The more seedling videos the better! I’ve got about 200-300 seedlings ages from just, sprouted this year through 2 years old. There’s not enough people just talking about growing these from seed as there are people talking about growing them from grafts
@lonestarpatriot876
@lonestarpatriot876 3 ай бұрын
I have seen videos about growing them from seeds. Mr. Maple has done atleast one video about it. It is a pretty easy process. There are several legitimate reasons you see more about grafted trees. Mr. Maple is in the business of growing specific cultivars. They sell some seedlings, but that is not the bulk of their business.

thanks for sharing! I have an amateur mikawa factory in my backyard, it's fun growing from seed. Will we see mayday seedings one day? I saw the video about the big bucholz mayday =)

I'm a horticulturist. I AM SO CURIOUS! Can I ask, how do you guys certify your cultivars? Can anyone call a seedling a cultivar or are there requirements with a registeration? How do you protect your named cultivar from someone else propigating it? Also, is there genetic testing to make sure it is a Mikawa child? Also, whoes name is tied to the cultivar name? Are there royalties when selling the specific cultivar? So, is a new cultivar like an invention? Would you have a patent on it? Are you allowed to share this information or is it a trade secret? I would be very pleased if you could help me understand. Thanks.

@@MrMapleShow I do appreciate this video about what is a cultivar is but I kind of knew about the traits. As per my questions, the legalities, the patenting, the process of registering, how are you "the namer" tied to the cultavar name and so forth. As you can see from my original question. I'm still curious. Thanks. I feel like these are trade secrets that nursery people won't tell landscape designers.
@MrMapleShow
@MrMapleShow 3 ай бұрын
@@Justin-PLLD the vast majority of maples are not patented. This process must go through the US Patent office for application. Very few got this path as there are alot of similar traits. Most plant registration for maples goes through the maple society but it is a flawed process. We evaluate maples for the 5 & 7 rule here. We compare the top 5 things closest to it. Then we evaluate for 7 years. We must be able to explain how it is superior or different to those 5 for it to continue.
@Justin-PLLD
@Justin-PLLD 3 ай бұрын
@@MrMapleShow Wow, I did not know this. It's kind of amazing that it's a 7-year process. Thank you for that information. I'll have to look into the maple society to find out more about it. I wonder if there's a database for plant species and their cultivars. And what type of botanical or horticulture group or society holds on to this information. I know that nurseries like Iseli have so many cultivars protected. Companies like these growers, I think, kind of hold a monopoly on all these plants. I'm starting to get interested in growing plants and selling them. I would love to learn more. You guys are full of great information. Thank you for your videos.
