This is awesome, thank you for your passion and skill in making these videos so I can learn this game. I’ve been collecting this game since 2007 and even used to have the board game! Never knew how to play, and now I just might. Thanks again!

As both a Christian and a veteran magic the gathering player, I have to say I was delightfully impressed with my first introduction to Redemption here! Looking forward to doing more research and giving it a go as soon as I can. I do feel it's probably going to much more difficult to find people to play against in my area(Champaign IL) any tips on where to find other players guys?

So glad to hear you're giving Redemption a shot! Official tournaments are posted on the Cactus Games website. Things being what they are with the pandemic, the regular tournament schedule is a bit chaotic. You may have better luck going on to the Redemption message boards, also accessible via the Cactus Games website, and seeing if people are available to play online. And hey, if all else fails, it would be my pleasure to play with you myself!

So the 5th edition starter decks seemed to have just released and are based off of Old Testament heroes. Would it also be worth it to get the 4th edition starter set? Or would the decks in that set be outdated?
@SignoftheStar Жыл бұрын
The 4th Edition starter decks are actually as far back as you can go and still be tournament legal. They were the first cards printed using the updated card format. As for how good the cards are- while they are of course pretty basic, as the point of them is to teach people how to play, some of the cards are absolutely viable. The Evil Dominant Vain Philosophy is severely underrated, the Evil Enhancement Twice Afflicted should always be considered for Orange defenses in my opinion, the Hero Jephthah is honestly still pretty good, and both of the Meek angels in those decks- Angel at Bethesda and Legion of Angels- are now surprisingly powerful now that Meek cards have support. Among others!

As a person who is into card games and not really religious, I definitely have to say that this game seems very solid as a TCG. The Positives: seems to have Good card art, anyone who has played Magic the Gathering should be able to enter it quickly, would be interesting to implement into theology classes as a learning tool. Negatives: The odd placement of text on earlier cards, needing a guidebook to look up the the Old and New Testaments, and an odd layout for the game board. Overall, 3.2/5.0
@SignoftheStar8 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching the video, Adam! I really appreciate your response! The text placement on earlier cards just wasn't a good idea. As mentioned in the video, it wasn't a big deal when the game first came out because special abilities were short, simple, and rare. Thankfully it's different now, but the card reformat took a long time to come to fruition. Admittedly, the most anticipated target audience of the game would likely be able to tell Old Testament books from New Testament books, but of course, for newcomers that don't know anything about the Bible, it certainly contributes to the already considerable learning curve of this game. Again, admittedly, the Territory is kind of a big cluster of different card types. A lot of players just sort of throw things into their Territory wherever, but it does get a bit messy. I like to keep mine organized like I presented it here in the video. It's something I've never really thought about. I guess I've just gotten used to it. These are only the most basic rules. Hopefully one of these days I'll get into all the other card types and core rulings. I hope you'll stick around for that as well! Thanks again!

Awesome Awesome video! Thank you! I do have one question. I wanted to verify. The enhancement cards are only able to be used once and then discarded?
@SignoftheStar3 жыл бұрын
Yes, that's correct! When the battle is over, all Enhancements that were used in battle are placed in the discard pile. However, there are some important exceptions. You will learn about them in the next video!

I was taught this game recently it is a pretty cool game, although the negate chain to me is a bit messy since it allows the effect of the previous card be played which leads to some odd gameplay like if a card had someone discard 5 cards from the top of their deck or UNDERDECK them. They then grab them back again and put them on top.

I happened to find a copy of the old 10th anniversary set in the green tin just chilling at my local Christian Book Store a couple years ago. I bought it instantly. I haven't had a chance to learn the rules but I definitely want to break it out and get playing.

SignoftheStar would you say the game is pretty casual compared to say, yugioh or magic the gathering? Like could I teach anyone to play, regardless of experience with card games?
@brewin_bruin5 жыл бұрын
Richard Grey oh heck yeah. This game isn’t very well known, so there isn’t exactly a large competitive scene. I would suggest getting two starter decks to share with a friend. After that, play casual games and build your collection. There are Christian bookstores that sell this game. There are new card sets coming out every so often, so keep your eye out!

Okay so I'm really confused. Does one player have a Bad Guy deck and other uses a Good Guy deck, or do decks just always have both? If so how does that make sense in a biblical context?
@SignoftheStar3 жыл бұрын
Ah, glad you asked! Excellent question, Colin! Normally, a Redemption deck will contain both good and evil cards. While there is no requirement in Type I deck building rules to have evil cards in a deck (or good cards, for that matter), it is generally very difficult to win with a deck of just Heroes or just Evil Characters. Without Evil Characters to block your opponent's Heroes, all of their rescues will succeed, making it very easy for them to win. Without Heroes to rescue your opponent's Lost Souls, you cannot win the game (although some very fancy decks have used their cards to convert their Evil Characters to Heroes to solve this problem!) As such, 99.99% of all serious Redemption decks have both Heroes and Evil Characters. My favorite part of this is what it means for you, the player. At different points in our lives, we make good decisions and evil decisions. Some days you side with Saul the Pharisee and some days you side with Paul the Apostle. But no matter what happens, the game is won by whoever rescues the most Souls, which means that the game is designed to show that, no matter how hard they fight, although they may win battles, THE EVIL CHARACTERS CAN NEVER WIN THE WAR. All their efforts are subservient to God's ultimate plan. The Evil Characters are never more than temporary obstacles that the Heroes always defeat with the help of God and His gifts. So now you, the player, having seen and even used for yourself the powers of both sides-- which side will YOU chose to be on? The fearsome but ultimately powerless forces of evil doomed for failure, or the sometimes humble but always valiant servants of the Most High destined for victory?
@cwinship3 жыл бұрын
@@SignoftheStar oh wow i didn't expect an actual response let alone a good paragraph on the matter, so thank you! Yeah that all makes sense to me now - evil alone definitely can't win both in real life, or in the game, and nobody is perfect so of course that would be represented by a deck having both! my mum and i are thinking of getting this game and actually we literally just watched this video haha and that's one of the things i was most confused about, so thank you! Keep up the good work! 😁

Quick question, what happens when both of character's special ability are that they negate each other? Like the hero negates the evil character's ability, but the evil character negates the heroes ability. Take for example John from the I deck and Foul Spirit form the J deck.
@SignoftheStar2 жыл бұрын
Another good question! It's important to keep in mind that a negate ability stops both abilities that have already been activated and abilities that have not activated yet. When John starts a battle, he is negating all Evil Characters in play, particularly those that enter battle after him. This means that Foul Spirit's ability is negated before it gets a chance to negate John. In order for Foul Spirit to negate John in this situation, his ability would have to read "Negate Heroes. Cannot be negated." or "Negate Heroes. Cannot be prevented."

Banding question? If my opponent has 4 cards banded and I use Angel of the Lord on first evil character who started the band are all other cards discarded due to the chain falling apart? Do they go back to the territory? Or do they stay in battle?
@SignoftheStar7 жыл бұрын
Ryan Andrews Good question! The answer is no. Angel of the Lord only discards the targeted Evil Character. Not only do the other Evil Characters not get discarded, but they don't even leave battle. The band ability was never negated, so the Characters stay where they are. This is one of the big advantages to banding chains.
