NOT HOLISTIC BUT practical: Sevin dust in very tiny amounts in the coop, bedding, or medicated dust baths works for me. Cheap, easy to purchase at a local store and I don’t put it outside the coop so it’s not affecting the bees 🙏 🐝 . Not organic, but for like $7 it was the only solution that was possible for me. Also when I spray the birds at night I use a spray bottle of water and like Dawn dish soap and kills mites and lice immediately, but if it is cool outside or you get the birds more than 50% wet or if they are young you will need to dry them so they don’t get sick (I.e. a hair dryer or heat lamp).

Im glad you use this product cause its what i decided against mites for some time.(only thing i think works) The only thing ive had issues was that the Elector ends up going to a solid state after some time in the bottle. I asked my vet about it and he said it was still ok and should be fine to use. I used it and seems to still work. so storing this correctly is important. Also i recommend the second treatment even though its a great product. Thank you for your help Prez of Chickenlandia!

We just found out birds have lice we have 50 chickens and 22 guineas, multiple coops but they all free range our 3.5 acres most days. Will this keep them from getting them right back? Also when cleaning coop do I need to throw away all the bedding. We did the deep litter method. Our biggest concern is killing our bees but we have straw everywhere.

Captain Jack's dead bug brew is the same active ingredient as Elector PSP. The ratio to mix it up is different though because it's not as concentrated as Elector. It's much cheaper to get your hands on treating the birds right away.

There seem to be a few vendors who are selling smaller quantities of the Elector PSP online- like 10 ml or so for $20-25. This may be a good option for folks if they cannot afford the whole container which seems to start at about $155. Thank you for trying this stuff out- I have been working on the situation with all the best affordable remedies that I could find, and yet it is an annual thing. Good point about how there's less opportunity for dust bathing in wet weather. My hens have not been bathing in their sand with DE mixed in because the run is wet. I had to treat my hens for bugs this week. I use a pyrethrin spray and applied it when they were sleeping. You are right, it is so easy to treat them when it's dark out.

Hi y'all. I live in S.E. Tennessee bordering the Georgia Line. I have 2 hoop coops attached with a mini "medic room" in between. Built on 2' of mulch with wire attached on bottom of coop (*predator proof from digging under coop*) and 3' of mulch on top. We built them ourselves. One is for my 11 hens, the other end is for my 7 roosters. (Don't know why people kill roosters). My boys are precious and follow me everywhere. They have attacked predators as there are large numbers of hawks where I live as well as feral cats, racoon and opossums. Most importantly, I decided to keep my boys to breed. We're about to get a cold snap tonight. Never had the temperature go down below 50° this time of year but we're hitting 30° tonight. With my 11month old babies being in a 44' hoop coop I have to find some way to keep them warm during these next few days till our shed coop is completed. I went and purchased 4 clear shower curtains and I will be installing them today at the end of the roost in the girl's coop as their coop butts up with my mini "medic room" and the back of the boys coop where the boys roost. In doing this it will section off the roosting area of both coops so that they can hold heat in during these cold nights. Heavy duty tarps have covered the tops of the coops for rain and sun protection. LUV YOUR VIDEOS🥚🐓🤠 HAVE LEARNED ALOT FROM YOU!! Elector PSP is EGGCELLENT!! I am HEAD MOMMA HEN of "JOURNEYS END" lol

I just love your videos! I've had just one infestation of mites in my flock of four Black Australorps, and after a lot of research, I chose Elector PSP from Valley Vet online. They were about $20 less in price than the other outlets I found, and I really appreciated that, since it is SO expensive. But I felt good about my purchase. It worked, only one application to the hens and their coop and we were done with mites. And I have enough Elector PSP on hand probably for the rest of the hen's life and beyond, so I won't have to worry about purchasing anything in the future. : )

I have red mites which I had 3 years ago. Still have PSP left over, stored inside, didn’t work. It killed a lot of them but they’re still crawling around. I pulled all the perches out, sprayed, checked an hour later, sprayed again. It’s been two weeks and they’re still alive on the perches I have on the opposite side of the property away from the coop!!! Sprayed the whole coop, treated chickens with Ivermectin cause red mites don’t live on the chickens. Double stick tape at the end of the new perch and I’m still finding them in the tape. Spent 2 days pressure washing, caulking all the tiny crevices and painting the coop 8x8, I’m sure I still have them.

I found someone on Etsy that portioned them out in one gallon doses and sells them for a reasonable price, which saved me. There is no way I could afford the price of a whole bottle right now but I really needed it so I ordered it from her the second I found it. She shipped it the next day and I just got it today so my son and I will be spraying the ladies down tomorrow evening. It drives me nuts that there are not very many health products out there for small flocks, especially considering how popular hobby farms and homesteading is now. Most of what I have had to use are for cattle and trying to reduce the dose from that of a cow to a chicken is really really confusing!

The worst parasite problem we have ever had was the summer that we had FLEAS. That was such a terrible time. Between 7dust and D-earth finally got rid of them. I agree with you on treating 3 times at different intervals. According to various reputable sources, wait 10 days, then 7 days, then 5-4 days. When you stager supposedly you will be killing any eggs (parasites) that have hatched, the larval stage. That winter had the WHOLE YARD treaded. Have never had that problem since. Every so often we do treat with ALL natural as a preventive.

I’ve done some research on Elector PSP… it seems that there are other products containing the same active ingredient as Elector PSP (Spinosad) that are much more affordable (and MUCH LESS concentrated). I haven’t tried any of them, so I can’t actually recommend them, but I don’t see why they wouldn’t be just as safe and effective as Elector PSP when diluted to achieve the same concentration of active ingredient. Care should be taken to dilute the alternate product to the correct effective working solution.

Thankyou. I've never heard of this product in Australia before but I will explore where to find it. 🌿 I'm wondering if you've tried using ivermectin "pour-on" on your chickens? (Just a few drops on each chicken) And also NEEM OILspray for the coup? (Or on chicken) 🌿🙏🌿🌟 plus, if you grow your own wormwood, mugwort, lavender, lemon balm - these are all great to shop and dry to make your own special blend of bedding herbs 🌿🙏🌿

Will the Elector spray work to kill Southern mites as well? We heard that different mites need different treatment. Is that true?

I’ve been using neem oil, spinosad, and pyrethrums in and around my coops for years. All are used for organic gardening. Why are they charging so much for the active ingredient spinosad A and D?

Sevin dust works great in small amounts like mixed in bedding or nesting materials or in medicated dust bath all in addition to DE.

So I already know everything has to be removed and treated for early stages of mites. What about their dust bath do I need to scrap it and start over?

I wish we could get this in Canada. It’s hell trying to find anything to help rid them of internal and external parasites. A lot of the stuff I do try may help to reduce numbers but it never eliminates it and I’m back a month or 2 later trying to rid them again 😔

I have two hatchlings about a month old now. I think one’s a cockling. How can I integrate my babies into the flock. Especially if the one is a cockerel. I have a polish cockerel-his dad. But he’s not privy to the babies rob because he’s soo young. 8 months. They are with their mamas. One each, they share.

HELP PLEASE. I have three hens and I had to go away for work trip to San Diego my brother watched them they were fine everything was fine when I came back and this was in the middle of September when I came back I haven’t got the most consistent eggs from one of my chickens and now I haven’t had an egg from her I think in about nine days there doesn’t seem to be any issue my other hens are laying fine I’ve looked her over she’s eating acting normal I’ve heard in Florida that chickens don’t slow down or stop laying eggs because of the shorter days but could that be what’s causing it? Do different breeds actually have more effect from the shorter days over other breeds? I will add that she is my most inconsistent layer to begin with I usually get less production from her than the other hens

I am giving this a try on my sweet rooster and six hens. Note to others giving it a try: wear clothing you can get greasy because they'll shake their little legs after their dunk and get it all over you, even at roosting time. I found an empty oxyclean bucket for the oil, and it was the perfect size & depth. However, their roost area is now covered in grease and unfortunately attracting flies due to the added moisture & oil content; the crazy high heat & hoUmidity we're having in May (TX) isn't helping with the slight smell of it either. What to do about that oily roost area? I've scattered StallDry on the roosts to help soak it up. Always something to keep us busy in the coop, isn't there? Thanks for any further tips you might have Dahlia, I enjoy your posts!

Did you find anything to help? I’ve spent so much money and it only helps reduce the numbers for a short while but I can’t get find anything that actually gets rid of them. I bought a canister of actual lice killer before they banned it and it’s all gone 😢.

I've used elector psp twice for the mites and red mites but they just won't go away. Any other suggestions?I live in Southern California. I don't think I have foul ticks. They are not big like in the other videos I've seen of them. I would appreciate any help. Thanks!🖖💖🐓

We’re you able to get rid of them? Electro PSP didn’t work for me either, cleaned and sprayed the coop 2x 3 years ago then did kerosine the 3rd time. Now I have them again. Elector PSP didn’t work again, did double stick carpet tape on both ends of the perch and I’m still catching red mites, I have an 8x8 coop, just pressure washed the whole coop, caulked all the cracks, painted the coop as well. (Today) I’m sure I still have some. Put the roosts on the other side of the property and 2 weeks later they’re just hanging out on it.

@Frogandtoadtime yes! Orange Guard worked! We didn't have a single one again until the hottest part of summer hit, so I'm going to have to spray again. But it actually worked!🥳🥳

@Frogandtoadtime I forgot to mention. Only use this on the coop. It's not safe for use on chickens. Stick to elector psp for that.

By thorough cleaning of a coupe use bleach or Pine-Sol and then treat with the PSP? I'm going to be treating Birds by myself I wish I had help but such as life you don't always get it. I plan on spraying the PSP everywhere in the coop every surface. As far as dust baths go, is it safe to put a dust bath in the coop their Chicken Run is not covered and there's summertime dust bath is a wet and muddy muck pit right now as a result my chickens got lice they have bare bottoms
