@@abysscallstoabyss55: I remember a song I heard on Dr. Demento about the banandine hoax. google isn't forthcoming with any results, even though I can recite the opening stanza and most of the chorus from memory: _Have you ever wondered why the monkey acts as if he's high?_ _The things he does are crazy as can be._ _Yeah well, that little funky monkey, that little jungle junkie eats bananas and goes swinging through the trees. BANANAS!_ _We want a pack of ripe bananas,_ (I forget this part) _ripe bananas,_ _Any menthol filter will do_ _Because there's nothing that say lovin'_ _Like something from the oven_ _And how can they bust you for smoking a piece of fruit? I can only imagine how it's like being in the middle of nowhere in the planet trying these awesome fruits. I live in Brazil where we have one of the largest varieties of fruit in the world, but 70% of them are not found in the markets, you have to dig for them in the middle of nowhere
@JuhpolАй бұрын
Imagine living in northern Europe where you have like a handful of native fruit and everything else is under a rock. Granted, many of the native ones are something not sold commercially anywhere, but still its just painful.
@magnumxlpiАй бұрын
@Juhpol what fruits are you talking about in Northern Europe? Everything seems pretty available there compared to Brazil
@gartengeflugel924Ай бұрын
@@magnumxlpidon't know about Brazil, but I'd just go out on a limb and assume the variety you can get there is far greater than here in central and northern Europe. Even Europe as a whole. Also the original commenter is correct, there are very few native fruits and those that are usable you have to forage for yourself as well. Most everything we grow to eat here is not from here and we import even more, and still I'm pretty certain in a huge tropical country like Brazil both the number of fruits grown commercially and foraged wild far, far exceeds those grown and available here.
@magnumxlpiАй бұрын
@gartengeflugel924 he said many of the native ones in northern Europe aren't sold commercially. But I can't think of any that aren't except maybe cloud berries but you can still find those pretty easy compared to Brazil where there's lots you won't ever see available at a market
@stevenmurray3238Күн бұрын
@@magnumxlpithere are some harder to find fruits of Northern Europe. Some would be common in East like black currants, white currants, flowering quince, bush cranberries/vacciniums, lingonberries, bilberries(sometimes called wild blueberries), there are a ton of wild wintergreen species some super endangered. Others are lost like trapa nuts, medlars, white beans(cornus fruit), the great giant stone brambles(giant tart raspberry looking things), sea berries are grown in Russia but wild in Scandinavia on coast, same with Russian olives, aronia(eastern Europe popular), fruiting Rosa’s like black hipped rosas, then you have the really cool super rare stuff like Nitraria siberica that lives on salt flats of Siberia and has fruits like salty grapes. But then it goes on from there

"Apple" because it's a random fruit that's not native to English speaking areas (see pineapple). They used to call everything an apple

@@thalesvondasos apple is a general word for fruit. Even in English and old English or older languages apple was not directly associated with the modern apples which come from Asia it was a term referring to any pear or apple shaped fruit. For example in the Adam and Eve the apples were white. . .
