The Diner is the legendary Pan Pan that was on the corner of 135th and Lennox Avenue, across the street from Harlem Hospital in Manhattan. It burned down, and the space is still vacant. They sold great Soul and Chinese food. I miss it. 😢 I used to get the fish and grits and the chicken and waffles. Fun Fact -Alicia does a lot of her videos in Harlem around 135 and Columbia University -Most of her videos feature a rapper-Mos Def is in this one. She has also had Method Man and Common in her other videos

The Diner scenes were shot at Pan Pan (RIP Pan Pan) which was located in Harlem, NY (uptown Manhattan). Pan Pan burned down 20 years ago (probably not long after this video was filmed😮). The party scenes where the fight broke out and the China cabinet crashed down were inspired by the classic (and criminally underrated) film Cooley High, which if you get a chance, you should really watch.

I stayed in Harlem for a few months back in 2000, right across from Pan Pan. The food was so good. When i heard they burned own a few years later, I almost cried.

Speaking as someone born and raised in NYC, and having worked in Harlem (uptown Manhattan) for years, when Alicia mentioned "39th & Lenox" it's not literally 39th. I'm quite certain she's referring to 139th St & Lenox Ave. Most ppl from the city rarely say the whole name/number when referring any street that far uptown lol
