Fun fact if you didn’t know! This game is actually based on a real place, Kowloon Walled City in British Hong Kong, which started as a imperial chinese fort before it was leased to the UK in 1898 and became what we now know it as. Like the game shows, if they could do it each new building was built on top of the previous one, as doing that was cheaper than actually paying for a new lot of land. It was officially evacuated, after a hard resistance from the residents, and demolished in 1993-1994. Edit: more info in comments if interested

The only ‘laws’ this place had was that it’s buildings could not go over regulations for air fields. It was 300 high rise buildings and interconnected, and with the housing crisis that came, at Kowloon’s very peak it had over 33,000 people at 6.4 acres. To visualize, 1 acre is very close to one football field, so this place was almost as big as 5-ish football fields side by side filled with that many people

The situation of this game still lingers irl , but less filthy because many people can't afford to live in an actual flat that are provided by the government. Usually these "flats" only has a bed, and have a tiny kitchen & toilet if being generous, tho the price isn't all that generous as the monthly cost usually clocks in half or 3/4 of their wages, and if the "flat" had a seperate bathroom and kitchen for you, it costs extra bills. They are terrible and fine at the same time, as it's still better than living in the streets. That's Hong Kong for you
