True the scenery looks similar, everything is just bigger in Canada, wonderful place! Finland is at the same latitude than Alaska, luckily the climate is less severe in Finland. But the dark winters and light summers are similar.

It looks so beautiful and relaxing! We have areas in New Zealand like that but to have a 'bach', as we call it, or 'crib' in the South Island, you got to have some money... or its inherited... not generally with sauna though! ;-) Catan awesome board game!!

I‘m just wondering if you aren’t allowed to live in the summer cottages during winter or maybe they are not isolated that well? Or why wouldn’t one live in such a nice scenery all year around?!

Yes, that's one of the reasons why. Insulation, waste water management, road maintenance. The municipality is required to arrange a host of services to you as a resident, such as waste collection, mail, healthcare, and if you have kids, education and transport to school. It's expensive. You can live in these kind of places but you've got to bring the house up to code and register as a resident. That way, your taxes will cover the costs and the environmental impact of you living there. Some places aren't meant to be lived in at all, but you are free to visit (freedom to roam)

Виталий Волков There was a time Finland looked less groomed, I remember in my childhood people cared less for the environment. The green movement has been strong in Finland, politically and mentally. And Finns are willing to follow rules typically, so the change for better has been possible.
