Are we sure these are just color pairs and not color triads? I see alot of 3 color dominant cards in each of the pictures show. If Chandra is racing for Nissa why would her "boros" team not have a splash of green. Similarly with the duskmorn team, including winter and loot two characters that have historically always had green. I could site other examples like the Grull team being led by a rakdos planeswalker. The suspension of disbelief i have to have, to believe pirate team from ixilan will not including any black pirates. I could make this corelation with all the teams. Plus it would be more interesting to have a set with 10 triads, even if its dominant in the pairs with only a splash of the third color.

Not a full-blown slur, just VERY derogatory. Its Hindustani (the root language for a lot of north indian languages) for "black". the "desh" in kaladesh is also a Hindustani word for "place" or "home of-" so its kind of calling the plane "the black people plane" which is..... unfortunate. Avishkar does, however. do the plane justice. it means "to invent" which is just perfect. There was definitely a native speaker on the team which makes me just soo happy. PS: If Amazonian reads this : your videos are amazing and your puns are perfect and i love them thank you.

This looks more like a phonetic issue than anything. They clearly show, in their example, that the stressing of the vowel is different. They are 2 different words that sound different. I would be willing to bet that they are even written differently in Hindi and that they appear more like heteronyms in the english transcriptions only. Making issues out of nothing.

I stopped caring about the story after the phyrexians were defeated in on every plane they attacked in one set after being built up for so long. They didnt even have the courage to have their characters be missing limbs or have scars or just die from the cybernetics being removed.

Yup, I thought the mishandling of the Bolas arc would be the lowest, but it was just the beginning of the descent. The buildup for the phyrexians was actually pretty good (and you could tell things were being planned even before the Bolas arc, so that's why) and then they fumbled everything in lieu of pushing the Omenpaths. And now that 50% of all magic will be UB we, vorthos, will be eating shit like the silly detective, cowboy or race themed sets with characters forced into scenarios they wouldn't be just for "the looks".

I'm sure it's going to be fun mechanically, and the way Miguel talked about it on the worldbuilding stream made me a bit more hopeful than I was, but I really wish they would've at least spaced out these funny hat sets a bit more. Having all of them in a row got so tiring very quickly. I can't wait for Tarkir and Lorwyn. I'm cautiously optimistic about the space set too, not exactly my favourite theme but at least it seems to me like it might not be just another gimmicky costume party set.

Two days ago, I was watching a video on Tolarian Community College as many of us do. It was about why Karlov failed vs. Thunder Junction A few minutes in, our beloved Professor says "Thunder Junction is our newest set" and I felt so instantly tired and drained. We just had Foundations. Pioneer is already in my face on login. Now we're already talking about Aetherdrift. It's getting more and more difficult to just say "I'll chose 1 or 2 sets to be hype for" when we're rushing through everything. I still think about how I was eager for the Eldraine revisit and it went by so quickly before there was MOM spoilers I didn't even notice it came and went. Maybe we'll see Jace in a dragster and Loot's riding a tandem bike with Tinybones.

Second, part of why I was so upset about Universes Beyond getting put into Standard was that I love Magic lore and felt like keeping the format separate kept the IP as something unique and important. IDK I quite like the worldbuilding, this seems like another Duskmourn Mixed bag, but more good than bad I think it looks great honestly, love how each of the teams are so visually distinct and from different planes for different reasons One of my personal favorite parts is how much everything clashes with eachother. They're all so extremely visually distinct and so wildly different from eachother, it makes it feel more like a proper multiverse with different universes I was always an Aetherdrift defending (more in the sense of "hold your goddamn horses mate") but this set actually looks like it's going to be great to me

Honestly, I think aetherdrift is fun and cool, and a cool use of this setting. HOWEVER what feels missing is what makes it feel like racing. Maybe sagas and battles to just really push? Lorcana can get away with checkpoints/finish lines in new set because adventure and collecting is core to the game, being a literal victory point race So I hope here there will be ways to really give that head to head race feel

My guess is the aetherspark is Teferi's spark captured by Saheeli's temporal anchor after Urza's sylex blast. That loose end always bothered me. If this set nets a 1 drop dwarf suitable in a Depala deck, I'll be happy, but I'd had hopes for more with a return to this plane

Honestly the world building video made me somewhat interested in this set. The aesthetic isn't for me but the ideas behind it actually seem interesting. Especially since Avishkar is trying to do the same thing that Niv is trying to do for Ravnica which means there's likely to be conflict in the future between these two attempts at being 'the hub of the planes'.

Designing a set from a starting aestethic is not inherently bad, the problem is that they don't take it seriously enough. To me a set designed from the concept of a multiplanar cannonball run sounds rad, but when they explicitly say that their inspirations are: wacky races, fast e furious and speed racer then you obtain something a bit shallow and frankly childish like for example an entire race of bug people that has no reason to really partecipate in this run except for "this is what we do, our ultimate goal is to become cars". This is also a problem that other teams have, no real stake in the race and that hinders the seriousness of the setting of a set that was announced as a "death race".

Not a car/racing person whatsoever, so the premise and flavor of this set is already a turnoff. I was hoping for more with a return to Avishkar, not something that feels adjacent to the most recent Un-set. Hopefully the mechanics will be fun and interesting, and hopefully Saheeli gets a sweet new card. I vastly preferred the block structure in the past, but I do understand why they moved away from it. Aesthetics are cool, but I'd prefer some more substance to go with the style. The past few sets have definitely felt like trope after trope or just nailing a specific aesthetic down. Hopefully the previews and full release will prove me wrong.

I for one actually kind of like the omenpaths and how the different planes are now interacting with each other. Id love to see some intra-planar politics, intrigue, and conflict play out. An idea I had was that with many of the theros gods dead from the phrexian invasion, there could be new theros gods that shift the plane from ancient-Greece-themed & becoming Roman-empire-themed. Then they could have a conquest war against the "barbarians" of kaladesh & have a Cleopatra parody in amonkhet, maybe a Carthage plane/faction......

5:40 Disagree. I think the Omen Paths are a good thing. Magic needs to have some favorite characters like Pokemon that people can feel a connection to and play with in new sets (which means different planes). It's smart for WotC to do this. They don't always do this well or make the best characters, but I think it is good for the health of the game overall. I think it would be really weird for people in a fantasy universe to be stuck on one plane. Like really? No magic portals that can transport beings to other planes or dimensions? Even old school DnD had the concept of plane travel before MTG was even a thing.

You know I feel like this would have been a great set for immediately after the Phyrexian Invasion Plotline. Hear me out. Let’s live in a fantasy world where AWBO didn’t suck and actually had real narrative weight. Dropping a fun, wacky, irreverent set to lighten the mood of the lore after such a severe plotline could have been a breath of fresh air. The idea of Avishkar wanting to become a big hub plane is actually a cool idea and could lead to some really compelling narratives about inter-planar politics and stuff. It could have been a great jumping off point to explore the actual ramifications of the omenpaths. But here we are in reality and this set just seems…lame. IDK. I wish we had three sets of Bloomburrow.

On one hand, I get that racers in a race have to have a team name that's usually related to the sport, but it really feels like too much was named after it - while calling very fast creatures "Quickbeasts" seems appropriate for a civilization that grows up alongside them, why did WotC call the plane "Alacria" if it's meant to be an actual setting that the characters might go to and not just "a source of fast things for our racing set". I guess I'll read the story to see how Amonkhet gods are doing (and for Nissa/Chandra, i do like them). The Rakdos plane being all about oil just screams phyrexia a la mirrodin but tbh I didnt follow MoM and idk whats going on there?

i think bloomburrow worked because there was one familiar character in the entire set, the rest was fullly new, in its own little world, and it took itself seriously. There are joke cards like carrot cake but they feel, idk, justified by the context, a twee little story wouild have some goofy bits to distract from the drama. now it just feels like constant goofballl bs, up untill magic stops being magic and starts being marvel, this might be the last year of magic, the future may just be funko: the gathering
