I was always taught to let the axe or maul do the work. Shift your hands as you drop the axe down and it shifts the weight to the head of the axe giving it more weight behind the chop.

Hey so when you chop wood you start with your dominant hand at the throat (closest part to the head of the axe) swing down and slide your dominant hand to where your non dominant hand is (bottom of the handle). If you do this it will put less strain on your back and arms and the weight of the head will do all the work
@jessewhite48647 жыл бұрын
Exactly
@jimihenrik117 жыл бұрын
I've been chopping wood for many years now. Sometime even very hard, branched wood. I've never done what you decsribed. Never have i had any problems with my back.
@crashyburnymit40807 жыл бұрын
My dominant hand stays on the very end of the handle, and the other hand slides and keeps the axe on its path. Quite the opposite of what you say
@droyce45967 жыл бұрын
crashyburny MIT yes, this is also how I swing an axe. I have tried it the correct way, in which the dominant hand does the sliding, but its just so backwards to me, and I couldnt get used to it. Also, I think the power from the swing comes from the sliding hand, and my left (non dominant) arm is certainly much stronger than my right(dominant)
@straittax93327 жыл бұрын

You should get some wooden pallets and stack your wood piles on them instead of leaving them on the ground. Helps to dry them out quicker and they’ll stay dry because when they’re on the ground the bottom row soaks up the ground moisture. Just a suggestion!!
