I say this after every season but i am blown away how steve and reece sell the chemistry between characters! In a short 30minute show they convice us so well with relations and bonds between actors its just so impressive! They make it look so easy!!
@WeeLin2 ай бұрын
It takes a lot to pull that off in 30 minutes, but they are incredible writers and actors who get to work with other incredible actors, directors, producers, editors - each episode comes together so well, and yes, they're making it look too easy at this point!

I think it's so hard to rank Plodding On, it was an absolutely perfect ending to the show and a well deserved victory lap but you can't really compare it properly to any other episode. At least it's given us a definitive answer to the question "what is the worst episode to watch first if you are just starting Inside No 9?" lol

This was a top series overall with an excellent last episode considering it was THE last episode. Trolley problem was my least favourite, the other 5 can swap places depending on the day. This Series really fell into the top tier quality of some of my favourite series of the show, those being 2,3,5 and 7. The ones that really push the boat out most in terms of experimenting with the format. Series 9 felt like a real guns a blazing send off in comparison to the pretty box standard Series 8 (all just my opinion). The episode quality was also damn strong this time. Trolley Problem was the only episode I wasn’t too fussed on. The rest range from really solid to top tier. Here’s my ranking: 1) Plodding On 2) Mulberry Close 3) Boo To A Goose 4) CTRL/ALT/ESC 5) The Curse of the Ninth 6) The Trolley Problem As for other things I’ve been watching, there was the recent season of Doctor Who airing alongside No.9. Movie wise, some recent viewings of note include the Mad Max franchise and classic Planet of the Apes films, as well as some golden oldies like Singin in the Rain and 12 Angry Men, the latter of which is mandatory viewing for any No.9 fan

I’m sort of surprised Series 9 ended up mostly fairly low on my overall series ranking - CTR ALT ESC in the top 25, Curse of the Ninth and Plodding On in the top 30, though I really liked all three. For me my rankings are worst 6 the trolly problem 5 curse of the ninth 4 plodding on "mainly as a stand alone episode it was kinda meh its only cus it served as the final to number 9 that made it special if you remove all the number 9 references the 4th wall breaky stuff and make the story more or less the same but about fictional characters rather than Steve and Reece its kind of forgettable as a stand alone story." 3 boo to a goose 2 mulberry close best 1 ctr alt escape it seams your rankings was kind of the same as mine. i will say ctr alt escape is probably in my top 5 number 9s of all time not above 12 days of Christiane and Bernie Clifton's dressing room but its not far off. and the trolly problem is probs near the bottom not as low as that referee, and the winner is, silent ocastra and the balloon one but again not far off. ill be honest as well even my least favourite episodes there's probs only 2 i actually hate and thats that referee cus football bores me to tears and and the winner is cus it was kind of pointless and unfunny. only 2 episodes that i really didnt like is honestly a testament to how good number 9 was if even the lowest episodes are still enjoyable.
@WeeLin2 ай бұрын
I always say that the "weakest" No 9s were probably still the best thing on telly that week. The Referee surprised me by how much I wasn't bored or lost (I don't like football), and I liked Last Gasp but I can see the flaws in the pacing/writing. And The Winner Is made me laugh, but if the humour doesn't land then there's not too much else going for it I suppose. 12 Days/Bernie Clifton would be among my favourites too!

A quick suggestion of stuff you could do next besides more number 9 videos. black mirror ik its kinda been done to death on yt at this point but i would be curios to see your take on some of the episodes epsiecly demon 79 since tbh that felt like a number 9 to me but not set in a single room. and another anthology i was recommended a while ago called room 104 witch dose feel like number 9 expect every single episode "with the slight exception of 1" takes place in a hotel room but the story's are very different and i think this is a series that hasnt been covered very much so might make for a interesting summary series.

(SPOILERS) My ranking would go: 6. The trolley problem: not all that memorable on retrospect honestly, Steve and Reece were on point as always but I tend to like The episodes when Steve and Reece interact with other actors the most. 5. CTRL/ALT/ESC: Coma twists often leave me rolling my eyes, while it wasn't awful and was still written well to me it still felt tired and cliched. 4. Mulberry Close: Found the ending a little hard to digest in all honesty but the ending gag made the whole thing worth while. 3. Plodding On: Probably the best possible way to end the show as they couldn't really resolve any plot points since this was an anthology show, It could've easily come across as self indulgent but the writing for both the characters of Steve and Reece gives them a level of realistic selfish humanity that ended up going a long ways. Also can't turn my nose up at a gratuitous Mark Gatiss cameo. 2. Curse of the Ninth: I really liked this one, It remined me of films like The Old Dark House (1932) and other 30s horror flicks that I greatly enjoy. I was also impressed with the cinematography as well, although I felt that it maybe should of been in black and white to more capture the classic and gothic horror I felt they were deriving from but that doesn't detract anything from the episode. 1. Boo to a Goose: Really great start to a new season as I'm sure everyone can agree. I felt that this episode is very pertinent to the times that we live in now as bystander effect and the idea of "anything for a quiet life" is becoming a massive issue in my opinion, I also appreciated its approach to the idea of people who were once opinionated and would fight for what they saw as right mellowing down and becoming complaisant and boring. while not the best season of the show, I was left more than satisfied and will definitely re-watch my personal highlights of this season alongside highlights from the rest of the show ad nauseam till my death :)

Thanks for sharing, and that is a sound argument for Boo To A Goose (which I also loved). Lots of very interesting interpretations and social commentary while still being subtle (I didn't feel like anything was hammered in to the point it felt condescending) and above all, extremely disturbing.
@oliverholmes-gunning53722 ай бұрын
For me it would be 1. Plodding On (fantastic episode, a bit self-indulgent but a great way to round off the series, and we finally got that bus episode!), 2. The Trolley Problem (story doesn't quite hold up the second time round, but I really enjoy the two-handers and the nastiest twists; The Devil Of Christmas and The Last Weekend- which this one was reminiscent of- are my two all-time favourite episodes), 3. Mulberry Close (definitely the best of all the "gimmick" episodes, and really well acted), 4. Boo To A Goose (didn't care that much for it at first, but I couldn't stop thinking about it afterwards and really enjoyed it on the rewartch), 5. CTRL/ALT/ESC (good, but the twist came too early to have much of an impact- am I the only one who really doesn't care that much for the "the-twist-isn't-the-important-part" episodes like Love Is A Stranger?- and it was stolen from Andy Nyman's excellent Ghost Stories), 6. The Curse Of The Ninth (really enjoyed the atmosphere- love MR James, but the twist was both underwhelming and nonsensical- the person who finishes a piece is the person who wrote it, not the person who arranges the pages, and I don't care how much jigsaw foreshadowing you throw in). Anyway, great series all round, and a fitting sendoff to the show. Sad to think there will never be another twist to guess or hare to spot...

Currently mixed on S9, it's definitely good however it does a couple of things I'm personally not a fan of, however it ends on a pretty strong note. In terms of ranking: 6. The Trolley Problem: Don't think Steve's son should've taken the punishment for his crimes. 5. Boo to a Goose: left wanting more of this world 4. Curse of the Ninth: One of the best looking episodes. 3. Mulberry Close: really funny but the format did limit the story, I wanted to see the nosey neighbour get her just desserts. 2: CTRL ALT ETC: refreshingly wholesome twist on escape room horror. 1. Plodding On: Perfect ending for the show, no notes.

The Trolley Problem delivered a world where Reece’s daughter took the punishment for Steve’s "crimes" so I personally believe having the same done to Steve’s son was how Reece’s character got vengeance for his daughter by making the man who caused Reece so much pain deal with the same grief
@cameronmcgregor25832 ай бұрын
As someone else already mentioned I think the murder of Steve's son was meant to be a sort of poetic justice. I felt the ending of mulberry close was far more of a stretch, I'm not saying its entirely impossible for someone to murder the murderer of their dog but to do it with little to no evidence is not very believable
