Too many great memories of 1986. Graduating from college, moving to another state for grad school that fall. I couldn’t wait to go, but missed my family and our cats. Making new friends, seeing Top Gun, falling in love for the first time. Enjoying my independence, but feeling joy when my family came to visit. My parents were still in their 50s and pretty healthy. My sister turned 18 and we enjoyed getting to know each other as adults. I won’t ever forget this day or the Challenger explosion.

The Challenger was in January, and Chernobyl was in April. I remember both, and took part in Hands Across America. I remember the 80s fondly, especially the music, fashion, and movies. I remember the debut of MTV on August 1. 1981. It was channel 61 on cable in Phoenix, AZ where I lived at the time. The first video was "Video Killed the Radio Star" by the Buggles. I still have most of my clothes bought back then (yeah, they still fit fine---I'm thinner now), and my collection of Swatch watches I bought back then, which all work just fine. The only thing I didn't like about the 80s was shoulder pads---I removed them. (Jan Griffiths).

Maybe you overlooked the fact that the personal computer peaked in the 1980s by innovators like the young Bill Gates and Steve Jobs. My routine when I was 13 was going to record stores after school looking for the latest Jazz and Funk LPs. On weekends we go to the disco dancing with beautiful strangers and then drag racing our modified cars quarter mile best of three that was the culture back then. Of course not many 13 years olds had that privilege and experience since I don't live in the United States and the laws in our country was not that strict. Peace

The youth is getting indoctrinated with ideologies like critical race theory and gender studies who's consequences we are living through right now. Not only is it unscientific garbage but also causes more division than there has been in a long time. The US is on the brink of civil war because of it. People being silenced, canceled, smeared into silence all in the name of social justice and all because of the inability of people to use their own f'in brains. I wouldn't bring a child into this madness even if i was offered 100 millions to do it and i pity anyone that has to grow up in some of our current societies.

This was absolutely one of the very best years of my life! I wasn’t expected to graduate high school because my grades were so close to failing. I had passed all my classes except for one (English) and my teacher said she wouldn’t tell me my grade and I would just have to wait and see at graduation if I would get my diploma or not. I sweated it out for days and was scared I wouldn’t graduate. So the day comes and it’s getting closer to my name and then finally they say my name. My mom shouted so loud in the auditorium “thank you Ms McKibben”! Sorry so long but that lead me into adulthood and so many things, good and bad, has happened since then. But that’s one day I will never forget. Thank you for a great video

I was 8.

Johnny Rottenpiss thank you so much for your reply. I listened to all kinds of music back then. As long as it wasn’t classical, opera or show tunes, I listened to it. It wasn’t until around 1988 that I was turned on to the newer metal like Metallica. I definitely remember the Sam Goody stores and the malls. Back then going and hanging out at the mall or arcade were our social networking. We didn’t need a cell phone back then but now it’s so strange because it’s like we can’t live without it. @@sassykaren7587 1988 was the year I discovered Led Zeppelin when I was helping a lady set up for a garage sale and she let me go through her college-aged daughter's record collection and take what I wanted. As soon as I heard those albums, I knew I wanted to play guitar (though I was relegated to singer/harmonica/keyboards in my first rock bands). Also, I appreciate you delightful responses.
