I saw one comment about Aron from NU'EST and his rap "..dwarf and a giant.." To add on that, Aron is Korean American. Before he joined the group, he was planning to go to college as a journalist at New York University. Not sure if he had any influence for the rap lyrics but just a bit of info for non-ㄴ.ㅇ.ㅅ.ㅌ or in English, L.O.V.Es. I want to recommend their new song 'INSIDE OUT' or my all time favorite from them 'OVERCOME' which also got covered by Minhyun, another member from NU'EST and Joshua from SEVENTEEN. The cover is acoustics style with a flower shop setting. It's super relaxing and a sweet take on the very dramatic, elegant and powerful song.

Thank you for a great laugh. I have been around people trying to speak English since 1951. Actually, the hardest accent I have had to understand was the Finish accented English. Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Indian accents, I’m good. Finnish accent? It was a year before I could tell if the person was starting in English and swapped to Swedish in the middle by accident. I appreciate how hard English is, especially the pronunciation. There is often so little resemblance between the word and the sound! So, love when someone else enjoys the errors also.

I mean, some of these are actually fine e.g. this is a story of a dwarf and a giant - this is referencing the bible story of David & Goliath (though I don't think David was a dwarf? idk I'm atheist), english speakers use this as an idiom to mean a situation where a less powerful party takes on another and wins. And Beast's 'every day I shock' can be grammatically correct, maybe they mean 'every day I shock people'. And ToHeart's love is so delicious, nutritious... a little odd to use nutritious like that, but it's fine. It's pretty common to describe love as nourishing. There were heaps more but yeah.

the line "this is a story about a dwarf and a giant but it's gonna end just like david and goliath" makes sense if you look at the context since the song is about bullying and even though the main character is apparently helpless (the dwarf) against the bully (the giant), the end its gonna be like the biblical story of king david against goliath the giant, in which david wins using his wits and not his physical strength. tbh i like that line, and i love aron's voice

@susansheldon20333 жыл бұрын
Because international stans are used to interpreting Kpop English, I think we struggle less with the examples you gave and other English lyrics than you. You're the best ever come in my life = You're the best person to ever come into my life. "I"m addict = I'm addicted to you." There are times when I hear Kpop English lyrics and think, 'do the members of the group KNOW what they are saying?' "Fire in the hole when you touch me down there. I'm not feeling very well, so hot in down there. Fire in the hole when you coming right there, I'm not feeling very well so love me right here." All while wagging their bums at us. Wow, that's Cardi B level. And there are other times where I understand the words, but they're used in a strange way. Shindong says, "Just close your lips; shut your tongue" where people from the US would say, "Just shut your mouth; hold your tongue." Also, I don't think I've ever told someone to "shut your mouth"-- it's pretty rude, so if that was in a Kpop song I would ask the group to make very clear who they were directing that lyric at (their haters, for instance). In Mamacita, it comes off like Shindong is saying it to the listeners who speak English, so it's easy to cause offense when you don't mean it.

Y'all need to look up the English version of BoA's "Listen to my Heart". It was a bonus track on the LTMH Japanese single but oooooooo the lyrics are insane. Example: "Oh baby, what can you see in your eyes across an advance wind yeah. Imagine in the sky, what do you do you want, do you need..." 😑
