It was only an educated guess…one that can satisfy the boundary conditions.

All the videos are nicely explained . Thank you very much . i have a doubt in video 5 . In collocation method we forced the residual to zero at H/2 to be zero. But in the final solution when u solved for u at H/2 the collocation method solution is not equal to exact solution . Can you explain why ? when we made residual at H/2 as zero we have to get the exact solution at that point right ? why is this deviation ??

This is because you are making another assumption to start with - the form of solution being a single sin function.

He made that both functions on the differential equation give the same result at one point, that doesnt mean that both functions are equal at that point. In other words and to make it clear, the fact that the slope of the slope from 2 different functions at 1 specifict point is the same does not mean both functions are the same at that point.
