To add to the pie tradition, we do eat dinner. Usually after dinner you are too full to eat all the pie you want. So lunch is pie with some charcuterie boards to balance the sweet with salty. We do pie at noon and then turkey dinner at 6.

I like that because I'm always to full for dessert.

My grandmother used to make "birthday" balls for her grandchildren. It's a surprise ball that starts with a golden egg and is wrapped with miles of crepe paper which had coins & small gifts inside as you unwind it. She was always collecting the shiniest pennies for it! Then she would decorate it in whatever theme/interest the child had that year. Now that she has passed and my cousins & I each do it for our children.

We have close family friends that send out Groundhogs day cards and i love it so much, i look forward to it every year! It takes the stress out of christmas cards and you can just have fun with it. I like the idea of 4th of July photos in summer best, it would be so cool I still havnt figured which holiday i want to do our family photos for 😅

Totally enjoyed this episode! Looking forward to part 2! My grandma used to hand make an ornament for every person each yr. One year it was cloth rocking horses, another year sleds out of popsickle sticks and painted really pretty, or wooden pieces my grandpa cut and she painted, or crocheted bells, etc She was so talented! She has passed away, but I love seeing all the ornaments each year that remind me of her.

Every year after my son was born, we would hand make an ornament with his picture, name and year on it. Each year the new one would be added to the christmas tree. Now our son is 24 and the christmas tree is covered with ornaments from his childhood. I love looking at each one and remembering making them when we decorate the tree. Some years are ornaments he made in elementary school. I call it the Memories Tree.

Great topic! In our home a family tradition is our two girls slept in the same bedroom the night before every holiday. They would alternate rooms for each occurrence. They now have carried on this tradition with their own children!

On my husbands side of the family we have brunch/breakfast for Christmas dinner. After opening gifts we sing christmas carols & praise songs. On my side of the family we have lasagna for Christmas dinner. Then before dessert we pass out traditional English Crackers (poppers). We pop them all together and then go around and read the Bible verse that is inside which was picked especially for each person.

We do a Christmas treasure hunt! It started when I was 7. That year, my dad decided to hide our presents, and we had to search the house for them. So much fun! We've kept the tradition up in various forms over the years. I did it for my husband after we got married and now our kids. I'm especially looking forward to it this year with our 4.5 year old and 16 month old. Such fun ages!

We have many traditions (our little unit of 4), my two faves: the “elves” would leave small trinkets/treats in a pocket advent calendar my mother-in-law made. This year my hubby and I got to go on an amazing trip…that took place first week of December. Both our 16 yr old daughter and 19 yr old son were excited to stay home alone…until they realized that the “elves” would be traveling. “Bro! Who’s going to do the calendar!” “Momma, could you just gift wrap the weeks worth of surprises and set the up before you leave. Please!”😂❤️ Every summer we set aside ONE week for us to have our in-house family camp. The kids came up with the name when they were little. We pick out a bible verse and it becomes the theme of the camp. We have themed days (backwards day, giving day -we bless others-, dance night -we go all out-, water day -water activities-) the kids and I would do several things during the day, and save a fun activity for when dad comes home. We end the week with awards, a movie night (now that they are older we do drive-in), and a scavenger hunt. We are on 14 yrs…and they say they will continue with bringing their kids to our place for this when they get married ❤

Not to burst your bubble for your fun summer travel plans, but if you are planning to visit Southeast Asia its best to go between November and March! Summer is the rainy season and its extremely humid

We had Xmas eve at my grandmas senior living condo every year. The kids made a game called Twisty Noggin where my cousin does a trick and everyone copies it. We just run up and down the hallway to annoy the neighbors my grandma didn’t like. This year is the passing of the torch since generation 1 is grown up now. We all got robes and an orb and my cousin will hand down the “rule book” to my oldest nephew. I am SO EXCITED to get generation 2 in this now!!

I am the Christmas ninja. I wrap people in their rooms on Christmas morning. ❤️🎄 I go to the dollar tree or Walmart and buy the wackiest wrapping paper I can find and I used blue painting tape and wrap the over the door frame (print facing in) so people have to bust out of their rooms on Christmas morning like an NFL team busting through paper signs. This adds a little something extra special to christmas morning. From my 87 year old grandmother to my 7 year old niece they LOVE IT! The joy people have seeing what wrapping paper they get and the sounds of them punching through the paper fills my heart with joy. It's crazy to me how even such a small thing maybe 2-3 minutes on each door makes my family so happy. They look forward to it each year. ❤️😄 Tip (buy the cheapest and thinest wrapping paper you can find one year i found a cute one from hobby lobby but it was so thick my grandma had to peel it off to get out 😂 I have no idea what that stuff is made out of at hobby lobby 😅 for wrapping gifts it's great but for punching or running at it not so much haha🎉😂 )

We do the pickle ornament! It started with my grandpa. He’d hide it at the tree at their house, and all us cousins would nearly tear down the tree to find it. The winner got $10. I continued the tradition with my family. When it was just me and my husband, we would just alternate finding it and hiding it all throughout December. Now we have littles. Once they’re a little older, we’ll let them find it, and whoever does gets to open the first gift on Christmas Day. This is a popular tradition!

I was laughing so hard at some of these but with some y'all faces was priceless. And Shawn I agree the enema bag is just to much. Thanks for sharing we all need to laugh lately. I personally do not like the holiday time. I have to always say it's not because I don't like it or know the great stories with them it's just a very sad and lonely time for me. With that.... Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas!!!

#Traditions With a family of younger kids yet, we feel like we have our fair share of holidays with fancy meals and our picky eaters don't always get into it. So on Christmas day, our family of five does our "favorites" meal. I will literally cook five different meals, and serve it all on the same table. In the past we've had things like pizza and stir fry and mac and cheese and pickles and pancakes all on the same table. Everybody can have a little of everybody's. It's my kids' favorite thing and we've been doing it for years. ❤

My sister and I have created and carried out so many traditions for years that my husband joined in with when we got together. It’s been hard the older my sister’s kids get (as well as when we became overnight parents to 3 when we took in our first and forever foster placement 8 years ago) to keep those traditions going. It’s crazy because it’s not just me that’s struggling with it, it’s my husband that still gets frustrated not understanding why we can’t keep our Christmas Eve pajamas, movie night and Chinese food for dinner tradition going with our now very large families and my sister’s extended family of her adult son’s girlfriend. Because the older kids get and bring new into the family the more changes happen and you can’t always keep with what you’ve always done because they begin their own traditions on their own..😢

My favorite tradition we do is called cookie baking Sunday and on the first Sunday of December we’d all get together and make 1,000s of cookies literally. As a kid I thought everyone did this and even wrote about it as my favorite holiday in school. I was flabbergasted when I shared and no one knew what I was talking about 😂

My family would have full on super soaker and nerf gun wars on thanksgiving and Christmas. Every year we were looking for the biggest gun possible and it was war. I am the baby of the family (now 38) and I have been told many times how my mom used me as a human shield when I was born because why not! 🤣🤣🤣
