After investing in an expensive home, I would not want my formal living room immediately next to the kitchen. No! So, your important guests can see the dirty pots and pans? I know the builder wanted the dining room to have a view but if you're going to eat there usually there is conversation. Plus, there is a gorgeous view in the living room. Does anyone agree with me?

@Tena K in the past builders would build homes with a separate formal living room and an informal/keeping room that was next to kitchen. That would have solved the issue. Probably in the past 5 to 10 years builders just give you one living space which usually opens to the kitchen. Like you, I prefer those separate spaces for the reason you mentioned- I guess you and I are “old fashioned “ lol
