I find myself smiling, nodding my head, and saying to myself: "Yes! That's how you do it!" And by the fifth or sixth episode, these moments start to predominate. The scaffolding is still there, but the rest of the show is starting to surpass it, and now it's earned my suspension of disbelief. But I only stuck with it because my Mom loves it. I watched some of the first episode on my own, and thought it was trash. So instead I binged a bunch of Days Gone By videos with people fighting hordes modded to be 1,000 freakers strong. I also have a personal library of at least two thousand books, and I have book marks in at least 30 of them. And then I just bought The Last King of America by Andrew Roberts, and it's over 9,000 pages but I'm already loving it, so everything else is on hold, except for my youtube fix. But I kid you not, this book about King George III is so good, that I've started taking it with me to the toilet. I still bring my tablet, just in case, but this dense, uncomfortable to hold book is so fascinating, well written, and carefully crafted, that I am willing to prioritize it. I work 50 to 60 hours a week, and my days off are rarely concurrent. I have so many books to read, and so much high grade content from channels like this, that I don't have enough time to view/listen to/digest. All of which is to say, I took one look at Umbrella Academy when it first dropped, and said no thanks. I don't have time to waste on yet another show or movie or whatever about yet another batch of beautiful people with super powers, but no calluses. I don't care about your superpowers. Do you have the power to show up on time? Do you have the power to work multiple 14 hour shifts in a row, and be on your feet the whole time? Or are you just another loser with xray vision or superspeed? That said, for someone who owns thousands of books, I am still so ready to judge any and every proverbial book by its proverbial cover. The show is probably awesome, but I think my reasons for dismissing it, are still valid.

@@_Amit_Sunil Don't get me started on Wendy's. Have you ever worked a 12+ hour shift, and then stopped at Wendy's otw home? Have you ever been physically and mentally broken down to the point where all pretense and falsehood has been stripped away, and the quivering mess that remains is who you are? And after experiencing this complete demolition of your soul, have you gone to a Wendy's, to try to find some comfort? If so, how did it go? Personally, I had a crap time. In my hour of need, I went to Wendy's, seeking succour and comfort. Instead, what I got was cold fries, and I will never forgive or forget that slight.

@@StewartFletcher idk he gets pretty defensive and egotistical as well. His perspective has a place in being CONSIDERED, but he's not a fine enough mind to take every word he says as fact. We all speak from not only our own experiences but from edited experiences we pick up second handedly. There's no reason to deny the existence of more than 2 genders as a legitimate predisposed bio/psychological experience. There's no reason to eat only red meat. There's no reason to shout in a Hitler cadence as often as he does lol. Just make sure you have a well populated archive of perspectives on world events. My only problem with Homelander is how ham fisted the Trump satire is getting. As a non-American I was getting sick of all the lazy Trump commentary while the guy was still in office, nevermind 2 years after he got voted out. It's one thing to allude to him through similar actions but Homelander directly quoting Trump feels like it might be going too far. I just prefer my political satire to be subtle. They have Homelander on not-fox news ranting about conspiracy theories like Trump did (even though Homelander actually does have conspirators but whatever). What's next, are they going to slap some orange paint on his face? Is homelander going to kill someone because they call his hands small? I'm unsure about how far they're going to take him. For the record I still really enjoy every Homelander scene and the actor who plays him. Every scene is really tense because you never know if he's going to snap and kill someone right then and there. I'm just worried they're going to turn him into a full blown Super Trump.
