Corsets are only painful when they're cinched too tight (like enough to move organs or make a person faint x.x). They're quite comfortable when cinched correctly. However, it also takes more time and effort to put on than, well, a flapper dress.

@bitch8205
@bitch8205 Жыл бұрын
I read somewhere that during the Victorian era, having a completely bald and clean-shaven pubic area was considered unattractive because it signified that the person had lice down there, thus the market for pubic wigs. If someone had plenty of hair down there, it meant they practiced good hygiene (or at least good enough to not have lice lol). I don't know if it's 100% true and frankly I'm too lazy to look it up right now, but I found that interesting

A few missed points about the Landsknecht: Imaging being so flush with cash you walked into a tailor and picked out all 5 of the most expensive cloths ever, no matter the color and said "Yep, I need all of them in a shirt", there ya go. They were also exempted from the sumptuary laws that legally defined what colors and clothes the social classes could wear, so a Mercenary could LITERALLY dress like a king if they wanted to, because the Emperor ruled their short miserable lives should have some fun in them while they were alive.

Oof the YT historical dress ladies are gonna come for your throat for misrepresenting corsets as "painful"🥲 they spend half their time debunking corset myths 😅. Just to clarify: corsets were nipped in at the natural waist and then flared out, tight lacing was painful, and rarely done.

The flapper section is wrong, actually! Love your channel but corsets were not actually painful to wear nor did they necessarily pull in the waist! (unless they were too small or you purposely tight-laced them, which people rarely ever did) Corsets were actually just bras! They corrected your posture and gave your boobs support, literally every woman had one even if she was a working-class laborer. The style of the 1920s did come from not having to wear corsets, but that was mostly because WW1 prevented the manufacturing of corsets (steel and fabric needed to be used for the military instead) and so the fashions changed to suit not wearing one.

The 00s fashions were some of them most diabolical trends I ever had the misfortune to live through. I was born in the early 80s and it went from a period at the late 80s through the super cool styles of the 90s to something I can only describe as a fashion designers fever dream, then a pack of designers then got together to decide lunacy would be the best way to go forward. Each decade from the Edwardian era to today had something special and epic about it but then you have the 00s!! The evil cousin that none of the family talk about.

This channel is a good for relaxing and pretty fun, there is no reason you can't be accurate as well. Corsets didn't accentuate diddly. They were and still are supportive garments when functional. They helped with bust and back support while maintaining the clothing lines. What accentuated shapeliness was the bust pads and bum rolls (depending on the portion of time period being discussed). A good corset will not be tight, it will be made to the owners measurements and sometimes with built in curves. These curves could be in any area but were to emphasize and work with the fashion trends. People didn't tighten corsets overly so to get shapes like in the photo used here. tightlacing is more a modern thing. People often forget that photo editing also existed back then. You could draw on the photo plate and either highlight or shade certain areas. Photography was expensive, a little touch up for the best picture didn't hurt. With google and youtube accessible to us, there is no reason to spread misninformation. It begs the question, if that was wrong are other things in this video incorrect?

You know if ironic that just about everything considered "feminine" and that no real boy or man would ever wear if they don't to be stereotype as "feminine" men, all were worn by men first and once considered to be manly. After WW2, there was a giant transition from what was considered "manly" and "girly". Even things related to the arts, music, dancing, painting, singing, boys would be literally punished if they showed interested in though things. Careers these days that are considered "girly" careers, were dominated by men for thousands of years and women weren't even allowed to do them until much more recent history, including nursing, teaching, gardening, dancing, acting, baking or cooking (except unpaid in the home), fashion designing, making clothes, flower arranging, being maids, secretaries, and many other very recent "women" careers. Even ballet and theater females have only been allowed to participate in in the last couple of centuries. Rarely the only careers that truly been woman's (some exceptions) careers over the centuries are midwives and prostitution, maybe private dancing or priestess in other cultures.

That reminds me of that old song called Masculine Women Feminine Men. Masculine women feminine men. Which ones the rooster? Which is the hen? It's hard to tell them apart these days!
