This will probably die in the comments, but I need to vent so fuck it. My dad died recently. About three weeks back now. It's been hard to enjoy anything without him around. It started with eating (I couldn't stand the thought of enjoying a meal in the wake of his passing), then with reading or gaming or other leisurely activities (how can I have relax & have fun when he's gone), and finely with music (something which I have always found solace in, but actively avoided b/c I didn't want to try & paint over his death in my heart with a soundtrack). But this song literally describes where I'm at right now. I'm mourning my dad, remembering all the good times we had, desperately trying to crystalize his presence in my mind, and comforting my mother as we both try to put our lives back together. Moreover, it expresses something I've realized is really, really important. That instead of just grieving, I want to try to celebrate my dad's life & his legacy. I want to remember him warmly and carry his spirit of optimism through my life; a personal black parade in honor of my dad. It's funny though, b/c this song is also a recurring feature in drunk gaming/karaoke playlists I share with a good friend. I can't count how many times our whisky addled brains thought it would be a good idea to scream this song at the top of our lungs while playing Rocket League. I can't help but laugh thinking about it. And so here I am, typing out this long ass post, tears in my eyes thinking about my dad, and chuckling softly over benders past. Life is a mixed bag, isn't it? Anyway, thanks for reading all this, if you happened to have literally nothing better to do. Now go touch some grass, and appreciate what you have while it's still around.
