In Michigan we use 3 Rapalas on a 3 way rig. We call it piggy backing. We really hammer the walleye on them. My buddy and I caught 50 walleye in 4 hours on the St Clair River with this rig.

This is what I love about this channel! You are very open and honest with rigs you use and how to use them. Yes we as anglers still need to catch the fish, but not many share any of their secrets! I know you don't share all of them, but even sharing some is awesome and appreciated Noah!

Whipfishing the St Clair river in Michigan we have used 3 lures in tandem for 60 yrs or more,Raps Bombers,Thundersticks and Rebels and others. The term "Whip Fishing" a local term, is done while anchored and the lures are let back on a tight line with the sinker bumping the bottom. Quick limits!!

This rig can save a guy on some days. Another storage tip, I stick the pencil weight in a pool noodle and wrap the rig around the noodle. Stick the trebles in the foam and wrap second rig. Works great when you are done and always have the rig on stand by. Then I have a snap on main line and just clip it in. I Have some flies on another noodle so I can easily switch back and fourth.

We call it "Whipping" here on the Saint Clair river in Algonac Michigan. I usually use 3 rapalas, first lead, 10 foot, next 2, 5 feet. We normally fish this at dusk until everyone has their limit. Normally takes less that an hour....

Back when I ran a charter boat out on Lake Michigan I sometimes ran a flatline with a rebel or rapala off a three way. The other line I would attach a flutter spoon. The diving lure dug down and the flutter spoon followed higher and 4-5 foot behind.

im from Croatia (Europe), a saltwater fisherman. I see that you are rapala fan, i am aswell, but if we talk 'tight action', the yo-zuri crystal minnow is a god in that segment. Also, if it was me, i would use xrap on front and big maxrap behind. Then fromt lure (xrap) would have an action due to its wide action. I know that wont work there, cuz you literally need minimum of the minimum action, due to freezing temps, while our sea never goes under 50 farenheit haha. Btw. 20km from me, there is a river that was "recently" infestated with pikes that were not natural fish here. Fast forward, now we have pikes over 20 pounds, and its a normal daily catch. Sadly, its here in Croatia, cuz if it was in the US, i think you guys would make a world known fishing business around it, and it would be a top spinning destination !!!

@i1bike
@i1bike Жыл бұрын
@@jamielucchesi6057 We already invented a dish from pike. You dry it on dry cold north wind. Then after 2 weeks, take it down, clean it and let it sit in milk for one morning or afternoon. Then poach it just to remove the bones. Take big baking tray, put salt, black pepper, olive oil, onions, rosemary, bayleaf, potatoes and bake it until potatoes are halfway. Then add pike's meat and juices, mix it and let it bake until both are fully baked. Then make a pesto from olive oil, parsley and garlic, and pour it over the dish. Let it relax few minutes to aromatize together and then serve it. Its classic light mediterranean way of cooking for saltwatwer fish. And i can say, the pike done that way is quite ok. I am fishing and cooking my whole life, i have no reason to lie to you

That ladies and gentlemen is the Dubuque rig. A Bellevue rig has a jig on the bottom. You can use a Rapala, fly, floating jig, hook, etc up top. An ugly stick works great. You don't have to go top end with a pulling rod. Good luck. Be warned bring plenty of handkerchiefs. You are going to cry when you lose 2 Rapala at once. Been there

@MadisonAngling
@MadisonAngling Жыл бұрын
You have to check your state laws, but here in Wisconsin it's legal. We are allowed 3 lines/person - meaning 3 individual fish catching lures/baited hooks. This rig would count as 2 of someone's 3 lines.
@dlmsarge8329
@dlmsarge8329 Жыл бұрын
It looks good but I'll have to check to see if I could use it in Ontario, Canada. We can only use 1 line per person (except on most areas of the Great Lakes) and I believe 3 hooks on a rig, with treble hooks counting as 1 hook. Although maybe removing the back hook on the lead Rapala might get around that. Need to investigate.

Thanks for explaining a flipping switch didn't know how they worked. Is it legal to use two rods setup like that at one time you would be using four lures then and you are allowed three rods even though two is all I can handle at once LOL. Also is that a D&S bait hat can't quite read it in the sun. Also if you can a catfishing video would be kind of cool if walleyes get slow.
@MadisonAngling
@MadisonAngling Жыл бұрын
That is a great question! Yes, it would be illegal to run 2 rods set up this way (if you are fishing alone). Each individual lure counts towards your alloted 3 lines per person in Wisconsin. You could however run this rig, along with one other single bait/lure rod (3 individual lures total per person).

Noah! How do you net a fish by yourself with this rig?? Only asking because you’ve got six feet of line after the swivel.
@MadisonAngling
@MadisonAngling 6 ай бұрын
very long arms 😂 It's actually not too hard, especially in current since the fish are always going to be pulled down current away from you. Once they're on top, it's pretty easy to scoop them. with a longer rod the long leader isn't an issue. Great question!

Cool rig. Why do you prefer a 3 way over a bottom bouncer or snap weight?
@MadisonAngling
@MadisonAngling Жыл бұрын
That is a fantastic question! Honestly, you could run whatever weight system you like. I just like to use the same components I have laying around for the other 3 way style rigs. You could absolutely use bouncers, however they're more expensive to replace when you lose one on a snag.
@thelonesomefisherman7425
@thelonesomefisherman7425 Жыл бұрын
Maybe replace that second rapala with a fly? Also, maybe replace the front lure, 3 way swivel and weight, with a deep diving crankbait? Your rig would be illegal in Minnesota. Good tips and video, though.
@thelonesomefisherman7425
@thelonesomefisherman7425 Жыл бұрын
As a follow up, I've seen a similar rig in fisherman magazine for musky's. They used a ten inch Believer for the front lure and tied a leader length back to a Daredevil spoon. I've never tried it though. Here in minnesota I would have to remove the hooks from the believer to make a legal rig. On your walleye rig You could add a flutter spoon in place of the second rapala, but it would have to be light weight so it wouldn't sink and snag.
@MadisonAngling

You could absolutely use a fly behind the front floater! Also yes, this would be illegal in Minnesota

@@thelonesomefisherman7425 the whole idea is to have one lure that doesn't have as much action, and one that does. The goal with this rig isn't to have two lures with action, however you are correct

@MadisonAngling

I'm assuming you'll be in the Dells area? If so, a jig/half crawler is hard to beat. Additionally, smaller crankbaits like flicker shads, shad raps, and even salmo hornets casted or trolled along rocky banks and current seams can be killer during the summer months.
@dlmsarge8329
@dlmsarge8329 Жыл бұрын
@@MadisonAngling Do you use 2 hook spinner rigs with worms? That setup really works great for me here in Ontario, Canada. I'll use a bottom bouncer or later in the season (Aug / Sept) when they are more finicky 3-5 big split shot rigged inline on a longer leader. I kayak fish 5 or 6 days a week May- Oct and rarely get skunked when walleye fishing.

@madtownangler
@madtownangler Жыл бұрын
I think it counts one lure as one hook in total so he's using two hooks.
@MadisonAngling
@MadisonAngling Жыл бұрын
It does not. If that were the case we wouldnt be allowed to troll for walleyes with crankbaits (example - a size 12 Husky Jerk has 3 hooks on it). The 3 line rule indicates you are only allowed 3 separate lures/individually baited hooks per person. This rig counts as 2 of your 3 lines here in Wisconsin. Great question!
@CatfishandCrappie
@CatfishandCrappie Жыл бұрын
@@MadisonAngling Good to know! Thanks!
@MadisonAngling
@MadisonAngling Жыл бұрын
@@CatfishandCrappie the wording is really dumb in the regs, but it boils down to 3 lures (unmodified- can't add more hooks than it came with), 3 baits (3 live or dead baits), or 3 hooks (referencing a hook, line, sinker type rig). Otherwise a single #12 husky jerk could be the only bait you can troll walleyes with haha, which is silly. All good man. You can always call a warden as well if you ever have any questions about the regs. They are always happy to help!
