My family moved to the US when I was 7 (now I'm 20) and I haven't been back to visit Moldova in a really long time, but I miss it so much. We lived in a village too so this reminds me a lot of what it was like. Thank you for the video. I do feel a bit sad for the dogs. Most people in villages keep them as guard dogs and they are always on a chain.

Hi Djulieta! I love your videos; the way you talk about your country shows how much you love it, and now that I've come visit this country can tell why. Right now I'm at Chisinau, and I'm very surprised! this city is amazing, the food is really good (followed your suggestion from previous video and try Sarmale, it was delicious!), the people is very kind...Leaving soon this country, but totally in love with it. Greetings from a Colombian boy in Moldova

The building, the rural street, your granmother's dress, the dog and the others details of the Moldova countryside landscape, remind me my birthplace, the south of Italy. What a genuine is this videos and what a beautiful is the semplicity of our places, Moldova and south Italy. Many things in common we have in our cultures and life approach. Maybe for this reason I'm starting to love Moldova and its people.

A lot of western countries are really trying to make a move back to "homesteading" like this. Self-sufficiency is so important. Many people move away to the cities and within a generation or two they lose the skills needed for basic survival. It's refreshing to see this traditional Moldovan village home and how your granny is able to self-sustain. Thank you for sharing!

Pickled cucumbers in your Grandma's cellar! I make them every year! I wonder what is your recipe. Please - let me know. We have many ones: For semi-pickled ones it is the same as below but we use large, wide, open jars or pots and we let the cucumbers pickle for just few days in room temperature. For real pickles, winter-lasting cucumbers, we use hot but not boiling water poured over cucumberd in jars, with a lots of (sort of overgrown) dill, garlic, some vine or oak leaves, and a bit of horseraddish root. Delicious! Everyone in PL has a bit different recipe. I am sure you make it perfect in Moldova. There are only few countries in Europe where people still make home pickles. I live in an apartment building where every flat has a small cellar in the basement and most people keep their home-made pickles there. I am sure that you go to pick up wild mushrooms in Moldova. I love to do it in Poland. In the west you can taste wild mushrooms only at expensive restaurants, I believe, but here it is a common thing and we are well-stacked with dried, pickled or frozen mushrooms. BTW: Leżanka in Polish means "a place to lay down", leżeć = lay down. Kalosz in Polish is the same - a rubber boot to walk in rain/mud/water 😀. Bună dimineaţa and mulţumesc Djiulieta!

I still grow honey suckle but we burned down the loo after putting up addition with inside plumbing. I’m retired now and living simple life on a few acres of land with orchard garden and cold springs, it’s nice and quiet, but now that I’m not allowed to go to town much because of covid I’m starting to miss being around people.

I enjoyed the inside look at the real Moldova. I myself immigrated to the US with my family in 1967 when I was 8 from Portugal. I have many wonderful memories of my country. We didn't have much, but what we did have, we cherished. Some of my fondest memories are of when when we stayed with my grandparents who lived in the countryside much as your video shows of Moldova. Running barefoot, getting cold water from the well, cooking on a wood furnace, and yes visiting the outhouse with a lantern in the middle of the night. What makes me very sad today, so many decades later, is going on Google Earth and looking at the area where my grandparents lived. Everything has vanished, replaced by roads, factories, and even sewage treatment plants. It is so sad to me that the place which I have so many beautiful memories, is now gone forever....I liked your video, but did not enjoy the snarkiness and lack of respect. Do not joke about your beautiful land and the hardworking people such as your grandmother. She has probably gone through many hardships and pain, such as you will never know. Learn to appreciate your wonderful heritage and culture. I'm not Moldovan , but I can appreciate all the wonderful things which your video displayed. Good luck, and may you one day feel about your country as I feel about my country of birth, Portugal...
