------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Freediving is a sport of diving underwater with just one breath in your lungs. It's about keeping the mind at ease, taking a deep breath and letting your self fall into the ocean. This movie is made to show this sport from a new perspective -- an emotional and mythical view. It's fiction.
For a long time we were asking our selves why the internet did not have any videos of freediving as an emotional experience - something like 'Le Grand Bleu' by Luc Besson. Every clip on KZbin had something to do with a stop watch or a long rope. Suddenly Guillaume Nery and Julie Gautier emerged with their film 'Free Fall'. Their film managed to show freediving from a totally new perspective and give the world something never seen before. To us Guillaume Nery and Julie Gautier's 'Free Fall' have started a new short film genre from a freediver's perspective. We wish to contribute to this genre with our film.
'WEIGHTLESS -- Emotional Freediving' is filmed in Dahab, Egypt, January-February 2011 on three different locations. The five hours of footage has been shot solely on breath hold. The deepest filming was done on 20 meters depth and no single clip was longer than 1.5 minutes. We are not world champion freedivers but we love freediving and making movies!

Helder Franco same! I’m also a baby free diver and I dive to find peace and get my head right. I have been struggling with a lot of anxiety in my rock climbing (also a first season climber) and it has helped with my headspace a lot a lot. I didn’t expect that to happen.

Same I can barely hold my breath for 2 mins.. and I can barely dive 100ft or 30meters (horizontally hahah) but I'm always dreaming of going deeper and deeper into that deep blue.

Words fail me !! I dream of being able to do that, I'm a dive instructor and you have made my heart sing with joy !! The "thing" on him nose is so he does not have to use his hand to equalize, and NO there are no tubes connected to an air supply. Dude you are a LEGEND in my eyes !!

I found this video by chance couple of years ago. I come back to it again and again. Always as fresh as 1st time. I occassionally freedive myself for some years now and I have watched tones of freediving videos so far. I love the idea and feelings this video conveys. Each time I watch it I feel like taking 1st flight away from here and into the see. Thanks so much !

Dude.... I thought I was the only one who felt that while freediving. I am so happy with your work. You inspired me when I first started training, and I can now hold my breath as long as you did in the video and have dove as deep. Thanks for doing it and don't listen to the trolls, not all of them are informed enough to make a comment worth reading in my opinion.

lol that's actually what the free-diver from this video said to me when I met him at the Ocean Film Festival a couple of weeks ago. I guess I should have prefaced my comment by saying it's as close to flying as I'LL ever get...I have no desire to sky dive of any sort. And my husband introduced me to the wonderful world of base jumping via youtube shortly after that one guy smashed into a bridge. Super cool, but not something I will ever experience :D Corrie

Well yes there can be many shots taken to get it good ecstatically, but it's not like freedivers can't hold their breaths throughtout the video.. because that they can do.
@lorisgraf8804
@lorisgraf8804 10 жыл бұрын
ECB Prod I dont think freedivers can hold their breath for such a long dive, that's also got a bit of acrobacy and swimming in it. I think there were more than one attempt
@lukasz.domanski
@lukasz.domanski 9 жыл бұрын
Loris Graf yes, there were more attempts (see the description). World record in static breath hold is over 11 minutes but as he needs to release some air during the dive it would be very, very difficult to record it in one go. Nomatter of that it is probably still possible for top-freedivers :)

decompression sickness is something that you get if you stay deep for an extended period of time without doing decompression stops to allow the bubbles to fizz out of you blood stream properly. holding your breath and descending should not be a problem, it is ascending while holding your breath is what's dangerous. as you rise up, the air in your lung expands and can cause injury if you're not expelling the air.

Also, with more muscle mass you increase your body's minimum energy requirments (basal metabolic rate) wich helps to reduce the amount of fat even further. To sum it up you need to follow these steps to get lean: -Increase muscle mass (increases your basal metabolic rate) -eat at least 2 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight per day -increase your daily energy expenditure by walking an hour a day or more -reduce energy intake -get a good nights sleep (reduces cortisol levels)

That's exactly what it does. It's a common misconception that cardio sports are the way to go to shed excess fat, yet if your heart rate is above ca 75% your body burns the sugars stored in your muscles and liver (the glycogen) instead of the fat, wich is a small amount of short term energy. Fat-burning occurs when your heart rate is below 75% (walking, riding a bike slowly, weightlifting etc unless you're super trained and can run). Compare a 100m sprinter with a marathon runners body.
