Bought one about 35 years ago, still using it. The first time I tried it the log split and flew about ten feet and bounced off the side of my truck. After that I figured out how to swing just enough to split the wood.

I was always taught to let the axe or maul do the work. Shift your hands as you drop the axe down and it shifts the weight to the head of the axe giving it more weight behind the chop.

It would be nice if you compared it with a normal axe. Also, cutting nice dry oak is going to split nicely with any axe, find different types of wood to split.

Hey so when you chop wood you start with your dominant hand at the throat (closest part to the head of the axe) swing down and slide your dominant hand to where your non dominant hand is (bottom of the handle). If you do this it will put less strain on your back and arms and the weight of the head will do all the work

My dominant hand stays on the very end of the handle, and the other hand slides and keeps the axe on its path. Quite the opposite of what you say
@droyce4596
@droyce4596 7 жыл бұрын
crashyburny MIT yes, this is also how I swing an axe. I have tried it the correct way, in which the dominant hand does the sliding, but its just so backwards to me, and I couldnt get used to it. Also, I think the power from the swing comes from the sliding hand, and my left (non dominant) arm is certainly much stronger than my right(dominant)

You should get some wooden pallets and stack your wood piles on them instead of leaving them on the ground. Helps to dry them out quicker and they’ll stay dry because when they’re on the ground the bottom row soaks up the ground moisture. Just a suggestion!!

a log splitter with a chain wrapped around the log, that way you can cut smaller pieces without it all flying apart. Also the chain helps concentrate the energy of the splitter so it is more effective.

Bought one of those back when they first came out. Disappointed! The theory was the side pawls would keep the axe from sticking if the log didn't split. It was heavier to swing and did stick.

Huh, with some durability enhancements on things such as the springs so it has a long life, it certainly seems like an effective ax to use, and honestly, they should bring it back. Maybe they could start off by contacting people who normally use axes to compare a standard to the Chopper 1 to show its used.

Seems cool and effective, but I wonder if a normal maul without the independent moving bits is just as effective.

Yeah, these were really awesome. The other great thing is that it would absorb some of the brunt force shock you would normally get into your wrists and forearms. I loved it back in the day.
