WEIGHT TRAINING FOR WOMEN OVER 50.I teach you how in this follow along workout with dumbbells. I’m Rae from Live Yourself Young and continuing with my weight training for women over 50 series this workout is to help you learn some basic weight training exercises with dumbbells using correct form. This workout is a progression from my full body workout where we used just your own bodyweight.
WEIGHT TRAINING WOMEN OVER 50 - where to start? Join me FULL BODY WARM UP, WORKOUT & STRETCH at home. • WEIGHT TRAINING WOMEN ...
Normally when I train with weights I do 3 sets of each exercise with a rest of about 1 minute between each set. But today we have 10 exercises and we are going to do 1 set of each exercise and I want you to think quality and not quantity. It is better to achieve 5 high quality reps with correct form than doing 12 reps but losing form. You will need 2 sets of dumbbells - one heavier and one lighter. If you watched my video on which weight dumbbells you should buy as a beginner then they will be perfect.
A BEGINNER’S GUIDE What Weight Dumbbells Should I Buy To Train At Home? FOR WOMEN OVER 50. • A BEGINNER’S GUIDE Wha...

THANK YOU. I am down 300lbs I started at 501lbs and its been a life time journey nobody knew about high protein when I started it was very hard, it was simply good choices no internet to feed you advice and all with a very bad back. I have been determined to not stop. I have about 60 to my goal weight. I have been walking along with high protein low carb & lots of water. I'm 45. I was down to 161 and was jogging each morning and was crazy healthy but then I got pregnant with my 4 yr old and then was on bed rest with a short cervix then I gained 100lbs back. She was worth every pound. Not to mention I had already tried for 23yrs to get pregnant and she popped up once I was healthy. Now I am teaching her how to live healthy and ea healthy with me. Lately I seem to lose 10 gain 10 and the Dr. thinks it was my hormones and my age. OK, I did some age related research and turns out he may be on to something. I got tons of tests done, could be slight hormones but my periods are still regular in fact we want to have baby number 2. But I need to be in shape again before I do. So today I added weights today for the 1st time and chose this work out. I LOVED IT! I cant believe what an impact it had. My 4 yr old did it with me. I have a Tik Tok where I live my healthy natural life and I'm going to tell my followers about it. I will be doing this 3 days a week. THANK YOU !

Oh my goodness your story made me feel very emotional 🥰 I love that your 4 year old did the workout with you! What a wonderful role model she has. There are so many factors that can affect our weight and you are doing all the right things; one thing a lot of people don't talk about is good quality sleep and having a good sleep routine. If I was you I would be asking my doctor for blood tests to check your hormones for any imbalances. 💜

First day impressions:It arrived in a waist high box. kzbin.infoUgkxP26Tir6n60vUkdtn4mbwhRO8cwuJQNy2 Each dumbbell was in its own foam box within the shipping box. Everything was secure and in good shape. No weird smells. The weight changing mechanism is really smooth and straight forward. Changing weight is really fast and easy. Though the handle is plastic, I don't think it will be breaking anytime soon. So far pretty impressed after my first session with them. I was afraid they were going to be too wide at first, but I didn't have any issues with them while doing upright rows.

It’s not about the number on the weight it’s about progressive overload, you need to challenge your muscles whilst using correct form. If you bicep curl 15kg but use your back and shoulders to throw the weight up you are on the way to an injury instead of building muscle and getting strong. Listen to your body and watch some of my other videos for more advice on which weights to use and how to make the most out of your weight training 💪🏼 I think you already know this 😉

I have been going back to the Rachel McLish workout, also on KZbin , which I started doing in the 90's .I divide it into the upper and lower segments and alternate days with one rest day a week. I use lighter weights and hope to keep increasing as i gain strength. At 66, it's important to stay strong!

Hi and thanks for your comment. I believe you are talking about Giant sets which is a circuit of three or more moves for one body part performed one after another with little to no rest in between. Yes they are a good option for when you are short on time or to increase intensity but to start off with I am teaching ladies with no experience how to perform exercises safely and effectively. In my opinion the best weight loss tool you have is to walk more!

This is my first video of yours I am going to try. I am 53 and I was lifting and got burn out because I didn’t see any difference after so many YEARs. I stayed the same and didn’t lose weight I need to lose 20. So I am jogging now and I love that.. but I know I need to do strength. I want to keep bone and gain a bit of muscle so I don’t lose it. My skin is looking thin and cottage cheesey lol. Can u tell me what u would recommend as a plan, if jogging and weight lifting ? I tend to not know how to balance it. I love jogging and hiking and I work that has me up on my feet 5-8 hours straight now so I should be able to fit in lifting. But I have arthritis as well. So makes it difficult to know what is sore and what is arthritis the next day. I want mobile exercise and flexibility and weight and jog so it’s a lot to fit in. Lol
@LiveYourselfYoung
@LiveYourselfYoung Жыл бұрын
Hi Renee and welcome to my channel! I hear you and I too find it hard to fit in everything I want to do! I find it helps to have a routine but I appreciate life can get in the way. In my opinion the weight lifting should be a priority for menopausal women and I will link a video for you which you may find interesting. I lift weights every other day and if you are strict in your form and don't waste time you can get a good workout in as little as 30 minutes. Can you work out at home to save the time travelling to a gym?. Mobility is so important too so I am pleased you want to add this to your routine. I would replace the jogging with walking. Can you walk to work or even if you can only fit in a 10 minute walk after every meal every day this would be a good start. If you have arthritis in your knees you may find a static or electric bike a good choice too. I wish you all the best and your determination will win the day 💜 kzbin.info/www/bejne/nHSbin5nedeKjJo

Hi Rae.. I'm 54 and I'm starting my journey into muscle building. My question is.. I'm 160lbs and doing a lot of cardio 5 days per wk to bring down my body fat.. At what weight should I start to bring in the weights.. My body fat ( on scales) saying I'm 40% and want to get down to 25%... I'm 5ft7 and always been athletic. Just need good advice.. Am I too old to start. 🙄😔 Thankyou Rae you inspire me😁🌟
@LiveYourselfYoung
@LiveYourselfYoung 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Denise thanks for reaching out… You are never too old to start! Just check in with your doctor if you have any concerns. Forgive me if I tell you things you already know! Add in strength training asap to start building lean muscle as muscle helps you burn more calories! With strength training start slow doing workouts just using your own body weight, then as you get stronger progress to resistance bands and then dumbbells. As a beginner you can start off doing full body workouts 3 times a week with rest days in between each workout. Listen to your body to know when you are ready to progress but you do need to do progressive weight training to see results and I talk about this in my videos. You can follow my full body workouts as an easy way to start. When I was in a calorie deficit for my competition I increased my daily steps, did fasted walks every morning for my cardio, I tried to keep my daily activity high eg when I emptied the dishwasher I took one item to put away at a time! Aim for 8 hours of sleep a night and of course nutrition is key, make sure you are getting enough protein and fibre, reduce the amount of highly processed foods and drink plenty of water. Do watch my nutrition videos as I share some of my healthy eating top tips particularly good for when you have fat loss goals. 💜 I have a playlist called Fat Loss tips, here's a video to get you started kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJ-pqHeYjJ6JorM Also watch my video on how weight training helps with fat loss kzbin.info/www/bejne/nHSbin5nedeKjJo

You know your body best and should not do anything that causes you pain. It sounds like some rehab exercises with a band would be good or hanging but with an injury you will get best results by finding someone to talk to to in person… a KZbin video can’t replace personal care, so please take care.

I just found and you and am so grateful!! I’m 58 with rheumatoid arthritis (22 years) I just went through 6 months of on and off flare ups. I’ve gained 10 lbs and lost muscle from inactivity. Today was the first day that I round my stationary bike and lifted light weights. I sat down to find a video to inspire me. Thank you 🙏

I’m so glad I found you. I’m 55 and just starting to realize how important strength training is. It seems every year I lose more muscle and gain more fat 😢 and I want to reverse that. Trying to find a mature fitness instructor who understands what happens after menopause was crucial for me. My hope is to transform into a lean strong body.

Older women need to get away from the ingrained mindset that cardio exercise is what they need to stay fit. As women AND men get older, they lose muscle mass. Running and cardio does very little to replace this. Resistance training brings back the muscle to help you look and feel great ! Another factor as we age is hormones. Live Yourself Young actually addresses Hormone Replacement Therapy which many do not. She is a smart smart girl who obviously really wants to see people feel great and get results. You should get your hormone levels checked. I'm a man, and if my testosterone is low or non-existent, then my exercise does little good. My wife uses hormone therapy and it really made a difference. Guess what ladies, women need testosterone too! #1. Get you hormone levels checked. #2. Fix what is low. #3. Start training !

I really enjoyed this work out. I liked the pace. Not because I’m out of shape, but because I do have at times a back issue and I feel like the slower pace helps me not trigger my back. Hoping to do more of your videos in the future. since I have been lifting weights, could I do your workout twice a day?

I did this today, I loved it. I'm 58 and a beginner, just use 2 x 1 Kg dumbbells as that's all I have, it's the technique that's important, straight back and engaging your core. It felt great.

I couldn't do the other half of the workout because my 4 kilograms dumbbells were tooo heavy! Today was the first day for me lifting weights. But still very useful and I'll come back for more.

I recently discovered your channel, and I love it! I’m 63 yrs young, weighing 108. I began strength training in August, dedicating 45 minutes five times a week, and I've noticed a significant improvement in muscle definition. Having suffered a knee injury in my 20s, I started feeling pain in my mid-50s. Compensating for my walk led to hip pain so severe that I couldn't lift my leg to get in the car, sleep on my favorite side, or sleep at all due to the pain. Gradual decline often leads to automatic feelings of depression. After several years, I had enough and started walking, riding my bike, and incorporating light yoga. To my surprise, over time, my movements became more fluent, despite stiff joints. I introduced lots of stretching, increased walking, and longer bike rides into my routine. While I still experience some pain, it's nothing like before. Every woman should persist in feeling and looking her best, regardless of age. Thank you for being a role model for all. I can't wait to implement your workouts.

New to your channel. I'm an over 50 and in serious need of some toning/strengthening. SO happy to find you! Just did this workout and had so much fun. It's harder for me than I thought it would be when initially watching you on my iPad. I feel it!! Excited to do this 3 times a week to get stronger. Any advice on how to keep your small dog from licking/kissing you when doing any kind of floor exercise? LOL! Anyway, thank you!!!
