Belly dancing originated from Egypt but it's become culturally significant to middle eastern countries including lebanon (where her fathers from) If you listen to her music, you'll notice a lot of middle Eastern influences

Shakira is an Arabic name, she has Lebanese roots from her father's side, and from her mother's side she has Spanish roots (from Cataluña, the Barcelona region), but she was born and raised in Colombia. This kind of "mixture" is not rare in Latin America, the Americas is a territory built by migration, you can find so many people with this kind of roots... in my case, just to give you an example, I was born in Chile, but my father is Palestinian and my mother is chilean, but with Croatian and Spanish parents...

yall definitely did a bit of research about the song such as haiti and colombia...the song came out in 2006 i mean youtube was not really the platform like it is now back then so it actually would have gotten more views....gotta give some props to wyclef, wyclef is such an underated rapper and producer...he is definitely one of the hiphop ogs that people not know...he was really famous in early 90s to 2010s untill he decided to devote himself to his country and was almost got assasinated for going against the government...man we need another shakira wyclef jean song right now

hi, im from Colombia too as far a i know, the costumes and the scenes where are bunch of people dancing is inspired by the Carnaval de Barranquilla, one of the most important carnivals of Latinamerica which takes place at the city where Shakira grew up the spanish phrase she sings says "en Barranquilla se baila así (in Barranquilla we dance like this)", and in fact haha at the minute 2:08 the background colours are the colombian flag

No, belly dancing is not from India or Pakistan, it's from the Middle East, it's been practiced for many decades. And yes, Lebanon is in the Middle East and Shakira''s father is Lebanese, although she doesn't speak arabic (which is the language spoken in Lebanon), she has always shown pride of her middle eastern roots too, she eats arabic food, she loves some arabic singers, she has covered some iconic arabic songs, she has a lot of songs with middle eastern influence and she has visited and played in many parts of the Middle East, even in the Pyramids of Giza. She has always shown her connection to the middle eastern culture through her belly dancing, even before she crossed over to the anglo market, when she was only singing in Spanish, she had middle eastern influenced songs and used to belly dance too. Although Hips Don't Lie is mostly an homage to Colombia and Colombian culture, it has a ton of influence from Colombian music, etc., it's also a signature Shakira song and represents her middle eastern side too, I mean, it's a song about her hips, she belly dances and when she performs it she always does the zaghrouta. About the Caribbean thing, I mean, while Colombia isn't technically part of the Caribbean 'cause it's in mainland south America, Shakira's hometown "Barranquilla" is actually in the coast to the Caribbean Sea so it actually has some of it in its culture too. For example there are some games called the "Central American and Caribbean Games" in which Colombia participates too, they were even hosted in Shakira's hometown Barranquilla in 2018 and she performed there. The costumes you see in the video are inspired in Barranquilla's carnival.

This was the last #1 on a long running TV chart show here in the UK called Top of the Pops and oh boy, people were not happy. It didn't bowl anybody over, at least not the ones who grew up with the show or were with it from the early years. I can't remember if they were even in studio to perform this, to send the show out, they only showed this music video and wrapped up. Just a flat, bland end to what the show was and a whimper to the decades it was on air. That being said, I like the song regardless!
