In The Female Brain, published in 2006, Louann Brizendine, M.D. claimed that women say about 20,000 words a day, while men say about 7,000.This mirrored the stereotype of women talking three times as much as men. Mark Liberman, a linguistics professor at the University of Pennsylvania, decided to investigate the research that supported such a claim. What he found was that the statement about how much men and women talk came from a self-help book, with no academic citation referencing the statement. Reviewing similar assertions yielded word counts for women ranging from 4,000 to 25,000 words, again with no research supporting such statements. Brizendine retracted her statement when Liberman pointed out his research in a newspaper article, saying the statement would be deleted from future editions. However, the damage was done. This much-publicized, stereotypic sound bite will linger in people’s memories and get recycled in conversations. The retraction will not make the same impression. This is how myths about men and women acquire the status of facts. Source: Article from Psychology today by Catherine Aponte, Psy.D.,

Women are definitely better at memory than men, and you'll notice it the moment she starts an argument with a man and brings up something that happened years ago that has nothing to do with the argument.
@pugmommy98653 жыл бұрын
Eh idk. Maybe most women or something idk I'm very confused because I have really terrible memory. One time my friend told me we met in junior high, I don't remember at all seeing him anywhere in junior high. I only remember seeing him in highschool. He was like "really, you don't remember me being there"? And I kinda danced around the truth and went "Idk maybe I do idk!" But I don't remember it at all for some reason. I only remember very specific things, like scenes in movies and tv shows, and I feel like that something a guy would more remember. But idk this biology stuff always confuses me.

@@whenyourealize5846 Generally women feel more inferior to men because society promotes masculinity and demotes feminity. Love these videos so much. They help me understand both men and women deeper. And it kind of helps me see why there are stereotypes. A lot of women wants to rear children, which includes being pregnant, maternity leave, etc. This is very hard while in military service where you may be away from your family and even away from your country for many years. Love these. Just one suggestion: less versus fewer. As in “women tend to take less risks…” is more properly stated with “fewer risks”. Fewer relates to number; less to volume. Look for this very common error in most grocery stores - “10 items or less” is similarly incorrect. I’m a geek!

He wasn’t referring to a specific number but rather a number range which could be described as volume so „less“ is the better choice of words on this one

@@jkthegreat5687 I’m just gonna refer you to any English dictionary. Though the principle stands in most languages. Sorry. Facts is facts.

@@brettobannon7965 If women take fewer risks(few=emphasizes how comparably small a number is) then they take less risk( less= a smaller amount/quantity of something) So saying that women take less risks is a factually accurate statement and cannot be argued with whether grammatically or literally. You will come to the same conclusion after using a dictionary that I’m sure off.
