The hand blowing part reminded me of my childhood back in the 70's, I used to be pretty good at it. We had several railroad lines that used to go thru the area and my 4 years older than me sister and her friends learned that certain metal train tiedown straps could cut and bent over to make the most high pitched whistle noise you ever heard if you knew how to place your tung right to it! It was the 1970's that's how we entertained ourselves what can I say. 🥱The other stuff I can't talk about, hey we were bored, you can't even imagine how bad it was. I could tell you some really funny stories though. A buddy of mine and myself likely caused a local lore in a certain area. 😂

I learned how to hand whistle when I was 12 years old sitting in the back of my 7th grade Health class. I got yelled at by my teacher because I was so excited I figured it out, I kept doing it. Life changing. 😄

Cole and Brian, I grew up on a farm, and, like you said, you have to entertain yourself during those hot summer and fall days in the middle of harvest. My dad could whistle through his own hands, of course he had big hands very muscular, which I’m of the opinion that that helps to make that whistle sound, and he could use a blade of crash And whistle with it as well. All of his kids work from summer to summer trying to do is will the job on “whistling “ as our father did. I did accomplish a blade of grass whistling, but never just my hands. my dad said just keep practicing when eventually it’ll get easier so that is advice. I’m passing on to you. Brian, great pic on the song of the day. I am a huge fan of Chicago.❣️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ My youngest son, from the time he was four years old, began collecting John Deere farm equipment toys made-to-scale. Every year for my birthday/Mother’s Day, he would tell me that what I wanted for my birthday was to go watch the harvest. He would see the smoke in the sky and he say we got a hurry and make a picnic and go follow the harvest theme for your birthday mommy . The truth was that’s what he wanted to do and we would sit for hours sometimes watching the crew as they cut the produce, and then dump it into the trucks, which were lined up one after the other… Not as big as your rigs, but it would get the job done, and they would harvest way after dark, and it was quite a sight. As my son, aged by the time he was a teenager with a drivers license, he swore he was going to be a farmer. By his senior year, he began dating a young girl that her family had lots of acres to plant then months later harvest. They got married right out of high school, and she used to teach him that he loved being able to farm & harvest more than he did being with her. He was so passionate about farming at any and all levels. I remember one night receiving a phone call from him and he was just giddy because he was going 5 to 7 miles an hour down the highway driving a $500,000 brand new John Deere combine trying to get it from one field to the next, and he said, “mom, I’ve never been so nervous in all my life driving this new combine and trying not to hit anybody’s mailbox or meeting. Somebody driving too fast and not getting over and forcing me into the ditch. But he was excited and so happy to be doing what he always dreamt of doing. I’ll never forget that phone call,… But I can’t help but chuckle when you said something similar as to your preference of driving one type of equipment over the other because it was more fun. My son would say that he totally agreed with you.!! You guys keep doing a great job that you do and be safe and I thank you for all the time you spend making these videos because my parents have passed away and my brothers don’t farm anymore, so I live vicariously through your videos and relive farming all over again. You have a wonderful family and you guys should be proud of that fact .🌈❣️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

Thanks for another great video Cole. It was interesting and enjoyable. You and dad and uncle Jeff are coming right along with soybean harvest for 2023. Doing great without any breakdowns. Yea!!!!!! I wish you would have had some more rain on your beans. Would have made a big difference in yield. Hang in there Sonne’s. Thanks for the song of the day Brian. Good group with a super song you picked. Thanks Brian. Well, Cole I do no think you are making much at learning how to whistle. You are trying hard but just not quite there. Keep trying and don’t give up. You will get it I am sure. Busy busy time for all of you at harvest time. You take good care of your machinery and that is important. About it for now. Thanks for everything Sonne’s. You all take care and be safe. The Iowa Farm Boy. Steve.

Hey Cole.. try putting a blade of grass between your thumbs. Will help you to make the blade vibrate like a woodwind reed & make noise. Helps to control air speed, relaxing your face & eventually will be whistling with hands without a grass blade.

My lilttle brother got his head stuck in the stair banisters & for the life of me & my mother we could'nt figure out how.. So we cut a spindle to get him out... He was 7 years younger & always tattled on me ...

I was just the opposite, Cole. When I started farming full time I’d eat a big lunch. But pretty soon after that, I decided I’d better get myself used to skipping a noon meal altogether. Field work is sooo monotonous anyway (and this was way before GPS and auto-steer) I was having to fight drowsiness tooth and nail to stay awake. I’m long retired now and to this day I seldom have a noon meal.
