What a joy seeing the great grand daddies, the DXcs, looking marvellous in new paint, leading their grandchildren to the new world. I was shown the first DXs in Palmerston North in 1972, new, exciting, and huge in orange and yellow. That was more than fifty years ago. Haven't the DX's been amazing for so long?

At last we are importing European Manufactured Locomotives by a Swiss Company although these Locomotives were built at their Spanish Subsidiary in Valencia in Spain

You say that like it's a bad thing. Spain is not a manufacturing backwater. Aucklands electric EMUs were all made in Spain too, by CAF and they are way more reliable than those crappy, asbestos ridden Chinese tractor factory made DLs ever were.

Cheers for the vid mate!! Looking forward to seeing those locos out on the Midland Line

Hope they didn't drop any of the locos as they unloaded them. On 5th January 2011at Newport Docks, South Wales in UK, a delivery of Freightliner GE Powerhaul Class 70 locos was underway when part of the lifting gear failed and loco 70012 dropped about 20ft back into the hold of the ship, rendering the loco as unserviceable.

I can now understand why everything costs so much here in NZ At one part of this video i counted 16 people in high vis standing and watching with quite a few with hands in pockets. my old boss always said nothing gets done with your hands in your pockets.

Hope we see them on MNL before too long. How heavy a train will they be able to haul up to Elevation? Thanks for video Geoff.

They are for the south island lines, plus powered by the Caterpillar engine, I see national are apparently happy of the purchase, especially good for the future of the south island systems hopefully, 😊.

Don’t think National had anything to do with the purchase, or could have stopped it since they were paid for before the last election.

It's great to see National glowing with credit and approval for the work Labour did restoring the railways after the Key Years of neglect. It's a pity about the ferries and the `125 mill cuts to rail, (which may affect the recon of the EF NIMT locos) which show their Nat simple small-minded approach to critical services, hopefully, the decline will only be for a short time, this time. Dispite the political BS its good to see modern upgrades arriving on the track.

The design of the DM looks unusual, DL are better
@woodliceworm456518 сағат бұрын
It's the eye of the beholder for looks. As I understand it, the DM is state-of-the-art. DLs are old-school tech fair workhorses, useful but problematic. The DMs are today's Locomotives.

Bring back good looking locomotives the last 3 newer ones look like absolute shit

I hate to say, but I prefer the DL design over the DM, it looks far better.

Honestly the DM just looks like a European DL to me 😂
@danieleyre891322 сағат бұрын
DL’s are fugly boxy dated trash.
@gregnikoloff548820 сағат бұрын
These DMs look like "the future" to me. In a way that the DLs never did. Hopefully they'll sound like the future too being quieter under load. As quiet as a Diesel Electric can anyway. Those DLs had a nasty growling sound to them you could tell them from miles away. And that's *not* a good thing.
