Fuckihn true, I been thinking of this quite a lot lately, I’m always focusing on abstractions, out of myself, trying to articulate the world around me in a series of concepts and relations, and I’d be all the afternoon thinking about it, trying to “understand” and then, looking through the window, I “snap”, I notice and say “what the hell am I doing?” And it feels like if there is a wound in my head, an open wound that I use to get out, and then going “back to life” is like putting a costure to it, closing the wound as many times as I need it.

3 takeaways that blew my mind - 1. Life is a juice to be squeezed, not a situation to be remedied. 2. Stop "Living Because of" and start "Living For". 3. Stop trying to enjoy life and start trying to be useful and you'll find that life becomes more enjoyable. Absolutely outstanding video with impeccable articulation of absurdly complex but meaningful lessons.

Yours is a very interesting take on existentialist thought. It reminds me of Jean-Paul Sartres work ´Being and Nothingness (1943)´ where he says after laying out his argument of why Humans have free will, he says: "Man is condemned to be free; because once thrown into the world, he is responsible for everything he does.". Sartre argues that without any inherent meaning, essence, or divine guidance, humans are fully responsible for creating their own values and determining the meaning of their lives through actions. Since there is no preordained human nature, individuals must take full responsibility for their actions and decisions. Every choice a person makes not only defines themselves but also sets an example for humanity as a whole, since our choices reflect what we believe all humans ought to do. With the burden of complete freedom comes the experience of existential anxiety or "anguish." This is the realization that every choice could be made differently, and there are no external guides or excuses (such as religion, fate, or societal rules) to fall back on. We must confront the fact that we alone are accountable for what we become. Sartre calls for living authentically, which means embracing this freedom and responsibility rather than denying it (what he calls "bad faith"). Bad faith involves deceiving oneself by blaming external circumstances, other people, or societal roles for one’s choices. Living authentically means acknowledging the freedom to choose and acting in line with this recognition, even in the face of anguish. In the absence of any objective meaning to life, we are responsible for creating values through our actions. Sartre rejects the idea that there are universal moral truths. Instead, he believes that values are subjective and must be created by individuals, based on their personal commitments and projects. However, I disagree with your characterization of the ripple effects of science. Science was never intended to provide anything beyond a 'because of,' an explanation of causes. In revealing the mechanisms behind phenomena, it did strip away certain superstitions, but in doing so, it merely highlighted how elusive it can be to find something truly 'worth living for.' I believe you've framed this in a way that casts science negatively in the context of life's meaning. Yet, science itself is a testament to human beings seeking purpose-dedicating their lives to the pursuit of what they find meaningful. You're right in noting that those engaged in scientific work don't experience a sense of meaninglessness, because they are too absorbed in pursuing what truly matters to them.

I think you hit the nail on the head at the beginning, the duality of the world where you don't reject the ascribed beauty nor the mechanism. To me leaving your faith is a sign of immaturity, I say this not to belittle but because where I live people know nothing of religion and nothing of God. Science usually supports Christianity I can't speak for any other religion In regards to this. Go out and seek beauty even when there is an explanation for it. I wish you all a blessed day.

I mean the “teaching ability” of the human race has only gradually increased knowledge over time. What might have been quantum mechanics to people from before, such as imaginary numbers, is now taught to and understood by kids. Probably what practically happens is people learn from multiple people and sources and also can build on top of ideas by themselves.

This is, more or less, how I'm getting out of quite possibly the most depressing, soul crushing time in my life. I also think it's important to note that, for a lot of us, especially those of us with naturally optimistic tendencies but have lost practical focus of those tendencies, there's a difference between saying that you KNOW something matters, and ACTUALLY showing or making it matter/a priority to you. I neglected myself for damn near a decade because of burnout, and when I fell in love, it kind of kick started the "meaning making" part of my brain, but even then, it unfortunately took a series of unfortunate events that might've made that relationship a near impossibility in the future to actually get me to do anything meaningful with my life. Because there's almost as big of a difference between feeling meaningful and acting with meaning, as there is being made of matter, and actually mattering. I live my life so that I will never repeat the same mistakes, and so that I and the people around me may have as free lives as humanly possible. As well as for even the slim chance that I might get back what I lost, or at least undo or mitigate the damaged I caused with my carelessness. I have lived constantly saying that I KNOW I'm important, but it means something entirely different, when as a result of you not doing the physical and practical things to take care of yourself, you let someone else down who you actually care about and vice versa. Meaning isn't just something that you have, or something that you are, it's something you DO. You can either act intentionally, or you can say "screw it, my life isn't gonna change in one day" every day, and you can slowly and painfully learn the same lessons I did. I know without a doubt, whether there is a god or higher power in this world or not, I matter, and that is equal parts blessing and responsibility, and despite the consequences for failing in that responsibility, I would NEVER call it a curse even after what I've been going through. Scientifically speaking, existence is an anomaly, and out of such tiny odds, we exist anyways, we are the winners of the cosmic lottery, and many of us hate it. But we don't have to, because again, against all odds, none of us are on this planet alone. We are impossibilities inside impossibilities, on infinite structures of infinite luck. And where some may see nihilism, I, and many others, see opportunity. Even if you DO have a bet placed on your religion or spiritual system of choice. Ultimately, the only thing we are guaranteed, is this moment, and even that wasn't guaranteed until just now. Don't wait for your meaning, don't expect to be gifted a meaning, MAKE your meaning. Be it spiritual, social, economical, SOMETHING. Because ultimately, we are all living for each other and ourselves. We are a constant ripple from the highest bird, to the lowest ant, and all the way back to the most recent birth of the planet's newest baby, human or otherwise. Though to not get too metaphysical- Just start, by living for whatever you care about most, try things, there are no wrong answers, and you can change at any time. Just whatever you do, follow through.

We exist to exist. We are of the universe experiencing the universe. To ants we seem as gods, to galactic sized cosmic ants, we would see them as gods. Go out and enjoy it because we know of no alternative other than nonexistence. Learn as much as you can, to know as much as you can, about yourself/the universe. Your blend of experiences/conclusions/hopes/narrative is unique. You matter. Only you can do you. Life is hard. Try not to make it harder. Tell the truth, to lie is to want to undo reality, to deny the universe. Folly for folly's sake. Speaking the truth is a form of prayer. Math is the purest language we've created, and even in it, natures most fundamental constants are called irrational. Clearly there is more than meets the eye. Clearly there is more to learn. And thank God for that. I don't want to live in a world where everything has been figured out.
