What wonderful job that Dr is doing in Sierra Leone. I felt so proud of that young Cambodian boy who said he would look after his sisters. I'm going to watch this with my 11 year old grandson, so that he can see how blessed we are in Australia. I want him to see the Cambodian boy, and what little he has. So that Billy can be thankful for having a mother who had both good pre-natal care and good food that helped him to grow to the almost 10 pounds he weighed at birth. For the education he receives, which will be way above that which the child in Cambodia would receive. Sometimes we don't think how much, or forget, just how MUCH we have in the 1st world. That 27 weeker born to the 13 year old mother, may have lived if she was born in the West. That country is beautiful, if only there could be a more equal distribution of wealth. The USA needs to lower its CSection rates, which have gone up exponentially during the last 25 years. I've read some REAL SHOCKERS of what happens when unnecessary CSections occur. Hence the increase in Maternal death. Great documentary!

Has the doctor in Sierra Leone received the Nobel peace prize or something yet? He sure as hell deserves it. Not only does he work his ass off for these women, but you can tell how emotionally involved and committed he is to these patients and his work. We pay athletes and entertainers so much money. These people deserve some of those fans and support too, not just in 'likes'(although that is nice too), they deserve some kind of luxuries, even if it is just work-related equipment and help for their clinics and workers.

with stupid people. having many children is a great luxury. I grew up in a middle class neighborhood. a big family had 3 children, a huge family was 4 children. In the poorer areas, a tiny family was 5 children, the norm was 8-10 children, and 12 + children was not unusual. having more children than one can support is one of the most antisocial things a person can do.

It doesn't help to have an attitude of ignorance like Hawa in 54:58 saying she will continue to have more babies so maybe one of her children will get her out of poverty. A problem not mentioned is the lack of men in the picture for all these babies, no problem making these babies but nowhere in sight to take care of them. Statistically, a single mother is 80% likely to stay in poverty. And with 16 million teen girls getting pregnant worldwide every year, with no education and no money, poverty will continue. The only person in this documentary that made me sad was the Cambodian boy picking trash, he had to work for his mom's irresponsabilities of getting knocked-up.

Monica Parra We aren't told how she became "knocked up". Might not have been her choice.

+Dawn Deisig That's right. For all we know, it could have been her abusive ex-husband who gave her HIV and could have made her pregnant. A lot of women around the world live in situations where they have no autonomy over their lives as human beings let alone, their sexuality. Sadly, there are just too many strings holding them back from breaking out of such situations and the society's tend condone it.
@tashw79419 жыл бұрын
+Monica Parra i thought she said she will have more children because she is POOR ( 17% of the country is on contraception i doubt the poor are offered it). also out of the children she has she hopes at least one is successful , As any parent would wish. i find your words a bit harsh (not sure why) but living in absolute poverty with a husband that I'm assuming is not going to take "no honey I'm not in the mood" for a decade or more very well.

It is very ignorant of many you saying how these women should "just stop having babies" they can't take of etc. Perhaps in countries like America...I can see your point. That being said, in other third world countries, many women don't have THAT CHOICE to make and have no availability whatsoever to birth control. It's easy to judge when we sit in our nice comfortable living rooms on our laptops while ordering a pizza! Their lives are so different and so far removed from our world that we can't begin to imagine what they go through just to survive on a daily basis. And as far as the American woman goes...we shouldn't judge her either. She's obviously going through a tough time and said that all she needed was a hand up and not a handout! I hope none of you ever fall on hard times and need the help of others! Your lives may not always be picture perfect and one day it could be YOU. Remember that.

There is so much poverty in the world because among the wealthy and powerful elite there are people who want it that way. - Jim Marrs - reporter, author and commentator.

Puglous hello! Thanks for the recommendation, I just read the article and there is so much truth in it... but also looks quite impossible to make it happen since we live in a selfish society that ignores poverty. I often think about solutions, but they seem not effective enough since people will not follow me. I live in Thailand and I see unfair things everyday... I believe change is only possible through education and politics. If we educate our children in a different way and we show them the truth, there might be hope, but also Politicians need to stop being corrupt and selfish bastards. If I donate and help people in a direct way is because of my education, we can increase the number of concern and donations by letting the world know that we can actually change things. I just see it's so hard and almost impossible to do since not everyone cares... sorry about the long comment, maybe I didn't explain myself properly... and thanks for reading

+Puglous I like your ideas and passion. I recently listened to an author (sorry, his name escapes me at the moment) who was raised in Guyana tell of his experience growing up in poverty before immigrating to America. He said he loved growing up in his village, the people were very poor but there was a real sense of belonging and community. If a family was going through hard times they could always depend on the generosity of neighbours, even though they also had very little. Then, as a young man, he moved to the States and he said for the first time in his life he felt poor. When everyone around you has basically the same as everyone else one doesn't think in material terms, it's about the people not things. In contrast, while in America he saw in person, in print, on tv, all things he didn't have. He saw others make obtaining these things a real focus and priority because the people who didn't have these things were treated as less than. I think it's a powerful observation.

Graft, corruption, and failure to share wealth, certainly contributes to poverty. BUT it is NOT the real cause of poverty in the third world. The root cause of poverty in third world is HIGH BIRTH RATES, and OVERPOPULATION! This is caused by ignorance, culture, and intentional stupidity. Sharing wealth with poor people depicted in the video will only create MORE human suffering. What they really need is family planning, contraception, and sterilization. ONLY then will poverty programs produce results. That should be abundantly clear from watching this video. At about 54:50 minutes into the video we hear the African woman say, "I WILL HAVE MORE CHILDREN BECAUSE i AM SO POOR. MAYBE ONE OF MY CHILDREN WILL BE SOMEBODY GREAT, AND REDEEM ME FROM POVERTY." Having more children when you have no resources is child abuse!

The reason why there is so much poverty is because politicians run their respective Countries for the benefit of the richest - it is always the rich first and everybody else comes second. If you're unlucky enough to be one of the jobless, sick or disabled, you don't even rate as second best, you're considered to be much lower. Just trying to find a politician who cares more about the people than his rich mates is like trying to find a horse that speaks English. It is the rulers of the World who are responsible for poverty - the sooner we stick them all on a space ship and send them (and their psychopathic Big Business cronies) into Outer Space, the happier we will all be.
@carryclass10 жыл бұрын
In the United States the poor and disabled are taken care of better than anywhere else in the world. that is why the world's poor want to come here. the cause of poverty is not political. people having children they can not afford to support is the cause of poverty.
@ludwigvanbeethoven500510 жыл бұрын
***** I totally agree with you. The World's Super Elite are actually worth trillions not billions. Rothschild has an estimated personal fortune of around 700 trillion, and the Queen 33 trillion. These people could wipe out World poverty overnight if they wanted to, and they'd still have trillions left in their bank accounts. They make me sick the way they pretend to care. I wouldn't mind but most of the super rich are old to boot, and even though they're coming to the end of the road, they're still so insensitive, avaricious and greedy.
@loverrlee10 жыл бұрын
***** Greed is the root of all evil. I am not a religious person in the truest sense of the word, but I do deeply care about ALL people and think that everyone should have the bare minimum to survive. I want to make it my life's work to figure out a way to infiltrate this system of greed and start actually giving back for a change (the trick is to not let those who are the most greedy know your true intentions, because those who horde trillions of dollars might think that Gandhi the evil one). I want to use my education and talent to invent something that can improve the lives of those in these so called "third world" countries.
@ajallen967410 жыл бұрын
Good idea, but what will happen when a new class of rulers springs up? You can't get rid of people in power, because the next richest class will just step up to replace them. This is the result of every revolution in history. Here's how it works: first you have a large number of oppressed people and a few rulers. Then a revolt starts. Now, there are always leaders at the front of the revolt, watch out for them. When the ruling class is overthrown, the people who led the revolution and have the most resources become rulers. They then oppress the majority. Thus in essence, the world is the same as before.

don't really care about the American side of the stories! I mean at least they get free shit given to them just like that. the most part that touches my heart was "pisey" the 12 years old boy! 😭 so sad to see him growing up and had to go through this lifestyle 😕

I agree with you to a certain extent, but believe me, it's a lot more complicated then we think it is.

What some of us fail to recognize is that women do not have reproductive rights, including the access to birth control like we do in the U.S. & other industrialized countries.

That boy, Pisey, is the most gorgeous, generous child I've ever seen. Willing to scavenge forever to help pay for his sisters education. God bless him. And poor little Ly Ly. :'( So sad. This whole story is sad. It just shouldn't be happening in this day and age.
@katsan8811 жыл бұрын
I agree with the doctor. The problem is the lack of distribution of resources in this world. Look at the US and how is that this country with so many resources has the highest birth rate in the world? How are we proud of a country that allows this? and yet we boast to the world that we are the greatest democracy in the world? One that lets its children grow up in shelters, and not have access to a quality education.

People making "light" of this video are fucking sick ass people. Imagine if you had to live like this. Who in God's name would want to live like this? It makes me grateful that despite my father being born in Nigeria, I was born right here in America. I see now how lucky I am when I see a video like this.

Kould B I'm a fool because I think making light of poverty is disgusting? Umm... okay. =/ To be honest, I thought your reply was somewhat diplomatic until I read the last sentence. I never said anything about people breeding so I don't know where that it came from. I, myself, don't have kids and I believe that if you can't take care of yourself you shouldn't have kids either. However, that's not what I was even talking about in my comment so I don't know what specifically you think you're replying to.
@cinyaca10 жыл бұрын
Kould B Again, I disagree with you. There are people who encourage poverty because there are people who heavily profit from the suffering of others. And like I said before... those who make light of poverty are Sick Ass People.

***** It's okay. To "make light" of something means to view it as something that's a joke or not to be taken seriously.

"If I lived in one of those really impoverished countries I would try to find a way to get sterilized" Yeah, RIGHT!! A tubal ligation is $5,000. I bet living in an impoverished area you would have $5,000 cash for an elective surgery. Give me a break.

And for those who say being able to have children is not a right its a luxury, it is not a luxury it is a blessing. God/ mother nature has decided that some poor person somewhere else in the world or in your neighborhood who make a more caring & loving parent than you and would bring up a more well rounded child than you ever could and probably out of that person lineage someone or something great will happen.

Food is wasted by the tons, just to have the prices kept at a certain level. Ships filled with wheat are floating on the Mideterranean, and only 'released' by Wall Street, when wheat prices are sufficient enough to do so. Mass production makes everything so plentiful, that the problem of shortage of supply is compensated by shortage of money.

As an American, living in the richest country on earth, it breaks my heart to know that convicted prisoners live better than the homeless, and poorest in our country. It is a travesty that prisoners are housed, fed and protected, at tax payers expense, while the poor, and homeless are neglected, scorned, blamed, and ignored. Why is it okay in America, for children to be born homeless, be hungry, and die in America?
@TheICEgirl61007 жыл бұрын

BH unfortunately birth control is not free and not most of the time these births occurs because the rights of women in these countries are low. They must fulfill the wishes of men or suffer their wrath. We need to educate women to help them realize they have rights and support the women through the education til the end. It is proven when you educate a women the birth rate lowers, child poverty decreases and so does crime.
@magnificent66687 жыл бұрын
You said it ---the males in these countries control what little money there is, and only value placed on women is being breeding machines for men.

When I read about celebrity babies getting gold rocking horses as gifts and I think life is truly an wonderland for children but when we see such circumstances where boys like Pisey are being adult at such a tender age ... Mothers dying , babies being guest for a few minutes then I really think what kind of world we live in?? Why such a huge gap is there ? Why can't we share a little and make this world a better place for every baby that born irrespective of class creed and community . Is it so hard??????

@zararatcliff51138 жыл бұрын
Yes. Unless one generation breaks the cycle. But if you keep having many babies, it is hard to break the cycle. When you have less babies, you can direct all your resource to him/her to be a better person. When he /she becomes successful, the cycle is broken..
