@@michaelkores6860 And man from experience I know as he said this can be pretty strong! And you don't refuse local custom of it being offered. Once i was on the CFM train Chisinau-Moscow in 2015 going to Kyiv, and I was walking the hallway where the long and strong arm of the Train manager literally pulled me into his compartment and offered some home-made plum brandy (think it's called palinka there} in return for giving him some English conversation practice. Of course I was careful to partake with food - roast chicken, cheese, and some ukrainian sausage I bought from a babushka at a station stop, and I thought i was doing fine until the 6th or 7th shot when it hit me. I got pretty pissed, and with my compartment open I could've had my belongings including passport easily stolen (thankfully train was pretty empty). I was indebted to the junior conductor for keeping an eye on my stuff and also making make sure I didn't fall on my face getting down to the platform at Kyiv at 3am in the morning! At least being pissed on Palinka seemed to help border patrol go well with entering Ukraine (I seem to remember being laughed at by the female border patrol officer!)

Though this have been delayed many times due to various reasons, like a lack of trains and staffs and even signalling systems, and FLOODING around the border crossing between the Netherlands and Belgium this time. I hope once all the big track works are done, these will also run on another Slovenia-Croatia cross border route, Ljubljana-Pula, which is also a gem with some great scenery esp up on the ridgeline going down the Istrian Peninsula, and Pula is well worthwhile for a visit. It's a shame none of the rail youtubers have ventured on this route (though the past few years there's been extensive rail upgrading works on the Slovenian side of the border as i encountered last year). I have also "crossed"this path, or the part from Italy heading towards Ljubljana and onto Zagreb/Belgrade/Budapest back in 2009 when I took a seat on the Casanova Euronight night train that used to run from Venice. It would be so cool if that international night train was re-established. I agree that if they were going to use the Flirts for regional and international routes of 1.5hrs +, then they should've been fitted with seat back tables. That"s pretty poor by today's standards. These new trains also run internationally to Graz and to the borders of Croatia (Dobova and Metlika) as well as to Koper. Sadly they don't run this one to/from Trieste station which would have been absolutely fantastic. Seeing the SZ-fleet approved for Croatia in the future they can hopefully run those to Zagreb as well. You should join the inaugural Arriva RE18 tri-country journey departing Liège at 07:08 hrs. on Sunday, 30 June taking you to Aachen via Maastricht. The Maastricht/Aachen section has been operating since January 2019. The Stadler FLIRTs have three voltages capability; 3kV DC in BE, 1.5kV DC in NL and 15kV AC in DE. The units each have two pantographs, one for the DC voltages and the other for AC. The new rolling stock will replace the sad looking NMBS/SNCB cars between Liège and Maastricht. The only downside is that for the short term the Dutch OV Chipkaart cannot be used on the journey through to Liège.

In the past, that journey would not have been an international one since the whole area of the line this train travelled were Italian territory (even Rijeka itself was Italian and still has the headquarters of the Italian Minority institutions in Croatia). Sadly, it will be long before they even consider to extend this service to Trieste since those trains are not equipped with the right voltage required to travel into Italy and indeed it is faster to teavel from Villa Opicina to Trieste by bus due to the long loop that trains need to get to enter into the city as a result of its landscape

Very nice video! A very unique one as well! Do you know if this train is available on Interrail? Btw, imagine if this line used pendolinos! We could see a Slovenian Pendolino and an Italian one coupled

It is valid with Interrail as far as I know, as it is just a regular train. No seat reservation or payment needed. Slovenian Pendolinos used to run through Villa Opicina in the past, by the way, and continued to Venice... Slovenian pendolinos are single system, so they could do the Italy and Slovenia part of the trip (as they share the same electrification system), but not the Croatian part. That said, given there's only 3 of them, I doubt they would use them for a non Ljubljana Maribor route.

once a day is a bit disapointing considering that when i'm on holliday in croatia i'd totaly do a rail trip to some random military museums when they are connected enough
@dannyboy-vtc57416 ай бұрын
Oh you got local trains for that for sure, in season probably seasonal trains, shouldn't be a problem. I bought a train ticket from rijeka to pula, somewhere in 92, was used to trains in flat slavonia, didn't get it that those two don't have a direct connection thru istria, got gobsmacked when we showed up on the border, luckilly even in 92, you could pass it with just an i.d. card, so they told me i had to change trains in pivka and divaca again, and after 6 hours, 2 border crossings and 3 trains i got to pula finally - it was definitelly an experience haha!
@DerZocker20000006 ай бұрын
@@dannyboy-vtc5741 yeah, but 6 hours of traveeling one way is a bit much for a daytrip
@dannyboy-vtc57416 ай бұрын
@@DerZocker2000000 nope it's not 6 hrs, that was in 92, rijeka pula connection, and they cold blooded sold me a ticket not warning me what it is for, i've got half way to ljubljana then back thru entire istria to the point of istria where pula is situated. To that military museum you have maybe an hour ride, hour and a half at most. I went from one croatian city to another thru two train changes in another country, like a verly long v path instead of a short straight line, as the railway tunnel thru ucka mountain does not exist yet, only a road tunnel, i think that trip was also longer by mileage than this one bwtween three countries, pula is not connected with the rest of croatia, except thru slovenia, and that is also the round way. It's a curiosity, i like those trips arpund thru local trains when i have time, like here when i went to zagreb, i'm on the northern line along drava river, but sometimes i'd go down south thru one local and hilly line in slavonia, and then via southern slavonian line, along sava river toward the west and zagreb, later in late 90s they reconstructed the third line, a local one that goes thru the middle, also bit hilly for this part of the country, which is rare for a line that was closed down already in yu times to be reconstructed later when railways generally had less funding due to war and other expenses, but i've got technically three routes to zagreb to chose from my town, and that is a lot compared to southern parts of croatia like dalmatia or istria. Sorry for a rant, but yeah, no you don't have 6 hrs to that museum, it's a misunderstanding, an hour or a bit more, google it before you go to your vacations.

@@dannyboy-vtc5741 tbh i only was a passenger on my hollidays to croatia till now, maybe i get to get to travel alone next year, if that's the case i'll have to travel via train, bus or ferry anyways because i don't have or want a drivers licence thanks for your advice, i hope i remember it in a year ^^
@dannyboy-vtc57416 ай бұрын
@@DerZocker2000000 oh yeah, train is good where you have it, bus is a replacement, but the bus, a local bus is great if you are in a bigger city and wanna explore beaches around, local city buses are great means of cheap but reliable transportation in any bigger coastal city, usually you can reach smaller towns on the outskirts not just the city area. And ferries are the best for me, if you don't have a car to pay for, then they are cheap for just a passenger, and in the season they practically go non stop, if you are in split, zadar, sibenik, rijeka you can spend every day on another island. I especially loved the ferry that went along the coast and connected coastal cities, it started during the war because the main coastal road was cut in at least one placdle by the occupiers, the night ride, full deck of young people with guitars, it was awesome, i was young too, then it got cancelled with time, but during the corona it was introduced again, not sure if it covers the entire coast, but it did traverse that part between istria and dalmatia, that is less touristic, mpre windy and mountainous part without bigger cities, so you could travel between rijeka and zadar or split the sea route, that is awesome experience, and i think still exists, also dubrovnik, split and zadar are connected with italy with ferries, to bari and ancona, perhaps rijeka with venice, not sure about that, i guess more a seasonal type connection, but yeah, bigger islands have local bus lines too, and you can rent a scooter or a bike, but yeah there's a lot of ferries to a lot of islands, great means of transportation, also faster catamaran boats just for passengers or in some rare cases even classical passenger boats/ships, the best form of transport for me on holidays for sure. Cheers!
