If I had a nickel for every time I’ve heard a ref in a football game say “they were giving them the business”, I’d have 2 nickels, which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice

Roughing The Snap[per]: When he has his head down and just snapped the ball, he is in a defenseless position by rule. When the guy basically neck-cranks him trying to block the kick, that's 15.

It's deeply unhinged that the NCAA tries to pretend they have decorum and ethics and shit, when they're a corrupt multi million dollar industry exploiting students. They can throw as many flags for "celebrating" as they want or whatever, they're still an amoral corporate entity giving 21 year olds head injuries in the hopes of winning the NFL lottery.

8:50 - I remember when UCLA and Arizona State faced off in 2013. UCLA had two of the same number on the field during a kick return. Arizona State elected to re-kick the ball. The snap went over the punter’s head on the re-kick, and UCLA recovered. So, UCLA were essentially rewarded for their error. UCLA were down by 22 at the half and nearly came back and won that game as well!

With these penalties you occasionally see thrown against home game fans for throwing stuff on the field, I have always wondered if fans from other teams watching the game ever throw more stuff on the field to drop flags for the other team.

USC Targeting: I'd call that more correctly Spearing. A lot of targeting calls are actually spearing (launching, using the helmet as a weapon). This one is spearing, and it carries the correct result: 15, automatic 1st down, ejection.
@WithTwoFlakes2 ай бұрын
The term "spearing" was taken out the NCAA Football Rule Book at least 15yrs ago. It was superfluous once the term "targeting" began to be used in the book.
@Cryolemon11 ай бұрын
Depending on the game situation I'd have been tempted to decline the illegal touching on 55 on that one play.
@WithTwoFlakes2 ай бұрын
Not sure I get why you might want to decline it? The play started as 3rd & 28 from their own 18. If you decline it, it's 4th and 16 from the 30. The penalty is loss of down at the previous spot so accept the penalty and its 4th and 28 from the 18.
