How did you get the transitions from the wide shots to the wheels so cleanly? Were they just sped up panning shots or zoom or something else(CGI)?

No sophisticated CGI here, just a bunch of camera and editing tricks! Those are 2 separate clips with Impact Zoom Blur transition between them.
