Danville is located in south-central Virginia along the North Carolina border, within a day's drive of two-thirds of the nation's population.

It's refreshing to see someone say something positive about Danville! So many of the comments are negative. I grew up there as well. I live in Atlanta now, but I think of Danville often.

I think Danville will become a popular place to live in the future due to its lost cost and job opportunities. The interstate highway, once it's completed, will change things for the better as well business-wise. The new casino will attract folks to the area in droves in the not-so-distant future. Virginia is a great state. Danville will be one of its finest cities.

Usually when a casino moves in it doesn’t make things better for that city just saying let’s see how it goes

Danville is full of bad memories and trauma for me. My father lived here with my step-mother. My step-mother was a sweet, kind, wonderful person. My father was an abusive monster. I'm so happy to be farrrr away from Danville because of the trauma he created there for me.

The 'River District', as they call it, is the size of a postage stamp on the map of Danville. It consists of maybe 2.5 miles square. The rest of the town is a ghetto, literally. I regret moving here. And, BTW, Danville is not a city. A city, by definition, must have a population of 50k or more. Danville, according to the last census report, has less than 50k inhabitants. If you are seriously considering moving here, I strongly urge you to do your homework. Southern VA is a wasteland. Trust me. It takes one whole hour to drive either north or south to reach civilization. If you drive east or west, there is nothing. On the other hand, if you like to drive ... And, if you have health problems, don't even bother considering Danville. The hospital and doctors will either make you worse, or kill you. Duke University Hospital is (you guessed it) an hour away. I've had the unfortunate experience a few times. I say these things in all seriousness, and I wish it weren't true, but it is. Lastly, take this in mind: They are still fighting the Civil War in Danville. Confederate flags are everywhere. Every Saturday a considerably large group of people line Main Street and Riverside Drive waving Confederate flags because the government took down the Confederate flag from the Danville Museum. They won't stop doing this until the flag is restored to the museum.

@@oneobserver2260 Moving around is not my favorite thing to do, and by the time I realized what Danville really is, it was a little too late to pack it all up again. Like I said, do a good amount of research before you move here.

The White People In Danville Are Different. What I mean is that they are not friendly at all. I grew up in Charlotte NC, and was born in Danville but left when I was like 11. To my point the white community in Danville are not friendly I honestly think they racist or just don’t want nothing to do with the black people in general. Like I said I grew up in Charlotte so its very diverse there people from all over the world. When I come to Danville to visit and try to interact with the people there I get a very weird vibe and stares kinda creepy. Then I drove around and notice plenty of Confederate Flags Flying I Said Ooohhhh I see why I’m getting weird vibes and stares. It’s like Danville is Stuck in The 50’s

The River City with a River District that will no longer have its beautiful, wide river because the city in their infinite economic wisdom (sarcasm) will be removing the dam that makes the city have a big river. It will no longer be the River City is will be the Rock Creek city or Dry Riverbed city. Bye bye scenic River! Bye bye River Walk! Bye Bye River District apartments! Bye Bye Historic Americana! And just wait until invasive fish swim up river to eat the surviving native fish!! And 100 year toxic sediment ruins the water supply! Cancer anyone? Birth defects? I have seen NO economic decisions this city has ever made that have a actually produced something fruitful for the city. They had a gold mine with the preservation of the mill, mill housing, dam, and dam electric power supply (that river can produce power for the entire city!) and they throw away the very assets they have that make the city unique. I think the council under estimate the actual, natural size of the Dan River. Without the dam, it will look like a trickle running the trough the city. The bridges will look ridiculous spreading across dry land.

Sunday January 24th , yeah here I come, remember my father Sam Morrison Hodnett, I. Has alot of connections locally. This place is very very sinister, though many will view this as a way to destroy me. It is Morals and Ethics based upon Spirit. The many different belief systems that the Municipal Government ways to keep as a essential area of management, it is still simple Ethics and Morals applied to a personal standard, though said in word it has to be applied in action, copying ideas from someone can be scene , even the police department with its police officers see this, from school zones, to head of the departments. $436 dollar record in July 1991 keeps one unforgiven by the local community. Check that date in $436 criminal record, then check my riminal record back to that date July 1991, ask the rest of the police department and community leaders to answer the same question openly to get forgiveness. I am Samuel Morrison Hodnett II USAF ESS CSS Nsa-Veteran. Criminal Records checked through Federal Files. Remember I was in a major Automobile accident in 1992, had my face sliced open lost over 4.6 pints of blood . This area tortures.
