P.S. lol the bobbin for the 306 and the 206 are L style, however there is a way around the needle size, there is a different bobbin holder meant for embroidery, I wish I could recall the name of it but I am sure with a wee bit of digging you will find it. The issue with the needle is that especially in the zig zag mode a typical sized needle hits the holder, but switching to the other bobbin holder that problem is voided, hope this helps Dearie.

I just bought this model in this colour scheme from a senior's daughter. She and her husband are moving into a senior's residence here in Ottawa and she cannot take the machine with her due to lack of space. Tomorrow I will have it, my very first vintage Singer. I originally bought this for my little sister as she just murdered her Singer Starlet free arm by trying to sew heavy boning that may as well have been railroad tracks, and shattered the feed dog gear. That took some effort as this particular machine was built by the French in France, and unlike the Touch and Throws, these gears were made with a whole lot better materials. So...I thought I'd get her some heavy metal goodness. Unfortunately, I did not see the bobbin configuration until a prior video to this and realized she'd never be able to use it. So, the Starlet is going to be re-geared with that cruddy nylon garbage they sell now (If it lasts a year I'll be the most surprised human on earth). I'll be sure to boil my hands afterwards to get the leavings of that horrible crud off my digits. I have a Singer here already, my 9960 which is mainly for making product tags and deco stitching. It's a competent machine for it's limited quality and lifespan. I sure wouldn't sew a pair of jeans on it, though. I also have a Pfaff 2046 that was a score with a three machine pickup (I got the BEST Xmas gift with that little haul; a Kenmore 158.1931. Had to up the motor power as, unlike our American neighbors, this machine was .2 amps under-powered. Not anymore it isn't). I'm a Kenmore junkie. That's the machine that gets my motor running. Speaking of motors. Now, I've seen this model you and I own upgraded to a .9 amp motor. It is super fast. I have a huge concern about this machine, though. I have a .5 amp Kenmore machine here, a hybrid, and its OK with sewing, but it's not powerful at all. it'll sew a pair of jeans OK, but it is almost sluggish on anything thicker than a few layers of regular cotton. The 1931 I have sewed just like the Kenmore 27 hybrid. Now, my Kennie is closing in on 40 pounds, so .8 amps to it is about the equivalent as the .5 amps on that Kennie hybrid. Sooo. question, if I may. How can a 5.3 amp machine be powerful? I'm lost, cannot wrap my brain about this. Now, that upgraded to .9 amp machine I watched on video sewed REALLY fast. Your machine seems to be plenty quick too. Needle penetration on a thick pile of denim. Can it take 8 layers? Can it sew a deep and well balanced stitch while doing so? I will have my answer soon enough I guess. I will have to wait, sadly, to test it. Until I get that modified bobbin holder, I cannot use my class 15 needles, and a 12 or 14 is not capable of sewing through heavy denim. So, what's your opinion on the power plant? I'd love to know what your findings are as there isn't a "power test" for this model anywhere I've looked so far. I'm a new subscriber, and look forward to your videos as I work through that library you made. Keep sewin' Dave.

Hello Dave! Thank you for your comment. I do have a Kenmore 185 & a Kenmore 12. They sit waiting their turn. I have been restoring vintage singers for about 4 years. I am an amateur, sort of, lol! And I just started sewing this past week. Your experience and knowledge base is vast. Thank you for stopping in. Enjoy your Kennie's! 👍

I just bought the first version of the singer zigzag Singer 206 in my case it is a 206k simple zig zagger no cams, the 306 has a totally different body shape, has a slightly wider zigzag and the 306 also does a satin stich a bit better but both have a lot to offer and are like most all Singer prior to the 1970's built like precision tanks.

What a great share, mine is 306K black treadle operated, just the same otherwise, made in 1954 in Great Britain. I am from Down Under and just got mine. It’s in good order but I am getting new bobbin cases to accomodate regular needles. It was cheaper than buying the correct needles, so hopefully it works! Thanks so much for sharing your expertise!

Hello Jebb, I'm very happy to find you after a bit of a fruitless search for any 306K information. I purchased a black version fitted to a 'table like' piece of furniture from a lady in Bradford some six months ago but it's only now I have found time to start restoring it. Having removed the top cover and needle bar cover for inspection, A small black slotted screw fell out onto the table and on looking closer I saw a small thin spring steel plate lying in the bottom of the needle bar area... Its part number is 105015 but I've no idea what or where it is from as no user manuals or adjusters manual was supplied, could you provide a clue? Thanks!

@@JebbAdams Havent sewn for over twenty years making my own clothes for school back in the day. getting hold of good material back then was limited to keep up with the fashion of brand name textiles. at the moment iv'e ordered in oilskin canvas to make hiking and tent and tarp and back pack gear im hoping this machine will sew seatbelt webbing as well as i wouldn't trust a cheap plastic machine of today to handle the fibre i will be using. without the need of an industrial machine like my friend who owns a consew for leather clothing sewing. im more into canvas than leather myself. I got the machine cheap i cant complain if it wont sew the stuff i plan on making i will have to shop around maybe for a more solid machine that can do the job maybe I dont know yet it looks solid enough to handle canvas and webbing im hoping. From what i can see people favor this model for a grid down no power operation very handy indeed.

My Singer 319K does not move the needle column to zig zag, how can I fix it? I was sewing before, the needle broke and the thread got tangled under the serrated teeth and the SIINGER 319K sewing machine no longer moves the column when activating internal decorative sewing stitches.

@JebbAdams
@JebbAdams 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Somebody's grandma! Thanks for visiting the sewing machines here! I appreciate the support! So the screws are stuck. You oiled them and they still will not undo. Put the screwdriver into the slothead screw and try undoing it slowly WHILE YOU GENTLY TAP THE TOP OF THE SCREWDRIVER YOU ARE TURNING. Heat the screws with a hairdryer on high for 2 minutes each. Then using the longest screwdriver that fits, try it again. Tap the top. to do this get a face cloth or small towel and put it along the edge of the top opposite the screw. Then take a little mallet, or a length of 1x2; or even the back of a hair brush and tap it. Please let me know what works. Thanks again and all the best. Visit often, please subscribe; Thank You so much!

I had a presser foot thumb screw that was stuck solid on my 1904 Singer 27 and sewing machine oil wouldn’t help free it. I read somewhere on a VSM site that you need to use a penetrating oil (looked that up - WD40) and it worked like a charm after sitting an hour after application!

Welcome David Hoffman! Your yearly travels films are being enjoyed by myself and tens of thousands of others too! I was in Guanacaste in 2012 but not at the Riu. First things first; and this is more to remind myself of parts names! Lol! The top horizontal casting from the Handwheel to the Presser Bar Tension Screw houses the horizontal arm shaft. The horizontal plane where the cloth lies as it is sewn, is called the Bed. The vertical tube that goes from Handwheel to Bed is the Upright. There are 2 numbers on the sewing machine. The Serial Number is underneath the bed & stamped into the top of the underside. (Usually close to the corner of the bed). If you go to ismacs.net and search your machine's Serial # it will produce a date range that your machine was built in. The Model Number "306k" is on the Upright facing the person. Thanks for your inquiry! It keeps me on my toes and I am here to learn! Peace!
