More open space would be preferrable, but what could make a huge difference is taping the remote to the end of the bat. The end of the bat is moving significantly quicker than the middle (simple physics, the whole bat moves together for the same amount of time, but the end of the bat is going a farther distance).

Please correct me if I'm wrong, because I cannot remember for 100%. But don't you use the same remote for both sides of the ball? Does this mean that you changed player settings on the remotes after each half inning?
