That's what I kept thinking! Everyone kept saying Dewey might be better at golf than Scrooge this episode, but he isn't - he's better at minigolf! Dewey's way of playing only works against this particular course, in general Scrooge's way is more typical of a golfer.

Instead, we've had to deal with evil space clowns and shapeshifting psurlons (hard to describe... Google it and you'll see the images 😅). And now, of course, Gothic horrors like vampires and werewolves and zombies (oh, my!).

Love the little "My Little Pony" references. Not only are the Kelpies voiced by Tara Strong (Twilight Sparkle) and Andrea Libman (Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy) and are the roughly same colors as Twilight and Pinkie, the episode ended with a life lesson (possibly two lessons, if you count "Don't eat golf balls").

That was too dumb." (paraphrasing) Launchpad will pretty much always be dumb, but that was their we-can't-let-him-be-this-dumb moment.

8:03 Never underestimate the lengths Dewey will go to for a badge. This episode is a real highlight of season one for me. The kelpies are one of my favorite monsters-of-the-week (and Tara Strong/Miss Minutes!) This might have been the episode where I began to turn the corner on Glomgold - at first I didn't much care for him but his absolute absurdity slowly won me over.

The first season has some great recurring villains. Keep an eye on Glomgold - he's much more devious than he appears. When he gets the the Beagle Boys to rob the vault while distracting our heroes with magical enemies like the kelpies and heel-turn Lena - just wonderful. Donald battling the kelpies in the ocean was my favorite - really pays off his backstory in the navy (not that anyone can understand what he says about his career).

Scrooge 's attitude with this reminds me of why my older brother quit golf, He wanted someone to go to the driving range to hit against and me his younger sister beat him big time, he stopped playing after that. FYI I am only 5 feet tall and at the time slightly overweight I guess since he was playing for close to 6 years he thought he could win.

Launchpad trying to eat the golf balls slays me. And you haven't yet seen the depths of his stupidity or the heights of his heroism, so there's that. The Kelpies also got me, because of the voice actors and performances, but also when I was a kid I had a bunch of the Time-Life Enchanted World books, and that's where I learned about kelpies. I figured maybe IRL they were a cautionary tale to teach people not to try to climb onto strange horses. But real kelpies? Seem like the easiest of the fairies to avoid. I assume their victims were mostly drunk, because I can't imagine too many sober people thinking a wild horse, wet mane or not, is going to be cool with some rando climbing on and expecting a ride. Some sort of forest maiden who secretly has a tail or hooves or a hollow back? I'm gonna fall for that every time, but no matter how drunk I get, I think I can mark myself safe from damp murder ponies.

I hope this has been good enough to consider watching the original. It's a different vibe since it's so old, but I am curious if it holds up. It actually had an equally successful spin off called Darkwing Duck that was really good too. Aw, I bet you would love Talespin too. This stuff is just pure nostalgia for me. Talespin is one of the most criminally slept on 90's American cartoons. There's a lot of humor, but there was some really compelling serious moments too. It was really wholesome.
