The nuttiest part of this is that they eventually folded this side-story into the main IDW Transformers universe. Shockwave (not the boat shockwave from the HoS comic, but the main-line Shockwave) is the cause of all the weird shit in the universe, basically. Reality is what happens when one of Shockwave's plans fucks up another one of his plans, basically. In this case, Shockwave found a bunch of Maximals and Predacons in stasis on Earth during the 19th century and decided to overwrite their memories with his fanfic versions of the classic characters to see how the war would play out on a barely-mechanical world, or because he was bored. I don't remember. Either way, the character of "Bumblebee" eventually wakes up in the modern era and figures things out and either takes or reclaims the name Centurion. IDW TF comics got weird, it's probably for the best that they lost the license, no matter how great the stories ended up being.
