I have to admit: it's fresh expierience to watch Koreans play something other than StarCraft. I'm not saying it's bad, just different from what I've used to see. I'm just glad that C&C community has members in that part of Asia as well. 🥰 And to you who's reading this comment: have a nice day.

Koreans love numbers and statuses. In order for KW to gain traction in Korea, it needs to have a proper Observer mode, and also show in-game numbers such as Money, Supply (Unit Count), Workers (Harvester Count). Also, a game clock will allow build orders to be optimized. That type of mod is what KW pro-scene needs.

A legit Korean Kane's Wrath scene could be great for the game. The meta and skill level are different, but those were some fun games.

I like how compared to the usual pro matches I watch, the Korean matches have more reliance on using infantry squads based on the fact they don't really sell their infantry structures in the early game and instead keep it to mass produce them

Well, it's because the Korean were so used to micro heavy style Starcraft gameplay. Kane's Wraths and Tib Wars are MACRO heavy, so if you lose an entire army it's not game over, you could do it again as long the base structures remain secure. In fact i'm more interested if they play RA3 because that game also relies on micro as well, but a lot harder than Starcraft.

Just a reminder that these games were on 1.03, where plays with scrin infantry etc are pretty legit. It's not 1.02 meta where it's just players bonking each other with epic units and base pushes. Nice to see Korean players enjoying the patch and being creative, and thanks to sybert for casting them. -cgf

Keep talking about starts, your adding lots of value in these games with that knowledge of this game. I know all the strats of SC2, but love the CNC games, and never learned all the builds and tech etc, so you are giving me very useful information on builds and starts and pros and cons of stuff that's happening.

I’m American. I love watching the Korean’s play pretty much anything. They are some of the finest, most humble players I’ve ever met. I play with a Korean friend in Mechwarrior Online and he is one of the best pilots I’ve ever seen in light mechs. Great to see them in C&C as well.

Feels like watching people who've had just transitioned from playing StarCraft 2 to Kane's Wrath, especially in game no. 2. Or maybe that's the way they play KW in South Korea...

Definitely. It seems like EU/NA KW players typically pick a few prime units to roll with and deploy them in multiple small strike groups, and especially are much more aggressive about rushing and attacking. Small group hit and run/aggressive micro and EMP control are pretty common in those games. Korean players seem to prefer large masses of single main armies with very mixed unit comps, and seem to play it as a single big tug of war battle, with large amounts of macro over all else. They also seem a little unfamiliar with the mechanics of Kane's Wrath - I noticed that in these games there are a ton of moments when tanks could probably completely halt an infantry advance by crushing them, but it wasn't much used here. Very interesting use of defensive structures as well.

These game truly have a sense of freshnes, I think it's great to have players on other communities that take such wild turns of strategies from what we are used to here, so I hope to see more of these guys in the future. There's definitely a distinct different between the KR players and the rest of the usuals that we watched. Maybe less effective than the later, but they have their own ways

In the second match, Earev_Star and dontfind simply decided to pay tribute to the simple and ancient method of wall-to-wall combat. Before the fourth match, Earev_Star and Magnetus seem to have learned to read minds, because they began to grant wishes - they began to play more professionally, and as soon as I thought about the fact that GDI players so rarely use snipers and commandos, Earev_Star used the commando and uses a incredibly effectively.

it's 1.03, where snipers/commandos are very powerful. Players don't use them as much on 1.02/1.02+ because they're not as good/very situational.

Awesome stuff! Good to see players approaching the game differently and learning and evolving! That commando play was beautiful! And it seems they appreciate infantry/ don't appreciate how fragile infantry are, or use vehicle crush much.

I love how the map layout resembles a starcraft map. And they are playing 4P maps which is also very reminiscent of SC2. I hope more KR players get into this it would be amazing to watch them.

The 4 player map was used in SC2 so that people could risk rushing, cause on 2 player maps you know where the other person is, you get scouted 100% as soon as possible. 4 player maps like you said open up the opportunity to rush on the chance they don't scout you right away cause they scout the wrong location.

I actually like these sort of slower games, I think they can be just as fun as the pro-level matches. That might be because I'm a SupCom fan though, which is a much, MUCH slower game.

sybert uses post processing on the video to mimic 60 fps for our viewing pleasure. game is still stuck at 30.

Question from a casual player: nod starts making avatars as soon as they can. Scrin make tripods as soon as they can. But gdi rarely make mammoths. A mammoth is more or less as strong as a tripod or avatar, and it's also got antiair capacity, which those other units don't have. So why the mammoth is used so much less than the other high tier units? For someone invested into the lore, it's distressing to see gdi - supposedly the guys with the big tanks and concern for human lives - use human wave tactics against nod superior mechanized forces.

Because mammoths are just too clunky on 1.02/1.02+. They may have strong HP/damage but their 15% shorter range (compared to other high tier units) and slow turrets gets them screwed over by Tripod+stasis, Epic units etc. On 1.03 (where these games were played), Epic units are weaker, Mammoths have better range/turrets so it makes them genuinely scary.

People play vanilla 1.02, but on 1.02+/R18 mappacks. 1.03 is a fine patch/mappack with many refinements/improvements over 1.02+, but mostly underrated/trash-talked by popular players like masterleaf so it sadly doesn't get as much attention.
