Uhhhhh holy SHIT. I'm not and won't EVER be ready for this. Too complex, too well thought out, actual gods and goddesses who wove this together. I'm actually at a loss for words, even while writing this... If It wasn't for DKDKTV I'd be SO lost. Realizing it's just theories, it's the BEST i've heard. I cannot WAIT for this entire album... RM bodied this song, and after having it explained... it's very deep, and I guarantee the entire album is going to devastate me... as well as ALL OF YOU.
I definitely hope you enjoyed, my mind is still blank, BTS has to calm down with this... How can they just... keep getting... better, and better? ...stan talent.
Sorry if I didn't catch all of the similarities between the two videos..! I know some people would have preferred I wait, but I don't think i'd be able to... I understand that may or may not ruin the experience not only for myself, but for you and I apologize for that, it's unfortunate that it took me so long to find BTS! :(

The Persona intro and classroom setting and its references to 2014 Skool Luv Affair era and 2013 No More Dream era are showing RM's past personas juxtaposed with how much he's grown since then. Also, the lyric where RM says he's not sure whether he's a "dog or a pig or what else" is similar to a lyric in the BTS song Am I Wrong, in which they say "We become dogs and pigs when we're angry." This is believed to be calling out a Korean politician who got backlash for comparing underclass people to dogs and pigs - basically ignorant masses. To tie this back into Persona, it fits with how RM and BTS started out as underdogs, and their group name and bulletproof concept is about defending underdogs, but now - whether they feel like they deserve it or not - people are showering them with "pearls" of glorification. But I think RM accepts all of his personas, past and present, as part of who he is. And here's where I disagree with DKDKTV (as I've commented under someone else's video): This Explained video had helpful points, but one thing I think I don't agree on with Danny is the conclusion that RM is overidentifying with the persona rather than accepting it. As I understand in Jungian theory, the persona is not inherently wrong. It's a natural part of interacting with other people, and it's not a problem as long as it's seen for what it is. When RM talks about God creating "these various beauties" and saying that his various personas are the map of his soul, it feels like an awakened self-acceptance anthem, a realization that loving yourself means embracing all of who you are - personas and beyond. Which leads to "I just wanna give you all the voices 'till I die / I just wanna give you all the shoulders when you cry." RM's self-exploration and acceptance is not only for his own benefit, but also to comfort and encourage our own exploration and acceptance as well. There's another Korean video titled "[eng sub] BTS Map of the Soul: Persona comeback trailer analysis" that explains this.

What's super interesting to me about all this is that while ARMY is madly reading and discovering Carl Jung, there are a group of Jungians on the web who have discovered BTS. It's a wild and crazy ride. I stumbled across a site where they were discussing RM's speech at the UN and how it showed his self-knowledge and "individuation." The leader of a Carl Jung discussion group even contacted and had an interview with ARMY. I made a comment to him about DKDKTV's explanation video and he responded that he would try to get to it this week. So we have people from all diff walks of life, corners of the planet, interest groups... who RM is bringing together. @@Wehttam Also Jungian scholar Laura London (jungianLaura on Twitter) had an episode (42) dedicated to BTS on her Speaking of Jung podcast in which she interviewed Murray Stein, the author of the book "Map of the Soul." BigHit has been selling the book in their online store, and sales have recently increased from 2500 copies in 3 years to 10000 copies this year alone. She has been interacting with ARMYs and there are a number of interesting discussions on her Twitter account and those of fellow Jungians, so I recommend checking it out.

Also, I should say that Namjoon has throughout the years always talked about how he is trying to find himself. He struggled in the begging for a few years trying to figure out if he was a "real creditable rapper" or an "idol" and tried to find a common ground between the two. So we as army are aware of his struggle of self-identity, self-worth, and confidence because he talks to us about it openly over the years. But now I can say that he seems to have come to a point in his life where he is accepting all parts of himself and is in a better place. Also, he has mentioned on a few occasions that he has a therapist he talks to, so yeah he is taking care of his mental health and I am happy that he takes the initiative to do that.

I... love Namjoon so much. He's one of the most... real person Idols i've ever had the pleasure to know of or see... We often forget these boys (and any other idol) are human too, so it's beyond refreshing... In the sense that, I can connect with him as a person... I don't know how to explain myself without sounding dumb but... Thank you so much for explaining all of this to me about Namjoon, ALSO... the therapist thing is very brave to and heartfelt to me. Mental health IS important, and I know i've read, or seen at least that it's a bit of a taboo thing around korea... unless I read wrong! So being open about that is incredible. Army twitter found out about the book and we started looking into the meanings of the book and so we were prepared the day this mv dropped to explain to each other what the meanings were. So a lot of us collectively were able to understand what namjoon was getting at before dkdktv debuted their video. :) Also bts wings album and fake love series was filled with theories and we have had to always come together as army and figure it out. So do not feel bad we have experience and are pros at theorizing. You did a great reaction my friend.

I can't grasp all these meanings by myself. Luckily, I follow smart Armys who help me understand what's happening. That's what I love about the diversity of the fandom: each Army contributes a little, and together we are able to learn and grow. The "but Namjoon" part discussed on the video received a different interpretation on twitter. It refers to what haters use whenever their favorites do something wrong: "Person X did this, but Namjoon did/said that". I found interesting that the Explained video didn't cover that. they hinted "map of the soul" in august and put the book on the website in autumn so we had time to process, although personally i don't find the book easy to understand.. you don't have to understand everything. all these theories and concepts are a bonus. i don't think that all members read the book, too. just enjoy music and visuals, don't feel burdened. also you definitely don't need to check all content at once. keep it at your own pace.

You can't understand rm's lyricism easily until you learn Korean language because he uses so much wordplays,rhyme scheme,references . And you also have to be intelligent.

My reaction was the same as yours when Danny explained that the big RM was his overblown persona. "It was soooo obvious!" How could I not get that? I sort of followed the outline of the map of the soul, but didn't connect it with the MV very well. DKDKTV is sooo good. That image of the guy looking in the mirror and seeing Superman will stay with me (ego is the person we want others to see-- our idealized image of ourselves).

Map of the Soul will be a trilogy: First album is PERSONNA, about dream Second album is SHADOW, about Love Third album is EGO, about Happyness If you zoom into the blackboard you can see it clearly written on the board.

This MV is so fun to dissect. Thank you BTS for making our brains work hard! There are so many existential references. I interpreted the dog, pig, pearl necklace verse-as a possible reference to this verse in the Bible Matthew 7:6 New King James Version 6" Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces." I think RM might be saying he still hasn't figured himself out yet but others put their own values on him to try and destroy and tear him apart. Similar to the proverb Danny/DKDKTV mentions, but I interpret some biblical and spiritual references. Then Namjoon spits this out into the next scene-notice his robe has the Phoenix bird printed on it in the middle of animated flames. @19:48 I think also that Namjoon, like the Phoenix has the ability to be reborn from the ashes of the flames into a different Persona. Also I think the robotic humanoids might be ARMY, see how they’re looking up to him while he’s on a pedestal, but their faces are robotic because the bulk of the connections to ARMY outside of concerts/fan meets is online. Well that's my interpretation a least! Love me some deep thoughts time with Kim Namjoon!

I'm considering the possibility that the big version of RM isn't the persona, but maybe the unexplored unconscious Self. Like the much larger, hidden part of an iceberg. Personas are still just a smaller part of the larger whole. I think it was the curious, ambiguous expression on its face when you first see it...and because it looks to me like it's wearing a grey monk's robe. Or maybe it represents the Enlightened, fully realized, self aware Namjoon to be discovered through the next cycle of albums. How it initially makes such direct eye contact with us, and watches the smaller RM so very intently. Maybe that's part of the reason why people often have such a surprised, recoiling response to it. Interacting with the Shadow Self is unsettling. It knows everything you've pushed down and forgotten.

one day late to see this **sigh** when i saw the comeback trailer i immediately catch up some things, like the board and the classroom full of indirect to the book Map Of The Soul and the "Who Am I?" written everywhere, the little and big personas, the reflections(me being an enthusiastic of the Wings era was "!!!") all connected so well with the hints that they left on their mvs and live performance,, i'm still amazed by how they really get the little details, ffs, tHEY EVEN GAVE US A HINT ON A SHIRT THAT JIN WORE ONCE A YEAR OR TWO AGO; bighit is smart and thank you matt for reacting to this, hope you react to the comeback (you have a free pass this time jsjsj) ♡!

Well, I am a literature student. I have to analyze many things and I’ve done assignments on some BTS mv’s thanks to my kind teacher. You really have to utilize your knowledge to analyze whatever it may be and with the use of critical thinking you come up with your own understanding and conclusion. i think it's alright to keep your pace like this, this is basically what I did when i became an ARMY during Fake Love Era. I got lost when the subject was theories of the BTS Universe, so I'd recommend to not stress over that for now, the comeback will still be very fun for you!! After you check their previous works you can read the Save ME Webtoon of the BTS Universe, can read the book called "The Notes" (both BigHit official), can read or maybe just understand the main concept of the books that inspired a BTS Era (like "Demian" for the album Wings, or "Map of the Soul" for Persona, etc). I can just guarantee you'll have an easier time because before 2019, we just have our own theories. ARMYs made videos, threads, so MANY theories and no confirmation from BTS and BigHit. But now we have official Webtoon and book and everything is easier to understand

jung has been the foundation of their concepts' themes, especially the storyline, for years haha anyone who's been following it for a while is at least casually acquainted with jungian theory at this point 😅 bighit even sells related books in their online shop namjoon particularly is big on self-reflection and looking inward for understanding. this concept is such a namjoon concept without a doubt, it's so fitting he did the intro

Woohoo! Okay so honestly, listening to the entire discography wouldn't really "help", as this "psyche" comeback is a whole new era. Really the only reason we encouraged you to watch the SLA trailer first is so you get the "throwback" element of the "Persona" MV/song. For the biggest part, lyrically it's a new era. So don't worry. Also, it's not 11 albums, it's more like 14 to go. ;) I posted this to another reactor about watching this MV for the first time, thought you might be amused too: I went through a progression watching this for the first time. It went like this: -Got notification of video, heartbeat spiked up, anxiety took over -Initial confusion over the chipmunk vocal sound -Being reminded (as if I forgot) that RM is a rap deity -Bobbing my head to the beat -Pausing the video and yelling "WHAT THE F IS THAT OMG" when the CGI RM face came on the screen -Recovering from CGI RM -Again yelling at the even bigger CGI RM -Smiling big at the hook (+chair dancing) -Sigh of relief that I enjoyed it

Absolutely loved your reaction 💜 RM is a lyrical genius 💜 I remember watching a video of RM talking about Kim Namjoon, and that he tries to live as Kim Namjoon on his time off. He said that Kim Namjoon likes nature walks. Interestingly, RM posts pictures of his nature walks on twitter. So he may not be "over-identifying" himself with RM, but rather he's learning to "co-exist" with it. Suga also mentioned his struggle a while ago about his stage self vs. real self (I believe that was during their Dinner Party BTS FESTA 2018?).

It's true that you might not understand everything in the new album since you haven't heard all of their albums, but it seems so cruel to tell you to not listen to it until you've heard those. You're excited for it, so you should listen to it. And then if you ever listen to all the other albums you can re-listen to Persona with a new understanding. :P

i wanna share a few things i’ve seen armys commenting on twitter: • the way joon pronounces “persona”, with the emphasis in “na” sounds like he’s saying “나”, which means “i” or “me” in korean; • in their explained video dkdktv focused on explaining the concepts of persona, shadow and ego because there are speculations that those are gonna be the title of the albums of the map of the souls series. if you zoom in, you can see these words written on the chalkboard, alongside dream, happiness and love (speculates to be each album’s title tracks); also, i know you said you tried to stay out of twitter to avoid spoilers, but if you’d been there you’d see how beautiful it is armys coming up with theories veery quickly! ♥︎ i follow an army who guessed correctly what would be the title of this series (map of the soul) around october 2018! the boys always leave clues, and even though not all of us are quick enough to catch it, there are always the outstandingly smart ones who explain it for us, like dkdktv ✨ i really love your reactions, i feel you so much when you got distracted by joon 😂💕

Haha Yeah! The ONLY other time he showed up was my VERY first video reaction to Chung ha ;p , which was awful. NEVER look at it. Holy. (My reaction, chung ha was amazing). hahah yes! I DON'T know if I had a reason for naming him that.... He isnt even TECHNICALLY mine...!? I was getting ready for work, and thought I was petting MY cat... a gray girl named Gracie... BUT... it was a black cat instead... NO IDEA where he came from... But he never left, and when i took him to the vet, NO chip... so!? He's made himself at home and here we are... in the video he was trying to get on my shoulder to perch on my back... Idk where he decided to start doing that from. What are your cats names!? I have some other cats too... Names Jezzabelle, Merlin, Ramsey, and Bella :p.... Vlad's the best though... because I NAMED him... unfortunately, I'm not really one to try and dig into theories :') I'm an ARMY who just kind of listens to what everyone else starts figuring out bc there's just no way for me to contribute, my brain can't work like that, haha Also, I believe your next album is Dark and Wild, and let me tell ya, we're gonna be getting emotional with that one! it's so good, and more mature than their first 3, but it's also centered around the feelings and thoughts of teenage/early 20 y/o boys, so it's a roller coaster and a half and there's def still a few instances of cringe (coughWoHcough), but for the most part the album is fantastic and I can't wait for you to listen! I do too, like I get the gist of things, but just try not to feel any pressure to try and understand EVERYTHING 100%, because I think that adds stress, and the last thing any of us want is you being stressed. vuv I advise to enjoy the boys and their story naturally, and in a way that's comfortable to you, and I also thank people like DKDKTV (there's also a channel called Form of Therapy which is a Korean producer who reacts to BTS (and other kpop groups) who gives some really good insight as well, poor guy cried while listening to Mono bc apparently it's a lot more emotional to listen to when you understand Korean, and I got emotional enough listening to it needing subs! haha) but yeah, sorry I got ramble-y, but tl;dr not only us, but the boys want fans to enjoy BTS however you want, it's good to understand their lyrics but it's also okay to not understand every little thing vuv anyway yeah, honestly out of the whole album, War of Hormone, although having an aesthetically pleasing video and catchy track, the lyrics are kind of yikes, but the boys have said they've learned better as they grew, and cringe at it themselves (21st Century Girl from Wings is a total 180 from it and is a bop and a half), other than that there's like, just a couple verses from other songs that are just like, -_-, but bearable, haha. Gosh, sorry about the wall of text, sometimes I start talking and just can't stop;; I hope you have a nice and happy day! ^u^

You know, there's 8 different types of intelligence (examples: logical, musical, sportive, etc...) so saying you're not intelligent may be true for 1 type of intelligence, but not true for the 7 others so... Yeah, maybe you don't understand everything the first time you hear it like some do, but 1) maybe that's just not how your brain works 2) maybe you need time to think about it before understanding it, which you don't have the time to do in a video 3) you don't have all the elements in mind to be able to understand everything anyway. So don't say that, i know that's not true. By your reaction videos, i can already tell you're intelligent.
