Welcome back to WeGotThisOffGrid! Well… kind of. Let’s be real-we’re still balancing our Off-grid dream with some good old In-grid comforts (hot showers are nice, okay?). But that doesn’t mean we’re slacking! This week, we’re tackling the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, which decided to play “Let’s See How Far This Bridge Can Float.” Spoiler: It didn’t float well.
Armed with a John Deere 1025R subcompact tractor, a Case mini excavator, and a big ol’ full-size excavator (shoutout to our awesome neighbor for the heavy-duty backup), we’re hauling massive boulders, deepening the creek bed, and making sure the next storm doesn’t send us scrambling for a canoe.
Meanwhile, over at our In-grid home, we’re fixing up the foundation because-surprise, surprise-Mother Nature isn’t just gunning for our bridge. She’s also trying to see if she can sink our house. Not today, lady.
And then there’s Brownie, our six-month-old puppy, who has officially outgrown Marianne, our seasoned, no-nonsense shepherd-lab mix. Brownie is treating the job site like her personal racetrack, “supervising” (aka causing chaos), while Marianne is 99% sure she’s retired from all this nonsense. We’d love to say Brownie is helping, but mostly, she’s just keeping us on our toes-literally, because she’s always underfoot.
So, between excavators moving dirt, tractors hauling rock, flood-proofing, bridge-rebuilding, puppy-wrangling, and trying to remember where we put our coffee, we’ve got our hands full. Off-grid? Not yet. In-grid? For now. Completely chaotic? Absolutely.
Join us for another round of big projects, big messes, and even bigger laughs as we inch closer to our off-grid dream-one disaster at a time. Don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe-or at least send us moral support. We’ve got this… mostly.
